Scubacarrot Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 (edited) Yes, the Damage calculations of the current Arena rules don't make sense. Especially at the higher Levels now, Aim can be more powerful than Critical Hit. I believe the new rules are using the regular calculations and dividing them by two or three (depending on the roll) to make the battles last longer. It's good that you are working on different rules, some of the rules are really weird, but those calculations are still hard to accept. At higher levels especially, hits of 100+ before doublings things will become common soon-ish. Here is what should happen how I see it: Remove Rows. They have no place in the arena. They give a distinct advantage to back row-weapons, either twice as much damage dealt than the front row fighter (if the front row fighter chooses to go back row), or half damage taken and twice as much damage dealt if the front row fighter goes to the front row. In normal situations this is countered by a rogue's money making or the barbarian's AoE and Extra Critical Hit, but there is no money making in the arena, and no AoE potential (unless group fights are introduced, which I would like to see). This is just one thing. SP and the ridiculous high possibility for attacks are different points. I don't have solid proposals for how to solve these problems (yet), but I will think about it. I have been thinking about hosting a relatively shortquest that is basically a tournament with players both having the option of fighting each other and NPC's as well, which I may do soon (Yes I know, Quest 40 is not done). Removing rows to make it more fair to Rogues and Barbarians takes away any reason to play a Ranger or a Mage in the Arena, though, so I would be against that. On the subject of Rogues and Barbarians, though, Barbarians should get a buff to their Damage-dealing capabilities in the new rules, and Rogues should be able to gain Gold. Quote

I don't see what you mean, if the reason is they are blatantly overpowered in there as that is the only reason now, then that should be taken away, yes. I say they only get roughly the same stats as others, not an effective doubling in output and halving of input because of row advantage. And Rogues should never be able to gain gold in anything other than Quests, it will lead to very easy moneymaking. I will try to whip something up tomorrow so I can illustrate my points. Quote

I will try to whip something up tomorrow so I can illustrate my points. There would of course be some sort of limitation on Gold gaining in the Arena, and there is already the "no-autorolling" rule in place to prevent abusing the Arena for easy loot. (plus if we decide to go with Rogues stealing Gold from the opponent, the opponent needs only to give all their Gold to another player before the battle, or the Rogue can always decide to give the Gold back) Quote
Scubacarrot Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 Which would effectively result in either no benefit to rogues after all or no one willing to fight rogues. I know I wouldn't want to fight an enemy that can take my stuff, I already think that there are enemies that can do it is a bad thing. Quote
Endgame Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 Read it and weep. My keyboard is drenched with tears - of laughter. Before this spirals further into the abyss of being off-topic, I would agree that there should be no loot to be gained whatsoever - though I think that the requirements for the rewards should be dropped a bit. CMP Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 (edited) If I'm a little inactive the next couple of days, Ulimited Quest/Quest 53 people, it means I've given up on Bright House and am getting a new ISP this weekend. Well, that's happening either way, but I have no idea if I'll be able to get a decent connection between now and then. On the bright side, I've made a surprising amount of progress on my next Quest without the internet to distract me. Edited March 8, 2013 by CallMePie Quote

Dannylonglegs Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 Definitely not, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't be funny. I agree, but if I go Minstrel, I'll try to play it more 1590s and less 1990s. I wrote a Bar song for my upcoming Quest too. It's a shame I don't know how to convey tune over the interwebs. In that respect, Rap is easier. ~Insectoid Aristocrat Quote

Palathadric Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 I think group fights in the arena is definitely necessary, because apart from mage and clerics fighting, or effect-dealing weapons, there has not be too much strategy involved in the arena fights, which makes them kind of dull. Great rap duel! Quote
