posades Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 Anyone want a hunter in their unlimited quest party? Quote
CMP Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 Hi, players of Heroica! I joined Eurobricks only about a week ago, but I'm already bored beyond belief But I've been reading over most things in this Heroica game, and it looks pretty interesting, so I want to join. Do I just post a picture and summary of my character here, or in the hall, or both? Thank you. You post your character (and backstory stuff if you want) in the hall, and your stats in the Heroica Statistics topic pinned to the top of this forum. Quote
Zepher Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 I also advise that you read over a few quests first. 6 and 41 are good examples, and short, and involve very interesting players. The game is easy to learn if you put in the time to learn it. You really HAVE TO read the opening post of this topic entirely, there is really no two-ways around it. Quote
Roast Penguin Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 Good point, I should really 'read before I sign', so to speak. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 Anyone want a hunter in their unlimited quest party? Let's see, you're of a lower Level, and you don't have much Defense, so you could help force the enemies to be of a lower Level in order to be balanced, which works in favor of my Defense, so... sure, I'll take you! Brickdoctor Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 Best backhanded compliment I've ever received. Docken might be all polite and respectful, but Brickdoctor cares only about making sure his character's as powerful as possible. But seriously, I'd love to quest with you. Quote
Flipz Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 Scuba's been watching the Pirates of the Caribbean movies recently, hasn't he? Quote
Chromeknight Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 So, this issue came up in passing before as we were talking about clerics and fulfilling their job role to heal (as opposed to the rogue's job of raking in cash). Pheonix Essences and weaker party members... Now that there is a wide spread of hero levels in the hall, this is going to come up more often as we see parties of different levels., It'd be interesting to hear people's thoughts. Take a look at quest 44. The high end heroes are dealing damage in the triple figures, lower end ones a mere single digit. When a low level player gets knocked out, does it make sense to spend 50g (and an action) on reviving them if, to be blunt, they make no difference to the battle. The only reason I see is so that they gain a level and are therefore, next battle, slightly less ineffective. Is that alone worth the cost? Even someone like Harkenshire, who makes a solid, if unremarkable, contribution, pales in comparison to Guts' and Benji's slicing and dicing. his being KO'd doesn't jeapodize the battle. Should William compensate his reviver? Should he be just left down? or should someone else wear the cost of getting him back up? Quote
Palathadric Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 (edited) In my opinion, it's entirely up to the owner of the Phoenix Essence. If the player revived has a phoenix essence in their inventory, they should probably consider giving it to their reviver as payment. A lot of the lower level heroes, obviously, do not have money for Phoenix Essences. Therefore, you could give it to them on condition that they pay back, if they are willing to do this, or you just give it to them in all good charity. In Quest #44, there is absolutely no need to give the Phoenix Essences out to the players currently KOed (besides possibly William), because it's not like their getting one more level of experience would greatly benefit anyone, so it would more just be charity I guess. Ultimately, it's up to you, obviously, and I don't think you should feel bad about keeping it for a time that really matters. I would just add that I don't think it's in any way the responsibility of Clerics to provide their team with Phoenix Essences, every man can buy them at the market if he/she so chooses. I was actually thinking that at the beginning of the quest a hero with Phoenix Essences can hand them to other heroes to be used solely for the hero who paid for the Phoenix Essence, or if he gives permission. You could always discuss a "handling" fee. Edited September 11, 2012 by Palathadric Quote
Zepher Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 (edited) One of the proudest moments of Dastan, for me, was when the heroes rallied once the battle seemed to be won and went to go revive their fellow heroes so that they could all share in the EXP. gain. It was a beautiful player moment, AND a beautiful testimony to Heroica in the world of Heroica. The Hall truly leaves no one behind, no matter how much they fight with each other. Likewise, I actually DON'T think Clerics should be responsible for the Essences, but rather the other party members should. Clerics have to buy tonics to keep their party healed. They spend money and turns on others already, so other classes should bring Phoenix Essences... especially ones with high SP, as they are less likely to go down. It was a great moment. Nerwen has always struck me as being that kind of character who would give to the little guy even though it didn't really benefit anyone. Normally, before a quest, I check the inventory, whether this is good or bad I don't know, of the party I will be travelling with. For example, before Quest #36, no one bought Phoenix Essences, so I stocked up on a couple of those. Before Quest #42, however, I already had one and I figured that Erdy was a druid, so Phoenix Essences wouldn't be a huge need, so I instead just got some more Grand Tonics and the like. Quote

JimBee Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Gee one of those sailors in Quest 44 looks awfully familiar. It's a wonder how Ellaria and Atramor didn't recognize him yet! Quote

I pointed it out, I recognized him. In the back of my head I couldn't help thinking it was too big of a coincidence, and with the captain and 2 crewmen being former prisoners we didn't help break loose, and causing one of the other crewmembers to be stranded on an island for a few days, not to mention lacking his ship now, I thought they were all out for vengeance. Zepher Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 (edited) OoC: I've been doing whatever row you're in when your second action is conducted is the row you take damage from for the free hit. I recall being told hastened heroes don't take two free hits (in one round worth of free hits dealt) but that recollection is fuzzy and I could just be doing it wrong. I figure your PC is moving faster, not the enemy. Hastened heroes take two free hits. This is why they are listed twice in the battle order. If they want to only take one free hit, they can be listed at different places in the battle order. Edited September 12, 2012 by Zepher Quote

Brickdoctor Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Roast Penguin, your stats match those of a Level 1 Cleric, but they list you as part of a nonexistent 'Gypsy' class. You have to use the name of your class; you can't change it. Quote

Oh, it's the captain from The Storm! What a nice crossover. I had to look it up, though, that face has been used so many times by different NPCs that I did not connect the dots. No wonder I'm controlling him in battle. Quote
Flipz Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 And I will say it again: Scubacarrot's clearly watched Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End semi-recently. That or he just really likes weaving twenty different plot threads together the way Doc and Zepher do. But seriously, do Jacob and Christian remind no one of ?Also, Zeph, Tensi's Counter is not a magical effect, so why hasn't the angel been taking damage from it? Quote
CMP Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 But seriously, do Jacob and Christian remind no one of ? Explains why Atramor hates them so much. Quote
Scubacarrot Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 I've been thinking for a bit about this, and I feel the Raider is severely underpowered since the nerf, here is some numbers: Let's say a level 20 player with a WP: 15 melee weapon. Let's say he rolls 1 of each 6 rolls in a 6 round battle, no consumables, no free hits, 1 enemy, let's say level 20 as well. The first result is raider, the second Assassin. SHIELD: 35 Damage done. 20 Gold Stolen - 20 gold stolen, 1/6 chance of instakill. Critical Hit: 65 Damage done. - 50 Damage done, 1/6 chance of instakill Hit: 35 Damage done. - 35 Damage done, 1/6 chance of instakill Miss: 20 Gold Stolen - 15 Damage done, 1/6 chance of instakill Damage: 20 Damage taken - 20 Damage taken Special Damage: Special inflicted. - Special inflicted Total: 135 Damage done, 40 Gold Stolen, 20 Damage taken, plus Special Taken - 100 Damage done, 20 gold stolen, 4x 1/6 chance of instakill, 20 damage Taken, plus special taken. If you take into account the Assassin can wield non retrievable Ranged weapons, you can half the damage taken. Say there were four enemies of level 20, same rolls, still no free hits, the numbers would be in total: Raider: 240 Damage done, 100 gold stolen, 20 Damage taken, plus Special taken - Assassin: 100 Damage done, 80 gold stolen, 7 x 1/6 chance of instakill, 20 Damage taken (perhaps less if Ranged Weapon), Special taken (but perhaps from back row). The reason I am tallying this because I was wondering if it was worth sticking with Raider. The results are less bad than i initially figured from the top of my head, but my point remains, where Raider was at first the prime Gold getter, you see that their ability to get gold is not that much better than let's say Assassin anymore. Sure, 800 gold from a single attack is out of proportion, but the only trick Raiders really have got left since the nerf is their higher than MOST, damage, Although you can see classes like Black Knight and Sorcerer (I'm just talking from a base rogue perspective) Do comparable or even more damage, with more defense as well. My point is: Since the nerf, Raiders have lost their... Trick, Assassins have their instakill, Witches have their poison, mirror and hex, Sorcerers have their stun, confuse and mirror damage, Black Knights have their roll, mortal hit, Shield. You see Raiders don't do anything unique and especially well anymore. I am wondering if Raider has not become boring, and also if it's worth sticking to it from a strict game play perspective? Quote
