Flipz Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 I think you guys will be okay!! I have faith. This coming from the QM who said the undead fight would be winnable. But seriously, where is the loot from these fights?! Quote

Flipz Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 Zeph, that's just mean, you made it so the smallest possible number of Free Hits is guaranteed to take out Dyric--by exactly the right amount of HP. (16+20+20)/2 (Back Row) = 28 Damage. We absolutely NEED my SHIELD to survive. Time to Rules Lawyer, I guess... Quote

Zepher Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 (edited) I didn't make anything. I don't change the battle for the heroes you send, you picked your teams. I even warned you what was where this time!! You know Chimera Guards deal free hits on the first round! Should have planned ahead. Hasten someone. They'll absorb the hit. Or maybe one of the two lucky heroes will get a shield. Or you could take out one of the Chimera guards. That prevents one of the assured free hits. Or use one of your phoenix essences. Or if CMP had decided to stick around, you'd be okay. Just saying. You're also lucky. Copy and pasting dropped Chimera Guard G, so you're fighting one less enemy somehow. Not necessarily, if Dyric at least makes contact with his whip and assassinates at least one of the untargetted enemies (not too bad of a chance considering he's lucky) and he's at the bottom of the order he may survive. Technically speaking Zepher isn't necessarily mean either, if he's had these stats setup prior to our choosing our parties and who goes where, then it was just our bad luck that we split up the way we did. Flipz Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 You'll have just enough gold to buy a Mead. To share. While you get a shiny new flail to sell to someone. Well, hey, at least if you manage to hit anything, you've got the battle survivable. If any of us take Damage this Round, we're down permanently. I didn't make anything. I don't change the battle for the heroes you send, you picked your teams. I even warned you what was where this time!! You know Chimera Guards deal free hits on the first round! Should have planned ahead. Hasten someone. They'll absorb the hit. As I recall, you mentioned Chimaera Guards at the Observatory and Pongcanis with Triad. You said nothing about Guffington Manor, other than Wren's cryptic hint about Chaos Beasts. Well, at least Arthur's got a 75% chance of being the lone survivor of the battle! (I fully expect the Lucky effect to apply to the Staff roll!) Not necessarily, if Dyric at least makes contact with his whip and assassinates at least one of the untargetted enemies (not too bad of a chance considering he's lucky) and he's at the bottom of the order he may survive. Yeah, I get that the stuff is all pre-set prior to the party coming into contact with it. It's the numbers that are screwing us over. Still, you have to admit it's more than a little frustrating to be guaranteed a KO by exactly your max HP. Quote

Endgame Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 I'm not sure if preset battles to such exact specifications is the best idea - you can end up with battles that can either be too hard or too easy, depending on what loot the party acquired before the quest and whatnot. it seems to have worked out pretty well thus far, the only battle being out of the difficulty curve (IMO) was Zee's. I'll admit that I'm not nearly as organized as Zepher - I just plan which enemies appear when, have a few preplanned specials, and give them a range (As in, HP: 300-400, SP: 4-8, Level: 23-25.) Confession? The shuffling mechanic for Aquos's battle was invented about an hour before the battle began. That is the worst offender, by far. Quote
CMP Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 Or if CMP had decided to stick around, you'd be okay. Just saying. I'm having second thoughts, mostly because of that particular fact. Didn't think one person was the difference between life and death... I've also never been more aware of how badly Hex sucks. Quote
Endgame Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 If you hex a hastened enemy, does it get 2 hits on an enemy instead of 1? Quote
UsernameMDM Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 Zeph tried to warn the party, and I parroted his warnings. Yes, 1 party member can make a huge difference, especially when it comes to taking away free hits! Quote

Fortunately or unfortunately, Arthur has the Lucky Die equipped instead of the Lens; I'd have to take a turn to switch them. I agree with what Endgame said. Though I have to ask...was that in any way inspired by that little test I tried to run last month? Quote
CMP Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 Where's the fun in rationality? Sometimes role-play trumps game-play. Exactly. But now it's evident roleplay is going to get us all killed, so I'm re-thinking it. Quote

How could I be inspired by my own creation? Remember the Gooper Blooper music? Look up the accompanying battle form the game it comes from on Youtube. Quote

Waterbrick Down Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 Winning > role-play I agree, but some may not and they are equally right. That's the beauty of playing with such a mixed group of players though. Quote
Zepher Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 I will keep my commentary for the end of the quest. Heroes are tougher than you think. There was outrage at all the battles of last round, but Cronk and Alexis walked away with hardly a scratch, and the Zee party almost won even though they DIDN'T listen to the warning. Quote
Dannylonglegs Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 Damn, I missed the end of that conversation! I guess I'll have to wait until we're fighting him to be all doomy and gloomy about the future of Humanity and nature and whatnot. ~Insectoid Aristocrat Quote
Endgame Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 I can't put all the development in one convo anyway, I need some in-battle character development for everyone's favorite emperor anyway. Quote
