Rumble Strike Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 I really should have anticipated that Guts wouldn't just hand the Darkstar over. But if it leaves the Maginastra's room, it will definitely be inert. As I said in the topic, I am not opposed to Guts taking it for RP purposes (I imagine him getting it out in the Hall, with hilarious consequences...) but it won't be a weapon, or able to influence anyone. Scubacarrot Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 Why not? I just want to Jedi Mind Trick people! Quote
Rumble Strike Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 Not going to happen, as it was never ever intended to be a weapon for player character use, and as QM I stand by that. This isn't a knock on Guts, if any of the party wanted to use it as a weapon they'd get teh same response. I'm considering Guts being able to take it as a "memento" because of his history with Haroka and Sorona in Quest#13 and again in this Quest. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 I have to agree with Rumble; the Darkstar being an artifact and source of power taken from the antagonist, it shouldn't give the protagonist hero any benefits. (even one such as Guts who's obviously not a Lawful Good hero) If anything, it should be negatively affecting the hero. The Darkstar came to the creature Guts, who took it deep into the tunnels of Heroica Hall. And there, it consumed him. Quote

Pyrovisionary Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 Looking at Nagure, he looks amazing! with SP:12 and WP:14. Boss! Quote
CMP Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 Unless he's going to be splitting out the gold, I don't care about his gold-making antics. Lets just get this dang battle done with. The voice of reason!! Quote
Scubacarrot Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 Honestly, if you don´t want a Hero to use something, don´t give them the choice of what to do with it. Not knocking on your QM´ing, but it is my duty to get the most powerful items that I can, as a player. Quote
CMP Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 The Darkstar doesn't do anything, though. I think it fleshes out Guts as a character to try and keep all the probably lethal ancient magic artifacts, but it doesn't make much sense for everyone to let him keep it. By the looks of it, he's probably going to have to fight off the Maginastra, Hlin, and his entire party if he wants to try. And he's out of Meads, Nostrums, and Smelling Salts. There are some points in Quests where you have to be a better player than a better character, basically. Quote
Rumble Strike Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 I understand that. You've asked. I've said no. I like to give the characters some freedom, as you know, but you have to respect the QM's decision. Guts choices are as follows: Give it to the Maginastra Give it to the Zeigfreids Give it to another NPC group such as the Paladin Order Keep it as an inert shell of what it once was Quote
Etzel Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 *snip* Keep it as an inert shell of what it once was If it comes down to this I hope you can make some sort of explanation in-game that the Darkstar doesn't hold any powers anymore, or Maurice would continue to pursue Guts to hand it over. Quote
Scubacarrot Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 Maybe because Guts isn´t a magic user, it would be worthless for as long as he held it? Now what does Haroka´s head do? I am thinking... Joke, joke. Quote
Rumble Strike Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 I already have an explanation, which I was going to use when Guts handed it to Byverion, much like when Nerwen showed the vial to him, but Guts didn't. I think you guys think this might be a trick of some sort, but this really is just the end of the Quest. Quote
Etzel Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 No, I truly believe the quest would've ended by now if it wasn't for a certain distrusting party leader. Quote
Scubacarrot Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 Why would you hand a very powerful artifact over to a kidnapper, that´s just common sense. Quote
swils Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 The voice of reason!! Psh, the last time I suggested that Rogues might consider sharing their pilfered riches, the notion was promptly shot down by rogues and nonrogues alike. If Flare so desires, then Benji may take a cut of precisely 15.29% of the total gold Thormy steals, multiplied by 8, rounded up to the nearest integer-value, then divided by 18, rounded down similarly, all numbers to be calculated by the ever-gracious QM, of course! Now get to rolling, ya bum! Quote

swils Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 If you stole 100 gold then Benji would get 7. Six, actually. The second approximation is a rounding down, not up Quote
UsernameMDM Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 Six, actually. The second approximation is a rounding down, not up Which is lame. If you want insane amounts of gold, be a rogue. Otherwise, quit whining. Quote
swils Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 Which is lame. If you want insane amounts of gold, be a rogue. Otherwise, quit whining. Heh, I agree it's a lame cut, but then, Flare didn't specify how even a split he was looking for, so I think it's a perfectly fair share! I believe that his main aversion to it, though, is the time it takes to roll extra rounds all for the sake of trying to squeeze out some extra gold that only I would benefit from. I can understand where he's coming from, but as long as he's not the one doing the rolling, there's no harm done (Right, Pie? ), so he should shut his trap and let me live the heroican dream. But he is the party leader and we are here for glory points and not a gold run, so I'll completely defer to his decision on this and opt to only joke around about it in R&D. No harm, no foul, no hard feelings. Just some less-heavy pockets! Quote
Scubacarrot Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 I just realized something. If Guts were to hand the Darkstar over for inspection to the Magisteriatananata, he would say that it´s powers were gone, right? If that was the case, Guts wouldn´t have any problems handing it over to the Ziegfrieds, which in turn, would presumably grant us the promised reward of Quest 13, because let´s be honest, better late than never?
