I would like to share an idea! After reading all the complaints about loot and gold rewards I was thinking on something else that can be awarded as kudos over other value to players.

While titles are availiable in the fields of glory and are certainly quite the prize, it would cheapen the achievement if they were to become widespread in other quests. So I though:

How about Arms?

Some of you might know, I have a great interest in historic armour and weaponry, this led to Heraldic Tradition. The coat of arms that many ancient names have collected. The varied features of an arms all have meanings. While some were created by a family entitled to an arms and others stacked up on features through cadencey others have features awarded by kings or lords for acts of valour.

It occured to me that many a player could enjoy earning a reward of arms even if they do not carry a shield it can be held in the Heroica College of Arms (College of Arms is a real thing, don't you know) by A King of Arms and have the blazon (the official discription of the arms) and be built up over time and through quests. Tinctures, furs, ordinaries and charges can be handed out according to actions either as a reward in quest by the employer or by the King of Arms to a hero (nominated for doing something pretty awesome in a quest. Roleplaying or in battle).

What do you guys think?

How would it work? Would it be something made out of photoshop or something? I'm not sure I understand the idea.

Well, yeah. Photoshop and a thread in the forum. I make arms as a hobby (from what looks cool to obeying all the rules) and it is really easy. Each player awarded some would have an entry in the specific thread, (like the statistics thread) and as they earn new features those would be added to the image and the text discription.

You'll have to be more specific in the question if the above doesn't explain it enough...

I actually like the idea, but extend it to trophies. That Blue Rose from 48 could easily make a trophy, and so could many other items. Troll hides, dragon head mounts and what not. There's my two cents.

Okay, I think I got it then. It's a fun idea, and I'm all for cosmetic rewards... but. I would love it if someone has the tools and/or means to print them out on shields or something, but somehow I don't think this would be very easy to do considering the detail of such things, and if it's just going to be a thread in the forum, I'm not sure if people would bother... I like the idea, and I would like to earn one for Guts, but it's just going to be a picture in a thread, I don't think it will ever make an appearance in the actual game, which seems like it would be a shame.

That is physical stuff though, in an MMORPG I guess you can rent rooms and even own a building to show off all the nifty-but-useless rewards but in heroica we need a catch all thread for something like that or have hefty inventories full of unusable stuff (over what loot we are yet to ditch). I though awarded arms woudl work in that even if you do not carry a shield the information would be in the "hall" as a structure (like the library

You'd be amazed what a vectorised image can do. That though would make a problem with those classes that do not have shields though.

I was thinking it along the lines of the online gaming "achievements" a glob of pixels and a "trophy name" on a profile page isn't the most useful of rewards or even that rewarding when you come to think of it, but people still like to get achievements.

That and Hats, unless TF2 hats do more than look spiffy.

Banners, capes, armours? Could all work, right? For example, if these were going to be a thing, I would love to have one on Guts' ship as a flag or perhaps even on the sails. (I'm working on a Moc of the ship, need more parts,)

Achievements are a good thing in games, it gives people something to do and I think most people at least smile when they see them pop up. I think you can have a lot of things tied into this in the heroica world, as an optional thing. Perhaps the Coat of Arms could inspire people to do things more for the sake of roleplaying, or perhaps inspire unusual tactics in battle for certain things. It might even give on of the currently mostly useless veterans something to do!

I'm all for your idea, hope it becomes a thing!

Oh, you can make all kinds of changes to put an arms to a flag/banner/cape. In the end you'd only need a picture editing programme and a printer. The image would be held online for all to see and download and there are plenty of examples online on how to change it.

So, Sandy? Guys? Whatcha think?

Yeah, but it makes pretty seamless basic building block images and a fair chunk of the traditional heraldic iconography is in the pre-loaded shape files. :shrug_oh_well:

When I get home I can load up some of the arms I made for play.

Is it consumed?

I was under the impression that it persisted, but was only useable once per Quest.

No. Once I had one too. Its consumnable. It disappears once you use it.
