Pandora Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 No, silly, mages are more like bazookas on tricycles. Wonderful mental imagery there! Quote
Brickdoctor Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 Actually, what would the value of Adamantite be? Mythril and its +10 P is usually worth 1000-1200 Gold. If the increase in price is proportionate to the increase in P, then Adamantite would would be worth 2500-3000 Gold (625-750 per shard). But considering that this is a new item and one that'll probably never be found as a whole piece, and if it becomes a sort of trophy item due to nobody ever finding all four shards as Flare said, then I think players will pay more for it (Assuming there is someone interested in buying it, of course.). Brickdoctor Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 Oh, ha ha, pretending that statement isn't referring to you. Unless someone takes my offer to sell my Mythril Shield, I'm not that interested in Adamantite. It's going to be a while before enough of them are found to make an impact, and I don't have the Gold to buy Adamantite Shards for what I expect the price to be, let alone upgrade a second shield to the SP: 25 or so that I'd want it at before applying the Adamantite. Sandy Posted April 12, 2013 Author Posted April 12, 2013 You asked for her, and she's back! Umbra Shadeaux makes an appearance for the first time since Quest #2. Woohoo! Great job portraying her, JimBee. Quote

Scubacarrot Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 Guts already smashed up a chest in Quest 52, he wasn't very good at it then. Quote
Rumble Strike Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 Makes you wonder if there would be a market for lockpicks as consumable items. Quote
Scubacarrot Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 Probably too situational. There was a thing like the magical key that opens stuff, right? I can also see it being a Job Trait for an Expert Class. Quote
The Legonater Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 Well, I know rogues used to be able to get through locks as a job class. Quote
CMP Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 Well, I know rogues used to be able to get through locks as a job class. Bah. Lockpicking is an art, not a job trait. Takes years of practice to become a true master. ...Alternatively, you can imply you've had years of practice and are in fact a true master. Quote
JimBee Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 Woohoo! Great job portraying her, JimBee. Thanks! It does take quite a bit of time to get her accent right and make sure that the post follows it, but I'm glad I could use her for the quest. Quote
posades Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 I guess I'm one of the weird ones that enjoys combat/loot more than the actual story. That's probably why I love dungeon crawlers so much, the thought of pressing onwards and getting more powerful level-wise and unique items appeals to me for some odd reason. And on a non-game related note, that's also why I enjoy movies like the new G.I. Joe, lots of action yet a convoluted/dumb story. And (good) role playing takes time, something that's in short supply for me these days. Quote

Flipz Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 Jeez, I can't remember the last time I've felt safe enough to fight from the front row...I blame Zepher. Yeah...it seems like QMs these days try to kill via straight-out "if you get hit, you die" rather than "Death by a Thousand Cuts". Quote
Waterbrick Down Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 Yeah...it seems like QMs these days try to kill via straight-out "if you get hit, you die" rather than "Death by a Thousand Cuts". The issue though is if you want to kill by "a Thousand Cuts" your enemies need to last long enough to deliver those thousand cuts, which means you have to boost their health up to large amounts which ends up dragging out the battle. I generally aim to have a difficult enemy capable of defeating a hero in 2 hits, a medium enemy in 3-4 hits, and minions 4-5. Quote

Out of curiosity, how do you deal with the discrepancies between Hero HP? Do you calculate for the highest HP Heroes (like a lot of QMs these days seem to do), the lowest HP Heroes, an average of all the Heroes' HP, or do you have a few "nemesis" enemies for each Hero HP and level range (sort of like what Sandy did in Q44 or CJP did in his latest Quest)? Some day I'm going to sit down and do a conclusive mathematical analysis of exactly how much longer each point of SP causes a battle to last versus how much longer each point of HP causes a battle to last. Then I'm going to construct that "magic ratio" so that all of my enemies flawlessly control how long it takes the Heroes to defeat them*. *This is probably never going to happen. =P Edited April 14, 2013 by Flipz Quote
JimBee Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 Eh, JimB did just fine with crazy SP. And that took way too long. The problem with RPGs like this one that take a full day to update rather than a few seconds like video games, is we don't have the patience of things like Death by A Thousand Cuts. And it wasn't "crazy" SP, Scuba had SP:30 enemies in Quest 40. Although that party was a lot more offense based than the one of 59. Quote
Flare Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 Alright Sandy, lets see how tough this obsidian dragon of yours is! Its probably endgame-level difficulty, but that remains to be seen. Sorry for the delay 57ers, the last part of the quest will be up as soon as I get pictures taken! Quote

A QM like Pie or Endgame could probably have gotten away with that battle much quicker (no offense), just because of the time they have available to dedicate to Heroica--assuming, of course, they had very active players and/or everyone was willing to follow Party Leader orders, the way Quest 48 is run. I'm sure that if Quest 48 was only ever updated once a day, the party would barely be past Aquos. It's just different playstyles. TL;DR, the more active the players and QM are, the higher the SP:player Power ratio can safely be. Quote
Flare Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 No surprise that the Dragon's insanely dangerous special was named after me! Quote
Scubacarrot Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 Honestly, Obsidian Dragon, not that tough. Quote
