Etzel Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 1. Elphaba comes to Eubric generally around the month of November and I believe May?? She comes at Samhain (Halloween) and the vernal equinox (usually 20th of March) and stays about a month each time. Quote

PsyKater Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 Skrall vs. "Pain" - Critical Hit (WP: 8 + 2 x 2 = 16 + level 21 = 37 Damage Dealt, + Knockback) Why is 8+2x2=16? Should be 12 or is this something special? (No offense; just curious) Quote
Waterbrick Down Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 Why is 8+2x2=16? Should be 12 or is this something special? (No offense; just curious) Actually you are partially right in noting the error. The Heavy Crossbow is WP 8, my hunter's quiver gives me a +2 WP bonus when using a bow or crossbow, and since it's a critical hit my WP doubles. Thus (8+2)x2=20 + Level (21) = 41 damage Quote

Waterbrick Down Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 Hey. I never claimed to be able to do basic math. Now you see why I was the bane of Zepher's quests. Seriously though, I've toyed with the idea of trying to figure out how to write a program that can predict battle results if given the correct inputs. Or on the flipside, generate enemy stats for a given Party group. So I'm sure running a simple battle round wouldn't be too hard for it. Quote

Battles of 100 enemies suddenly seem a breeze. You should totally do this! Heroica RPG will have to become a TV series before they make a video game of it. Heroica RPG will have to become a TV series before they make a video game of it. This issue with making Heroica any form of story is WHO ARE THE MAIN CHARACTERS?! If you look at the massive number of beautifully complex player characters, and the NPCs who would, in theory, be no different than the PCs... who's CONFLICT are you following? I love Heroica as a story, it is actually one of my favorites, and it saddens me greatly that more people don't get a chance to experience the epic, but I can't think of a way to share it (even just for the sake of thinking it up, not actually sharing it). For example - as a video game, you'd lose A LOT of the great character twists that come from playing with other people. It's fun to brainstorm fixes for those of us who are interested in story-telling in its various mediums. Quote

That's the reason I like it. If your characters shine, it's because of good roleplaying, not because they just so happen to be main character - there aren't any. There's no single storyline to follow, the story is the entire world built around Heroica. Edited November 2, 2012 by CallMePie Quote
Pyrovisionary Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 I say we follow Atramor's shining success. Or something like that. To be honest I would say that the best characters to follow (I may forget some so don't feel angry if I leave you out) are Docken, Nyx, Namyra, Atramor, Skrall, Cronk, Lawrence Boomingham, And daggerfall. Perhaps there is a story to be found in quests. Turn the actions, battles, etc into the tale of quest 1: Harvest time. Quote
TheBoyWonder Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 I wouldnt say dagger fall, but you got to say Hybros and Ellaria. Quote
Scubacarrot Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 The thing is, you can't portray characters that all have a deep backstory, in something that works. You could never have a worked out Boomingham into something like we are discussing, because his backstory is something that stands apart entirely from whatever else is going on. And what you are going to see, is that characters will be flattened, basically. Even if you want to write something out of Heroica as a stand alone story, that's going to have to happen. I think what we are doing is cool, but for a lot of other forms of media, most of characters just wouldn't work. A lot of that is because there is no main struggle for our characters. Sure, for example Guts has his past that follows him around, made him what he is, and still needs to get in sync with, but that's all background noise. And if you want to have a main storyline, you need a protagonist, which we don't have. It's actually very possible one does emerge, although it's highly unlikely with the groups and stuff. Quote
Flipz Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 (edited) Heroica would work rather well as a television series, I think--the episodic, serial nature would be well-suited for it, and TV shows can support a far larger cast of characters than most other "complete" forms of media. It would work well as a comic book series as well, though, for somewhat similar reasons. Edited November 2, 2012 by Flipz Quote
Zepher Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 Yes! Sorry if I made it seem like I actually wanted a main character or conflict in the game. I love the way it is: an ensemble cast with an ensemble story. It's awesome. But it ONLY works for this game. I was saying that if someone was to adapt it to another story medium, you'd need to pick a main (or a few) main characters, and then pick a main conflict. The fate of Eubric could serve as a central conflict... but there are so many other things that are great. I put out the challenge of HOW you would adapt the story. I've tried, just as a challenge to myself, and found a number of issues. I want to see how other story-tellers I respect try to over come them! Namely: a lot of important action happens in the hall, but in a movie, it would be boring to sit around and talk so long. Same goes for a book, or a television show. How would you segment the talking there with other cool events? How would you figure out which quests to cut. Story-wise, Quest 1 wouldn't be overly exciting (no offense of course Sandy, the battles are what make it cool, but they wouldn't translate without the mechanics). HOWEVER, it serves to introduce a number of characters and relationships that are important later. How would you rework the story to cut Quest 1 but still have important events. Sorry if I'm boring folks. I want to be a TV/Film writer, so these sort of questions are great practice for me! I like to have a forum to discuss them, but I don't want to hijack the thread too much.
