Endgame Posted August 18, 2012 Posted August 18, 2012 Xander signed up for #46 (along with #40 and #44). Ah, I didn't catch that! Quote
Waterbrick Down Posted August 18, 2012 Posted August 18, 2012 I'm fine with players being tanks and defensive based (I for one am against the minimum 1 damage rule for the time being) but there is a difference between a tank player and an invincable player. Knights should be able to soak up more damage than other classes but they shouldn't be able to take zero damage in the majority of circumstances. Perhaps knights can only use shields with SP 3/4's of their level rounded up? It would be nice to find a happy medium where knights are neither useless nor invincable. Quote

If people (me and BD) spend 500+ gold on our defenses, we deserve to be protected. It's not like we got some cheap overpowered item, we worked for it and used our gold. Quote
The_Customizer Posted August 18, 2012 Posted August 18, 2012 OR, you could just rely on clerics and druids, and whatever else comes from clerics, to take care of healing the knights. Because when you think about it, if you can upgrade your shield armor, and other armor, pretty soon, the clerics won't have anything to do but fight. Quote

I am not saying you do not deserve your reward, I am saying that if there is balance needed then it should be implemented. Having invincible players is not balanced, it is not a complaint against you but against the system. Again I would like to find the middle ground. Quote

How about your SP cannot be more than your level? It's like the 3/4, but I think level makes more sense. Quote
JimBee Posted August 18, 2012 Posted August 18, 2012 Like I said before: Here's a proposition: to limit how much a shield-bearing class can upgrade. This would not affect anyone with a shield currently, but for the future. For example, Knights levels 1-5 can have a max SP of 4, 6-10 can have a max of 6, 11-15 max of 8, 16-20 max of 10, 21-25 max of 15, and so on, limiting the SP of a shield as necessary when players actually get that strong. This would only be for actual shield upgrades, and not include any artifacts (or maybe it should who knows). I think this is a good solution because as is, the problem is that shield classes are only powerful in comparison to other classes. Docken can outlast anyone, and win a battle even if it means his whole team is knocked out. This calls for stronger enemies, which can more easily defeat his teammates while still leaving him with a relatively good defense. However, as time goes on heroes will be more powerful and the difference in strengths will be less. Besides, it would cost 1600 gold to upgrade the Mythril Shield just once. Quote
Waterbrick Down Posted August 18, 2012 Posted August 18, 2012 Like I said before: Sorry JimB, I was just trying to make it simpler by giving a single number multiplier. Quote
Flipz Posted August 18, 2012 Posted August 18, 2012 (edited) Phew! That was a LOT of work, but it was TOTALLY worth it. For those interested, here's an unused pic of the Sorcerer's Cove, along with a pic that better shows its construction. Believe it or not, everything in that training sequence (aside from the minifigs, the gray window arch, and the room accessories) was built from pieces of 7413 Passage of Jun-Chi and 3315 Olivia's House! EDIT: Jeb, was Jules' appearance in the Hall a chance for a Hero there to Track her Down or something? Edited August 18, 2012 by Flipz Quote
Sandy Posted August 18, 2012 Author Posted August 18, 2012 Alright, since the debate is still going on, let's put it to a vote. All in favor of the "At Least One Damage"-rule, say YAY. All against it say NAY. You have exactly 24 hours to vote. In the extreme case of a tie, my vote will decide. Quote
Zepher Posted August 18, 2012 Posted August 18, 2012 (edited) Yay. PS - Still a fan of everyone who plays this game, and sorry that a rule I made up on the fly when trying to balance a battle caused so much contention. Edited August 18, 2012 by Zepher Quote
Zepher Posted August 18, 2012 Posted August 18, 2012 I urge everyone to read my argument for this new rule about a page back before voting. As I have a bit of experience as a QM and know what balancing battles is like, I feel those who have not had that experience might benefit from reading it. Quote

JimBee Posted August 18, 2012 Posted August 18, 2012 Let the lobbying begin... 50 gold for every player with a "yay", from Hybros' stash. Quote
CMP Posted August 18, 2012 Posted August 18, 2012 You might've missed it in the mass of posts from the heroes returning from Dastan, Quarryman, but Atramor offered a Scroll of Sealing and 50 gold for the Topaz. Quote
Peppermint_M Posted August 18, 2012 Posted August 18, 2012 NAY In five minutes I came up with about 6, within the rules and realms of possibility, types of enemy that render shields and SP moot that would be no problem to implement in quests. See, first it's shields then it'll be elemental advantage and who knows what next... Quote
