Dannylonglegs Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 (edited) Alright. There we have it. Darling you've got to let me know? Will she stay or will she go!? That's right! It's time for Fight or Flight! It's not impossible, but the odds are definitely against you. I warned you from the start that if you took more than 2 or 3 optional battles, odds were that you'd miss her, so I'm not going easy on you just because you used up all your consumables. So, you've got two rounds unless you kill those poor dock workers. (or that Aquamancer) You can still chat her up if you miss her though. It's not going to be anticlimactic. Also, It was a total bitch to compile all those pictures. If I never have to use photoshop again, I'll be a happy man. Unfortunately, I still have to use photoshop for this quest. There are just certain things that paint+powerpoint can't do. Not many, but certain things. ~Insectoid Aristocrat Edited May 3, 2013 by Dannylonglegs Quote
Sandy Posted May 3, 2013 Author Posted May 3, 2013 Oh, you can make all kinds of changes to put an arms to a flag/banner/cape. In the end you'd only need a picture editing programme and a printer. The image would be held online for all to see and download and there are plenty of examples online on how to change it. So, Sandy? Guys? Whatcha think? I'm not entirely opposed to the idea, but I personally would rather spend my time as a host to something else than crafting heraldry to players. A system like this would require a long-term dedication, and for a purely cosmetic reward it sounds like an awful lot of work. I also don't understand how they could replace loot as a reward, unless monsters start dropping pieces of heraldry after the battles... So Peppy, are you volunteering on making these "banners" for all the players, then? Let me see what you mean in practice before I make my decision. Quote

All but three of my photos were done there. It can't do rain or fire though, due to lack of a transparency feature on pictures. ~Insectoid Aristocrat Quote
Dannylonglegs Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 (edited) Gimp. > Photoshop How does Gimp even work. I tried it and wanted to shoot myself in the foot. I renamed the icon Smoking Dog. ~Insectoid Aristocrat Edited May 3, 2013 by Dannylonglegs Quote
Flipz Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 I may be overthinking things, but that was a hard Round to plan. I'm happy I was able to do my final two actions WITHOUT having to make conditional actions that were four layers deep. Quote

Waterbrick Down Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 I've just started using Gimp, since I don't want to cough up the money for Photoshop, and I'm liking it thus far. It's not the most user friendly program in the world, but with time I can see it being very useful. Quote
Flipz Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 (edited) Also, we see now how I'm basically the only gold-earning Rogue AC in the game who manages not to roll SHIELD after SHIELD while Lucky. So frustrating! Edited May 3, 2013 by Flipz Quote
CMP Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 (edited) I've been using MS Word 2010. Dead serious. Can't do anything as nearly as fancy as Photoshop, but it works. Edited May 3, 2013 by CallMePie Quote
Masked Builder Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 Yeah. GIMP has a huge learning curve, but once you get over it it works just as well as photoshop. Youtube tutorials are also helpful. Quote
Dannylonglegs Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 I'm sorry I'm not updating really fast, 62ers. for once I'm too busy to update. ~Insectoid Aristocrat Quote
Cutcobra Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 I actually like the idea, but extend it to trophies. That Blue Rose from 48 could easily make a trophy, and so could many other items. Troll hides, dragon head mounts and what not. There's my two cents. Karie's mask . Quote

Youtube tutorials are also helpful. Yeah, I tried it a couple years ago, and I started clicking stuff, and I said, "MegaBloks, I'm just going to use Paint.NET". I've had Photoshop CS5 Extended for I think two years, now, and that was pretty tough to learn compared to Paint.NET, too*. I've gone back and tried out GIMP a couple times, and it seems easier now that I know how to use Photoshop. *I think it took me about a week just to figure out that Cmd+Z and Cmd+Shift+Z perform two different undo functions in Photoshop. Endgame Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 Paint.net user here, lovely program. While we're on the subject of achievements... the only achievement I think you should get that falls into the "unavoidable" category should be "complete the game/quest/campaign/whatever." Any other unavoidable achievements are, in my mind, useless. Here is a an achievement list I'd use for 48, in terms of the PS3's trophy system: A Legend - Platinum Collect every other trophy in the quest. Blue Rose - Gold Complete the quest! Extra Extra Extra Critical Hit - Silver Do over 170 damage in one attack. Addiction - Bronze Start every fight with a positive effect. Stand Your Ground - Bronze Clear a fight without any knockouts. Speak Clearly And Carry A Small Sword - Silver Convince 5 different enemies to leave a battle. Pocket Change - Bronze Accumulate 200 gold. Buy yourself a candy bar. Good Sum - Bronze Accumulate 400 gold. Not bad, but you could do a whole lot better. Small Fortune - Bronze Accumulate 800 gold. Respectable. Treasure Horde - Silver Accumulate 1750 gold. Feeling the gold fever? Just Take A Scrooge Dive Already - Gold Accumulate 4,000 gold. This is getting a bit out of hand, wouldn't you agree? Divine Blunder - Bronze Point out a QM's mistake. Why is this a trophy? Sick As A Progg - Bronze Inflict 6 different negative effects on one target. Speedrunning Tactics - Bronze Clear a battle in 5 rounds or less. Spider's Blessing - Silver Complete the Murkwood sidequest. Gotta Catch Em' All... - Hidden Trophy (Bronze) Discover one rare Progg. Proggemon!! Hidden Trophy (Gold) Discover all of the rare Proggs. Sober - Bronze Go two entire battles without using a Mead, Nostrum, or Smelling Salts. Oxygenarion - Bronze Go one entire battle without a consumable being used by you or used on you. Dare Devil - Silver Survive an entire battle with a Trial Brew still in your bloodstream. Totally and Absolutely Megablucking Insane - Gold Survive an entire boss battle with a Trial Brew still in your bloodstream. Epilogue will be up soonish, 48ers! definitely by the end of tonight, then the quest will be done for good. At that point I'll go through the rest of my notes on 48. Quote
Peppermint_M Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 I have elements, perfectly useful for this. Yes Sandy, it is a contribution I can make. While the beastiary overwhelmed me quickly and soon was well past what I had intended and the NPC index the same ( you guys go too quick!) I love making arms and such. Is the sort of thing I am talking about. I made this as a little personal one when I was copying some I drew in school art classes. I chose the colour and charges and arranged them as well to the "rules" of Welsh/English heraldic tradition. While I can't get my head around hosting and get in too deep with something everyone is piling into... As King of Arms I can easily reward the odd member after a quest. Quote
CMP Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 The arms thing seems pretty interesting. I think titles suffice for now, but they'd be cool to have nonetheless. "'Marc the Mad'? Whatever ya' wanna call him, mate...." Kind of serious here, I don't think he bothered to even introduce himself before he attacked, and the alchemists didn't know his name. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 The arms thing seems pretty interesting. I think titles suffice for now, but they'd be cool to have nonetheless. I'd rather not see titles become common rewards for all quests; they should only be awarded to heroes completing a finale quest or defeating a major boss, in my opinion. The arms are a very cool idea - I can imagine a topic where players build an MOC of the room they live in when not questing and have all their achievement trophies and arms and the like displayed. (Can we keep the arms shaped like LEGO shields, though?) Quote

(Can we keep the arms shaped like LEGO shields, though?) Sure, if someone has a vector of the shield template I can use that right off the bat. But I was proposing keeping the arms in a roll of them wihtin a thread, a MOC of a room would be nice but some of the parts one needs to equip it would be costly or hard-to-find Quote
joeshmoe554 Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 *I think it took me about a week just to figure out that Cmd+Z and Cmd+Shift+Z perform two different undo functions in Photoshop. There's your problem, you should really be using Ctrl+Z for undo, and a keyboard with a Ctrl button, and an Operating system that uses a Ctrl button. I use GIMP at work since they have so far refused my request for Photoshop every year. The program works pretty well and there are a couple features that work better than Photoshop, but for the most part I still vastly prefer Photoshop for my image editing. Quote
Endgame Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 Man that was one heckuva an epilogue! So, yes, both the Proggs and Punii are relocating to Eubric... and Punii is getting to pursue his career! You certainly earned your happy ending, heroes. Quote

You certainly earned your happy ending, heroes. Agreed, it always warms my heart when we get victories like this. When a saga concludes, and despite all the obstacles everything works out? I actually thought of this trope when reading the epilogue. Congrats to everyone on quest 48, and good to see you left a real impact. Speaking of endings, why won't this parasite die?
