In other news, has anyone got any future plans for the LOTR Uruk-hai race? I was thinking of coming up with something for the red-skinned beasties, if no-one else has already. So far, the only use of them in Heroica to my knowledge is Pie's Ahkzalga in the Bric'bay writeboard, and we all know what happened to him...

I've got tentative plans involving them, but since they're a race I'd imagine they've spread all across the world.

And you don't get to play as a pantheon of gods here, he has a chance of surviving.

@Zeph: Really? Interesting...you aren't planning on utilizing the Cathedral of Mercuito, by any chance, are you?

Depending on when we see images of it, perhaps! They heroes will be traveling over a fair amount of Eubric, though not a terrible lot of important or well known places, though one or two may crop up. You'll be visiting Triad Park almost certainly, and hopefully at least one of the major houses. I need to talk to Sandy a bit... the locations aren't PARTCULARLY important, but they could be interesting.

I've also got to ask people in general, are they planning any quests to take place in Eubric during the months on January/February? I'd just like to know. Nothing to do about it either way, but I'm wondering!

You're not going to have an apocalyptic event in Eubric. Think of all the poor people.

Plus it's TOTALLY unrealistic, from what we've seen from Wren, I doubt she and her minions could withstand: A: The Bonapartes forces, B: The Shadeaux' forces, C: The Town Watch, D: The Hinckwell's forces, E: The Ziegfrieds, F: The Guild of Invision's buffing them all with potions and consumables, G: Every Crook that can handle a sword in the city. H: Every Hero on Uland at that time. I: Whatever forces the Temples have, probably healers and paladins.

Face it, An invasion by Wren, totally impossible.

I don't. Didn't John Paul use one? Or has he just used the armor?

Not me. When I get around to hosting again, it'll probably be a quest in R'kilf, but if I do host that quest, it won't involve Eubric.

Don't fear, she's not invading. I have, multiple times, said that's not what I want to happen. I recognize that she's not the major storyline, but she is coming to Eubric. An invasion is not her goal, would be poor sprotmanship to the other QMs of the game, and as you've said, quite frankly impossible.

- Buy a ton of Phoenix Essences.

- Find a Rat.

- Kill it.

- Revive it.

Repeat steps 3 and 4 until high level. :sweet:

*oh2* Suddenly, I really, really want to go on a quest that features both Atramor and Erdathcath, that is assuming that if Erdathcath heals a rat her roots of life would also revive it... and she's permanently lucky now too. :moar:

Help me bug Doc incessantly once he gets back from his trip, then.

Most likely, if approved, my Quest will be departing sometime in January or February, given my current stage of planning, though it could always come a little later if need be.

I'm going to try to walk the line between having it not be ignored by Eubric, but not have it effect Eubric too much. The Town Watch WILL be featured, and POSSIBLY one of the major houses (in an extremely minor role) but the reason that Wren will mostly not be against the main houses and their forces is because... well, like you said, she doesn't have the force. She works in the shadows, not upfront. She will be such a SMALL threat (in her actions) that they'd in theory just ignore her.

I really want to run a quest eventually that features some members of the major houses. I feel that I haven't been kind in involving them enough. I have had one character who was a distant cousin of the Hinckwells, and that's all. I feel that Sandy has given us a compelling center story, and I want to try to start to include it more.

Sandy, I feel like all these posts have got to be scaring you a little. I will get you a play by play of the final Wren quest relatively soon so you can workshop it with me.

EVERYONE WHO HAS NEVER QM'd, I think we all know to thank Sandy for this wonderful game, but you don't know how much work he does with me on every quest. He has had a MAJOR hand in helping with all the quests I've run, and I assume that the other QMs have somewhat similar set-ups. So... just one more thing everyone should be thankful for. He works hard even behind the scenes.

I happened to come up with a quest idea earlier this evening that I've started working on. It doesn't involve Eubric much expect in the start and finish and I hope to use the leaders of the Hinckwell and Shadeaux family briefly during those stages of the quest. But if that interfere with your plans I can always use a lower ranked family member if necessary.

No no, please don't plan around me! That sounds great to me, go for it!

Also, your idea for a dinner party murder was going to be the idea for the second Guffington Quest. I have altered mine now; props for the beating me to the punch! I'm enjoying your version of the classical murder story immensely!

What's everyone's personal preference as to how long a Quest should take?

I'm considering a Questline, and have a good idea of how to split it up, but I'm just wondering where it should split up.

4 months maximum. Quests about 1 to 2 months is usually good, 3 months for those of bigger scale, 4 months for gigantic ones.

Right, I never intended it to be more than 4 months. I'm just wondering the length people prefer. :classic:

I usually like more bite-sized quests, mostly. Especially if they are being split up. So, probably in the 1.5 to 2 month range for me.

Thank you so much!

I can reveal that my next quest will not revolve around the Paladin Order. Time to try something new! :sweet:

1-2 month is my personal preference. But up to 3 months is okay too, if the quest is continuously moving forward.

I actually prefer the longer-length Quests 17, and Dastan were all about 3 months long, which is just perfect for me; it allows for lots of room for experience and loot gain, while at the same time allowing plenty of change in the outside world in the meantime--some of the greatest fun I've had in the Hall is having Arthur react to recent events as related to him by the Library and the other Heroes.

I prefer Quests of 1 to 2 months, otherwise Real Life can sometimes intrude. That's not to say I didn't love and get a lot out of the Dastan Quests, but they were an Event, and so were necessarily longer.

Both my (newbie) Quests were round 4-6 weeks, which keeps things quite punchy. Quest #52 will probably last 2 months, especially if we stop over the holidays.

Interesting question. I have two answers.

As a player, I could play in a quest that went on for as short as a month, or as long as 3, perhaps even 3 1/2. The major thing that bothers me is LAGS in quests. I want to roleplay, and hate when I'm not allowed to. I try to get on quests with people I know will check in daily, and QMs I expect to give me updates often. That being said, as a QM myself, I know a pause or two is bound to happen.

As a QM, I actually have started to work on SHORTER QUESTS. I think they're more fun. Some epic quests are necessary, but they won't feel epic if all quests are that long. Again, if I host any quest, I try to update no less than once a day if I can help it. I hate making players wait. I felt that Dastan worked well because, while long, it MOVED. The players were still moved through events quickly, so it felt shorter. I think Guffington and the Lost Party are both good lengths and speeds for me. My first quest was a NIGHTMARE - nothing happened and it went on forever. Wasn't fair to the players.

Very true--I like long Quests when I can actually DO things. Now that I think about it, I complained (too much  ) during both Quests 17 and 31 when activity dropped.

Alright, thanks, everyone.

The way it's looking it's going to contrast very much against Quest 51.

A quest should be like a skirt: long enough to cover the important stuff, but short enough to keep things interesting!

Had to.

Quest length here frequently comes down to availability of players and QM, how well time zones and availability synch up, etc. Quests that are designed to be fairly short can drag on, while longer quests can move along quickly. It's a lot easier to RP a conversation when everyone can post in the same block of time, rather than having a conversation as a series of posts over a day or more. As has been said, as long as a quest can move at a reasonable pace, I rather like longer quests. Of course, with more people hosting, there's a lot more options (lots of creativity and different styles and etc etc!), and being on a longer quest can mean you miss out on some really awesome shorter quests.

In other news, hey, someone, buy Thormy's Tailblade. And rent his boots. He needs cash and he needs it now, and so far, I haven't seen a Eubricified JG Wentworth!
