Flipz Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 By the way, are you still working on the Ji Pei quest? Who, me? I have some ideas, right now I'm working on a concept that sets a few things up, though your idea lets me twist that around substantially to make it significantly more Heroica-esque. My main problem is set-building, I've lost my 48x48 gray baseplates, which is a major impediment to building...well, anything, really. (That's what I get for setting the majority of the Quest indoors, I guess. ) Quote
Capt.JohnPaul Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 Current Sign-Ups for Quest #46: Product Testing Althior Emorith (K-Nut) .. I'm almost there! Quote
TheBoyWonder Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 I'm almost there! Beat ya! I'm crazy, spending 170 gold on a weapon I can't use yet. Might become Sorceror for a bit. Quote

(That's what I get for setting the majority of the Quest indoors, I guess. ) I've built pretty much every set in my three quests on a 16x32 baseplate, and the overhang never really gets bigger than 32x32. You don't need a lot of space; it's the camera angle that matters. Quote

All of my gray plates have ugly road lines on them, except for my moon-surface plates (which wouldn't really work, either...). I may have a 16x32 from my old Studios set, I'd have to dig it out, though. Quote

Zepher Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 The angle of the shot can work wonders. That is the main thing I've learned while photographing quests. You can cheat everything and anything. Quote
Endgame Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 What is Dharkan doing in the hall? 31 hasn't ended yet... Quote

You can cheat everything and anything. I totally agree, building for quests is much different than regular MOC'ing in that you're building for the camera shot, it makes you look at pieces in a whole new light. For instance when a polar bear's head was included in a tavern, it looks amazing in the photo of the interior, but if you were to photo the rest of the MOC it would look rather strange. Quote
Endgame Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 (edited) I even cheat when using LDD. The Commerz Bank doesn't have a back. And because I stink at keeping things under wraps for extended periods of time, I guess you can have the obligatory teaser for 46! Edited August 16, 2012 by Endgame Quote
Waterbrick Down Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 (edited) Has/Does anyone utilize POVRAY for their quests, the examples on the front page look amazing and though I enjoy physically building my sets, the unlimitted number of pieces when going digital is rather tempting. Ok, I guess 31 is over, so I'll come back and sign up for 46. Then Benji/Flare should too. It will be all 4 of us again, except you're hosting. Quote

I've taken a few test renders with some of the stuff I intend to use in Quests. They turn out awesome. You can even apply decals to bricks over the default LDD textures, so you're hardly limited in minifigure design. Quote

Endgame Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 Wait, I saw you posting in the QM lounge... how did you... reply here so fast? It's called "tabs", young one. I was going to use POVray, but I'm currently running a 2004 rig here. It takes 24 hours to render a Progg on the lowest settings. Quote

You DARE laugh at my poor-computer-specs plight?! Nah, just kidding. Thanks for the offer, but there are some special circumstances that prevent the quest from being POVray'ed effectively. Quote
