Scubacarrot Posted September 16, 2012 Posted September 16, 2012 I think someone (John Paul?) dropped an artifact that gave you an extra artifact slot. (or gave you two, but it took up one; final effect being that you had three slots) I remember there was discussion of whether it would be allowed to remain in the game; I don't remember what happened to it. I'm not sure, but I think it's still in the game. Quote
Sandy Posted September 16, 2012 Author Posted September 16, 2012 Question: do we think there will ever be a way to wear/use additional artifacts? Aka, Sandy, will there ever be a way to fanagle that rule, or are we all permanently stuck with just two artifacts? I think hopping up to three at some point in the leveling up process would be nice, especially as the artifacts keep multiplying (and I keep wanting more and more ). I'm actually contemplating on allowing players to have "full equipment" (ie. allowing them to equip one artefact from each six subcategories), but I don't know how that will affect the balance of this game. Any opinions? Quote
Zepher Posted September 16, 2012 Posted September 16, 2012 (edited) I know. I have many more than three artifacts that I would like! I'm just wondering if I'll ever be able to advance past two. The "no more than one type" will permanently limit us to six no matter what, and will prevent too many. I'm not even making an argument either way, I'm just raising the question. EDIT: I think SIX would be a little much. That would create super-powered heroes, especially this early in the game. I vote that at significant levels where new classes aren't unlocked (let's say 20, 35, 40, 60 for example) adding an extra artifact slot wouldn't be a bad idea. Then the advancement table would look like this. Level 1 - Base Class/2 Artifacts Level 15 - Advanced Classes Level 20 - New Artifact Slot Level 30 - Expert Classes Level 35 - New Artifact Slot Level 40 - New Artifact Slot Level 50 - Master Classes Level 60 - New Artifact Slot It would give the players more to look forward to, particularly once leveling up starts to take more and more time. And now... the backlash. Edited September 16, 2012 by Zepher Quote

Upcoming item idea: Belt of Misfortune: Legwear, player is permanently jinxed, but may equip up to 3 artifacts, not counting the belt. Quote
CMP Posted September 16, 2012 Posted September 16, 2012 I'm actually contemplating on allowing players to have "full equipment" (ie. allowing them to equip one artefact from each subcategory), but I don't know how that will affect the balance of this game. Any opinions? I think that's fair. You'd still have to make a lot of choices, considering most of the notable artifacts are in the same categories. (Mainly torsowear/accessories). Quote

Any opinions? While in the past I said no, because it would upset balance, make power differences between players larger. Now I say that probably can't hurt, because of the Artifact store, everyone can get artifacts now, it's not up to the sole mercy of the Qm wether or not you get an artifact. There need to be more artifacts in the store though. Quote

The "no more than one type" will permanently limit us to four no matter what, and will prevent too many. I'm not even making an argument either way, I'm just raising the question. How would we still be limited to 4? The only downside I can see to allowing all 6 slots to be occupied is the increase in amount of SP available to everyone. It used to be SP was solely the realm of knights. Taking Skrall as an example, he could have a total of 8 SP just from market place artifacts alone and not have to worry about sacrificing any other bonuses. I'm not saying that this will be a bad thing necessarily, but it will definitely impact how the stats of enemies are crafted especially when all the party members have SP. Quote
Zepher Posted September 16, 2012 Posted September 16, 2012 Shhhh, I fixed it in editing. I thought there were only 4 types of artifacts available... turns out there are six. Quote

Sandy Posted September 16, 2012 Author Posted September 16, 2012 Thanks for the ideas. If you don't mind, Zepher, I'd like to process your idea into this: Level 1: one artefact Level 10: two artefacts Level 20: three artefacts Level 30: four artefacts Level 40: five artefacts Level 50: six artefacts Sounds simpler, eh? Naturally the "one from each subcategory" -rule would still be in effect. Quote
Zepher Posted September 16, 2012 Posted September 16, 2012 Looks great to me! Now, someone produce a footwear for Knights. Quote

Sandy Posted September 16, 2012 Author Posted September 16, 2012 Right, but Siercon's level 5 and he's already got 2 artifacts. Well, he would have to unequip one until he hit Level 10. But I won't make this into a rule just yet, I want to give people a chance to voice out their opinions. Quote

Flipz Posted September 16, 2012 Posted September 16, 2012 I'm in favor of it, though I must say for the record that Zeph's version really appeals to the D&D side of me. That said, I know how much easier your system will be on the QM end of things, so I heartily approve. Quote
Scorpiox Posted September 16, 2012 Posted September 16, 2012 That nicely sorts out the artefact rule, Sandy. As for Quest #38... Wow, Haldor has never been so scrutinised. Here I was, thinking that the NPCs would be quiet and do as they are told, but this being a Zepher quest, they have very deep opinions indeed. Quote
Zepher Posted September 16, 2012 Posted September 16, 2012 I have to admit it, I hate my NPCs sometimes. I love writing for them... but it requires me juggling... at this point, somewhere like 20 views on the world. Remembering all of them AND keeping them unique.  Seriously. Just seriously. So hard to figure out who would say what. How does Triad feel about McColt? Would Boomingham and Hans get along? When faced with a bribe, would Russel take it? Would Guffington? How about Mallelio? And none of them can react the exact same way to something, or they'd be boring. Also, note, the Emperor Brunt Side-quest is being published currently. A month after Dastan is over... sorry. It will bother me and no doubt those players that I already bother to have 30 bumped to the top of the page, but in all honesty, it would bother me more if I failed to ever publish it, so it's going up now. Endgame Posted September 16, 2012 Posted September 16, 2012 (edited) For those of you too afraid to go on another Endgame quest, don't worry, I have gone over enemy stats with Sandy and gotten the seal of approval. They'll also be a montain of plot this time, so hooray! The Proggs are having a very big comeback, so those who liked 36 will love this one. Edited September 16, 2012 by Endgame Quote
posades Posted September 16, 2012 Posted September 16, 2012 The artifact rules seems fine to me; I had originally proposed giving an extra artifact slot after each class change way back when, but with this set-up you get more. Quote
