Okay, I'm getting a little confused here......:

If Chromeknight's character is an elf who is 200some years old, then why is Masked Builder's only 18? Come on people, stick to a consistent ageing rate for elves!

Everyone has to start somewhere.

If you look at the ages for elven characters on the first page of the hall you'll see they range from

18 -Alexis (Masked Builder) to 374 - Rufus Galadhras (Rufus)

I guess your question is not about ageing rate, since presumably we all age at the same rate, but a cultural question.

i.e. Humans are 'adults' at 18 (or so) and are 'old' at 70ish. What is 'adult' and 'old' for elves?

But why can't there be different answers? Perhaps some groups of elves live among humans, so an 18 year old elf is 'adult' (see Alexis...)

Others are more culturally 'elven' growing up separate from humans and counting decades like humans count years, so 180 is maybe old enough to have some responsibility and to go out and see the world.

I get the impression Sandy is very uninterested in answering questions like these, leaving it up to individuals to work it out among themselves.

Even better, it provides for Roleplaying hooks.

For example Nerwen would likely see Alexis as a baby, since she's not yet 2 decades. She won't flat out treat her as such (especially without PMing Masked builder to discuss it!) and Nerwen's been around enough humans that she kinda understands they grow up quickly.

Besides, there are other odd ages out there. De'kra is 11? Namyrra is 1337 (or is that LEET?). I think she's already complained about 'pre-millennials'!

Does it affect the game? Only incidentally...

Is it a problem? not at all.

Hope this help you sort it out in your head.

Why are some people's usernames turned into numbers?

It's a Staff and Fellow thing. Every now and then they change their names and avatars to something else, all based on a common theme. They had Muppets and elements a little while ago.

Bricksandparts, your excessive and unnecessary OOCs are making it too difficult for me to continue with quest 10. I'm close to having my character abandoning the quest. Please keep the rest of your out of character random thoughts in this topic or I'm sure it's going to take another ten quests before you're selected again let alone allowed to host. You've been warned before yet you persist. Please calm down.

I have to agree it is EXTREMELY distracting. Reading along is hard and I am confused as to what is really going on with your character. Some of the OOC seems to be character talk, or at least in theory it could be, other seems OOC, other seems needless OOC, and some just seems like your thoughts on the forums in general. I don't mind OOC, I use it in my quest a lot actually, but at least use it when needed and when appropriate and make sure you're playing the game as well.

Sorry... Sometimes I just don't like rewriting everything the way Alf would say it like saying this sentence:

:sadnew: Sometime I don't like rewrite way Alf say like sentence:

Yeah, I just OOC: in my last 6 posts. Sorry.

Maybe Jebediahs' character should curse you.

Then you don't have to rewrite sentences, you can just describe Alf's actions.

And when you're healed after the quest you can be better at speaking and not have to rewrite sentences.

Plus Jebediahs get to roleplay the "I hurt him and it felt good" angst...

Well, Sandy says she likes it more when people play out their role better. Anyways, Alf will learn more when he becomes a mage/barbarian.

Fenarians age extremely slowly, so a 1337 year old Fenarian is pretty much equivalent to a human in their early 20s. And yes, she did complain about pre-milleniars who would be something like teenagers. (hey, I created the race, I make the rules )

It only affects the game and becomes a problem if the players let it. I for one think diversity is good, there are enough human, male knights in Heroica already.

Agreed, in fact, a few male Elves would be in order I believe. (I only know of one) It seems like everyone believes Elves are female.....

I count 4

Alexandre le Chevalier (played by Capt.JohnPaul)

Amorith Marvelo (played by legobodgers)

Arasmyth RuGard (played by Kadabra)

Rufindel Galadhras (played by Rufus) Though I think he's not playing anymore.

Equally, I only count 4 female elves?

Alexis Fenral (played by Masked Builder)

Erdathcath Madilinas (played by The_Customizer)

Jess Islanti (played by cralegoboy)

Nerwen Calmcacil (played by Chromeknight)

But there are a lot of human males, perhaps that balances it out.And explains two half-elven males

Benji Carvenhall (played by Flare)

Dak Nikolus (played by darthnihilius)

I think you should remember that not all "people" in the fantasy world are warriors, so It doesnt really matter if there are more of 1 race/gender combination in my opinion.

I think you've misunderstood the point of my post.

The customiser was suggesting there were many more female elf characters than male characters.

I was replying it only seems that way because there are, for humans at least, many more male human characters, so the females and elves stand out.

I agree, there will be multiples of gender/race/class combinations (look how many male human rogues there are!) It's to be expected.

But as you've brought it up, there have been quite a few elf NPCs in quest #10, and the balance is firmly towards males.

Again, not that I really care either way. But I did choose my character to stand out some. I mean, who wants to be, say, another forestman-ranger? How would you differentiate your character from the others?

backstory?

Backstory helps, but that can be lost easily, since most people I assume just glance at your signature and make their assumptions from their. The more unique your character, the easier it is to keep from falling into those assumptions.

Right, De'kra is actually considered to be ancient by his people, to reach a decade is almost unheard of. Most of his people live only to be half a year old to three years at most, although death is not as final as it is for other races. Likewise the way his kind measures time is different than the way other races do it, his eleven years of life don't translate into Heroica years.

Don't be silly, of course you're not going to abandon the quest! We're very close to finishing it, you see.

And if it's hard for you to stand it, imagine what it's like for the host!

Bricksandparts, I've repeatedly told you that I do not like excessive OoC-posts in the quest topics - especially not ones that only consist of out-of-character talk and have no bearing to the game. Since other players are starting to complain, you should now see that you need to stop with the OoC'ing or risk getting left out of all future quests.

Not a good option for you, am I right? :sceptic:

If I may be so bold, who is in the process of making a quest, or, are there soon gonna be more quests?

There are currently some people who are planning for quests, but at this point there are no other approved quest pitches from other members (other than the one already posted to the Heroica Hall topic).

I will put up two new quests of my own once I'm finished with my current quest. One will be a Ziegfried-quest open to all players, the other a Bonapartes-quest for those with at least 5 levels.

As to the "Elf age" argument, everyone has to start at 1. 18 is a very very young age for elves as they can live to be thousands of years old. Sure for humans 100 is old. But the elves have something that makes them live for really long periods of time.

Oooh, that second one sounds good. I should be level five by the end of this quest.
