swils Posted November 12, 2011 Posted November 12, 2011 But mostly I need to get my share of the 2000 gold to pay off my debt to Tomas and a certain barbarian. I'd almost forgotten about the reward money. That would be a nice bit of wallet-padding. Quote
Darth Nihilus Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 Rumble Strike, I made my character use his half-elf powers in the Quest. Is that acceptable? Quote
Rumble Strike Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 It is certainly acceptable to try ;) Quote
Darth Nihilus Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 (edited) Thanks for clarifying, Rumble Strike. I won't turn it into a 'digging Althior'-type thing though. I promise. Edited November 13, 2011 by darthnihilius Quote
Rumble Strike Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 Hah, nice reference Just because it didn't work this time doesn't mean it won't work in the future. It was a good idea and worth trying. Quote

JimBee Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 A few questions pertaining to game mechanics: This might have a fairly obvious answer, but I don't think it's ever happened in the game yet, so... How is a bone used? Does it prevent any free hits, damage, and special damage from one enemy for one turn? Does the user get it back after the battle? Also, if a user of a throwing weapon is hit with damage or special damage, do they have to retrieve the weapon afterwards? I would assume not, because they never would have thrown the weapon, right? Can meads, nostrums, and smelling salts be used at the same time? So if I used all three, I could attack twice in one turn, and have lucky and encouraged effects for both attacks? When "lucky", wouldn't the "better roll" be subjective? For example, a Cleric might want a Hit instead of a Miracle. Or in Jeb's quest, where the party may want special damage (heals Haldor) instead of a Hit. Would the host decide these things? Quote
TheBoyWonder Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 If we kill The Elves, and The Hinckwells are responsible, do we not get the rewards? If so, this is the most evil quest so far. Quote

Or in Jeb's quest, where the party may want special damage (heals Haldor) instead of a Hit. Would the host decide these things? Thanks for the questions! 1. I think I've answered this before, but bones distract an enemy for one turn. For example, if Player A throws a bone at the monster, then Player B attacks it, the monster cannot cause damage to the player. Or if nobody else targets the monster, it will not use a Free Hit. The item is admittedly not very useful, but there might be situations where it can be used cleverly. If for example Player A with the bone cannot damage the monster because of a wrong element in their weapon, and other party members are preoccupied with other enemies, they can prevent a Free Hit from the monster by throwing the bone. 2. If the player who uses a throwing weapon does not score a hit, the weapon will not have left their hand and thus it doesn't have to be retrieved. 3. Yes, the effects can be stacked, of course. 4. No, the "better rolls" are not subjective, just to keep things simple. Rolling a Shield is always considered better than a Critical Hit, which is better than a Hit, which comes before a Miss, which surpasses a Damage, and a Special Damage is only used if both of the rolls result in it. Tanma Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 You'll get something even if you choose the wrong person, it just might not be as great a reward. please let even the worse reward be money, De'kra is still in debt. Quote
JimBee Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 Ah, okay thanks Sandy. 1. I think I've answered this before, but bones distract an enemy for one turn. If for example Player A with the bone cannot damage the monster because of a wrong element in their weapon, and other party members are preoccupied with other enemies, they can prevent a Free Hit from the monster by throwing the bone. So one turn, in this instance, means one instance of action. If Player A threw the bone at the monster, then Player B and Player C both rolled damage, only C would actually take damage? 2. If the player who uses a throwing weapon does not score a hit, the weapon will not have left their hand and thus it doesn't have to be retrieved. But if they miss, technically they would have thrown the weapon. Hybros had to retrieve his shuriken twice after missing in Quest 7, which I would assume is correct? Quote

swils Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 Hey doc, I knew I wasn't loony when I asked about the party's stats before, I just couldn't remember/figure out why. I just read the QM Lounge thread, and was reminded: Barbarians gain health back after each battle, equal to their level. So I think I should be at 17/17 instead of 15/17. Might make all the difference, what with the enemies being able to deal 15 damage on a hit, heh. Quote

swils Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 Ah, yes. I'll go fix that. Thank ya kindly. You know what would be miserable? A series of unfortunate dice rolls wherein we all roll damage. Can you say "-60DKP!"? Just a little thought I had, looking at the enemy damage vs party health Quote

Darth Nihilus Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 Sorry for getting in your way Scubacarrot, just establishing Dak's character. He sort of is the Knight-type Rogue, who goes by the rules (most of the time ), and right now, the rule is not to hurt this guy. Just making sure no one's offended by what I just did in the Quest. Rumble Strike Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 Dak, it's fine, I wanted to cause a bit of discord within the party Hope you're all enjoying it so far. Quote

Chromeknight Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 Dak, it's fine, I wanted to cause a bit of discord within the party Hope you're all enjoying it so far. I hate puzzles! It's not a puzzle. It's a roleplaying scene. And the thing about those is there is no wrong way to do them. Because there's no rules, no dice roll and certainly no 'correct' answer, we keep going until we find something we think is a clue and run with it. At least that's my understanding. And as for an elf acting superior? what else would you expect.... Quote
