JimBee Posted November 5, 2011 Posted November 5, 2011 Woah, 25 enemies... that battle won't be easy with all of the free hits. Plus, they're undead humanoids, so no element does extra damage. Those on Quest 8 are in for a treat. Quote
Sandy Posted November 5, 2011 Author Posted November 5, 2011 Oh, and Sandy, what are the mechanics of the Healing Staff? Does it just allow healing without the use of Ether? (as in, you would still need a beneficial die roll to get it to work?) It simply replaces doing damage with healing. If you attack a normal enemy with it and roll a "Hit", you will heal it instead of causing damage. If the enemy is undead, though, you can damage it. No Ether is consumed, and the effectiveness of the healing is equal to your power. I think this will go to the FAQ, but I've decided that when you target allies with an attack (for example in the case of confusion or having a healing weapon), the rows do not matter. You will always cause full "damage" to your allies, no matter which row you or your targeted party member are standing in. It's just the simplest solution. And has Sandy posted the dual classes yet, if so where do you find them (I really don't feel like digging through all these topics.) I've only posted pictures of nine of the jobs (the latest batch of three was published earlier this week). The full details will come once someone reached Level 15 - and a whole new Heroica RPG topic will open for that occasion, because we clearly don't have enough topics for this game yet. With that said, what are the possibilities of more powerful bombs, maybe limited by only certain level heroes may use them. As of right now they work great, but with the inclusion of higher powered monsters being seen in the quests with more experienced heroes, they become very ineffective, i.e. Jeb's quests where a regular bomb damage would have an approximate 1:24 effectiveness ratio. Yes, I've been thinking of adding more powerful bombs in the future, but I've also planned for an expert class (which opens at Level 30 if special requirements are met) that specializes in using the bombs as ammunition. But that's all in planning stage at this moment. Quote
Sandy Posted November 5, 2011 Author Posted November 5, 2011 Hahahaha! My questers can never get past over 20 enemies in one battle! .... I think that was cheap, Capt.JohnPaul. At least have the decency to pose a real challenge to the players, instead of awarding them a level and 25 bones in exchange for one bomb. This is exactly the kind of behaviour people were worried to see when we planned this game to have multiple QMs. Hosting a quest shouldn't be just about dishing items, experience and gold to the players, it should be about challenging them in all fronts. That's what makes the quests fun to play, not getting loads of stuff (although that's nice too). Quote
legobodgers Posted November 5, 2011 Posted November 5, 2011 I agree but I still like the concept, maybe it one bomb would leave them with 1 health each and then have some sort of device whereby another bomb cannot be used. Besides if all battle were like the mirror battle then all of the heroes hiding in holes whimpering. Quote

Sandy Posted November 5, 2011 Author Posted November 5, 2011 Where are these Extended Classes? Nowhere, yet. I've only posted pictures of some of them into this topic. You'll get the full list with all the details once someone hits Level 15. I hope this is the last time I have to answer this question, though... Quote

Tempting, but I'm not sure if I want to play a Mage- or Cleric-Ranger advanced class. I feel like this must have been asked before, but SP can be upgraded the same way as WP, right? Quote
Sandy Posted November 5, 2011 Author Posted November 5, 2011 I feel like this must have been asked before, but SP can be upgraded the same way as WP, right? Yes, shields can be upgraded at the blacksmith's. I'd rather not allow upgrading cloaks or other accessories that give SP, though, since it's unrealistic that a smith could increase their power. I was unaware a bomb would kill all of them... that's why I decided to put 20 enemies with 1 health... so if the adventurers want a fun challenge, perhaps they just wont use them? Okay, sorry for being so harsh. I know how hard it is to plan these quests while taking everything into consideration - even though I made up most of the rules myself - but on the other hand you yourself said you added this battle to give the party more levels, so I perhaps misunderstood your motives. In my thinking levels should be earned, not handed out. Quote

In a way, it was handing out, as everyone wanted to see the Extended Classes, though I completely forgot my party had bombs to blow up every single zombie... so I thought it would be kind of tough for them. Bricksandparts Posted November 5, 2011 Posted November 5, 2011 I don't mean to be rude, but how is Capt.JohnPaul able to QM if he has never even participated in a quest? Quote
Sandy Posted November 5, 2011 Author Posted November 5, 2011 I don't mean to be rude, but how is Capt.JohnPaul able to QM if he has never even participated in a quest? He discarded his first character, Signor Bacari, after participating in a quest. I still don't understand why he did it, really, but it was his choice. Quote

soccerkid6 Posted November 5, 2011 Posted November 5, 2011 WBD If I borrowed 40 gold from Gurnam, I would owe him 52 correct? Just want to make sure I did it right. Quote
CorneliusMurdock Posted November 5, 2011 Posted November 5, 2011 Sandy, you said the healing staff is treated like an attack on an ally, right? What happens if damage or special damage is rolled? Does the ally attack the one wielding the staff? Quote

Peanuts Posted November 5, 2011 Posted November 5, 2011 (edited) While some people are suggesting general rules about races, or weapons strong against races, I don't like that idea. I think it's okay if it's done in certain quests by the QM, but not in the whole game, as a nice aspect of the game is the fact the QMs have much freedom designing their quests, so that we get along with few general rules, but some rules and mechanics special to quests. I think it would confuse QM if we introduce more rules about races, and honestly, polyjuice for people changing races!? Just imagine Cronk being a human, or Thotwick being an Elf, or Boomer being an Orc! Sorry, but I really think that'd go a bit too far. While I'm usually all in favor of overly complicated, bewildering or pointless rules concering every part of real life, I don't think we should make them up in Heroica. legobodgers Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 Capt.JohnPaul, do you think that the quest will be over before Elphaba leaves? Quote
Fred Daniel Yam Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 Sheesh WBD, your quest has a lot of questioning. Quote
Waterbrick Down Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 (edited) It's the balance between letting you all figure things out via real world questioning or laying everything out for you and rail-roading you onto a certain path which I sort of am anyways, but the illusion of control is more comforting than just knowing you are all pawns of the QM's story. legobodgers Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 I was just reading through the library topic and notices that all of the heroes would receive an upgrade to their weaponry. Quest #7: The Arena Quest Master: Zepher Assignment: "We are looking for powerful champions. We regret to inform you that you will have to turn in all your current items and weapons, but we will supply you with replacements and everything will be returned to you at the end of the quest. We will also be offering up a Cleric’s assistance if you need to be returned to fighting form! I cannot begin to tell you how many people are counting on you." ~ Draconius Draco Party Requirements: "I need 8 fighters, but no clerics or mages please. Magic users are a bore. I would prefer if at least three of the eight are level five or above." Reward: Every single champion will be given an upgrade of weaponry. Gold will also be offered, though the amount depends on the champions’ performance. Participants: ~ Cronk, Level 6 Knight (CorneliusMurdock) *Party Leader* ~ Bartholomew Docken, Level 6 Ranger (Brickdoctor) ~ Eric, Level 7 Barbarian (Khorne) ~ Sir Christopher Daggerfall, Level 6 Knight (Fred Fred Burger) ~ Jess Islanti, Level 6 Rogue (cralegoboy) ~ Hybros, Level 7 Rogue (JimButcher) ~ Henry Sicariul, Level 1 Rogue (Peanuts) ~ Thothwick, Level 1 Rogue (Professor Flitwick) Was this the weapons that they were given at the start and allowed to keep or have you forgotten?Great quest by the way, I have enjoyed following it. The storyline was good and there was a good balance of battles and puzzles. I am sure that your next quest will be even better. Quote
soccerkid6 Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 (edited) WBD did you miss this post,I would also like you to put a hollow blade on my sword. Here is your 50 gold. Or are you just not mentioning it? Or should I just put it in my inventory anyway? CallmePie How did you know it was the gray plague? Edited November 6, 2011 by soccerkid6 Quote
