Why is you character named what its named?

I stated this I first joined Heroica, but it can't hurt to say it again.

Haldor Skovgaard is a combination of actual Norse names, and have a true meaning. Haldor, as Khorne so expertly deduced, is a reference to the god Thor, with the name roughly meaning 'Thor's rock'. Skovgaard is a fairly common Norwegian surname, dating back to the dark ages. it means 'House/farm by the woods'. I chose them both because I liked the sound of them, and the best name for a fictional Norse character would be one that stems from some real-life Norse names.

I saw the name "Ellaria" used in the Song of Ice & Fire -series (aka. Game of Thrones by those who have only seen the tv-series), and liked it enough to use it for my character as well. "Arbour" is simply a reference to the latin word meaning "wood".

And The Arbor is a place in Westeros..

Carvahall is also a place name in Costa del Sol, Spain. Geez, what hasn't that damned Paolini stolen for his books?

Hmmm... human and elf in love with each other is new... wait never mind... um... what about the grouchy dwarves? Scary dragons? :sweet:

Never fear, I'll think of something...

'Brickdoctor' + quickly Googled list of medieval names = 'Bartholomew Docken'.

I like my username and my characters' names to be alliterative. Plus other players can call me 'Doc' in-character and it still makes sense.

Atramor I just made up at random. Gibbin can be either 'gibbing' without the g or just 'gibbon' with an i....I forget.

Thanks Corny, I think we all really, really tried with that fight. :cry_sad:

Zepher, I love your quests, you know that, but if you were willing to take out 2 apprentices then that shows you were willing to edit the enemies relative to the hero team. If all the heroes had only gone to one place you would have adjusted the enemies accordingly, so why you felt you couldn't do more this time is something I fail to understand. I know you don't have to make the battles easy, but they should at least be possible (and possible with a percentage that's a whole number).

You did all really try, and I will look for a way to reward your thinking later, for certain. You guys made very few bad choices and a whole lot of pretty genius ones.

And if you'd all gone to one place, I would not have upped the enemies ability or numbers. It would have been a cake walk battle. You guys always have that alternative, though it will of course make the final battle tougher. I removed the apprentices because I felt they would make it too difficult for the party size the battle was intended for (8ish heroes/NPCs). I will elaborate further when the quest is over why I did not and will not in the future nerf numbers of enemies if you, but there IS a reason. Keep fighting Nyx!! You're friends with all the enemy NPCs, you should be able to do pretty decently from here on in.

#2 - Can we drop by the market mid-quest?

Surely. Tell me which battle you'd like to sit-out to go shopping during.:devil:

Dorne only recently entered the stage (just finished Storm of Swords today) but I can't think of anything else when I read that damn name. You've polluted my brain.

Alexander Vandangant comes from the union with Alexander (my real name) and Vandangante (without final e) that surname of the character that appears in Star Wars Klaus Vandangante. :classic:

I just typed my wife's name into the

Elvish name generator. It clearly uses Tolkien Elvish, even though Nerwen itself doesn't appear in the books. I've popped back there a couple of times to grab other names for Nerwen's relations, including using my own, which turns out to be Lenwë, one of the Teleri lords in the first age of middle earth.

I, also, am revealed through that generator, to be apparently called Lenwë...

Is that really an option? There's one particular shop in Eubric Arthur would gladly skip a battle to shop during.

I think I've stated why I gave Arthur his unusual name: his initials spell out AJR7, the name of the one-of-a-kind LEGO Universe minifig I own. (Any minifig I build using that face must use those initials.) Before I settled on using that face, I was going to have a mage by the name of Amarus Zagrene, which, if you look into the etymology, would still be a very appropriate name for Arthur.

...and interestingly...thorugh that Elven name generator, I would be Elrohir Calmcacil... :look:

But you chose to be the Rogue! :oh:

Or did I just claim Mage first? :look:

'Galen' only came up after I had picked Rogue. When I thought of a Rogue, for some reason this sci-fi character came to mind first, though he is indeed a Mage. :look:

Sorcerer would be a waste on Galen, he can fight from full effectiveness (and moreso with the Hide of the Wound) from the back row already. I'd go Raider or Black Knight.

Even though I know this was a joke.

A long, long time ago, there was a moderately popular Playstation 2 port of EverQuest. I played that for a while and, over the course of my time spent there, acquired one particular set of robes that I really liked. I happened to get them from an igloo camp with a bunch of skeletons. The Robes of Thormanil. They were a mid-level item and didn't have incredible stats, but I kept them nonetheless. Never saw much else on "Thormanil", figured it was just some flavor text referencing an otherwise uninteresting sorceror in the EQ-verse. Only just learned that there's apparently a lost city of Thormanil somewhere in the lore.

Been using "Thormanil" for most of my fantasy characters, I just like the name. I had a "Thormanil" Tauren Druid back in early days of WoW and a Dwarf Priest of the same name on a private server. The priest started the "Nihai" trend as his surname, because, I mean, he was a dwarf, standing no more than a knee-high! Since Thormy here is the runt of his tribe, the name fit, too.

If I remember, Dyric Rone really just came around because it sounded like a cool name. Afterwards, though, Doc noted a similarity to the name Daric LaRone from Allegiance, by Timothy Zahn. Not sure how that came about, but I guess the name was just in my head and I didn't realize it. As such, a lot of the names from Dyric's past are slightly different versions of characters from the book.

Special thanks to Etzel for our most recent interlude! Beautifully written, built and photographed!

 I must whole-heatedly agree. I couldn't get some of the Elrond/Galadriel scenes from LOTR out of my mind while reading it, well done.

...aaaand another reminder why Arthur will never be able to go on a Paladin Quest.

For a second there, I thought that the NPCs were leaving without us Heroes, and I got a REEEALLY bad feeling about it, but then I realized my mistake.

"Regret...? Master of...Regret?" Arthur's frown grew deeper. <Vipera...I have met with one who calls himself The Regret. He...he is a Progg, a monstrous insect-like creature, born of Ether. One of their great princes was responsible for the death of a Hero some months ago. Vipera...he could contact the dead. He showed me...countless relatives of mine...and he told me...he told me I...I have...a...a...a...a gi...>

Huh. :look: I wondered myself if the MoR had anything to do with The Regret, or if it was just a naming coincedence. If they do have a relation, I trust Zeph to make it awesome.

Best part is, though, The Regret actually is hearing this little telepathic convo: he himself has pretty strong ties to the spirit pools and whatnot. Prometheus doesn't have eyes and ears everywhere, but the eyes and ears he does have can be anywhere.
