Dannylonglegs Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 (edited) Random Question of the Random Time Period! What one or two tropes best represent your character? How about your (or others') NPCs? For the time being, I can summarize it as Mysterious Stranger, and the Medic. Eventually more of Sylph's past will come-up, but for now, I think that about settles it. For My NPCs? I'm actually planning on compiling a few in my post analysis, but I can do a few here. Marty: Hot Guys are Bastards, and The Informant (his Sin from the 7 is Pride) (Wrong Genre Savvy: he thought he was the Knowledge Broker) The Po Brothers: Those Two Bad Guys, Psychos for Hire (although they do have redeemable traits), Affably Evil, mildly Red Al and Blue Ed, but certainly Birds of a Feather Fleur, Ave, Abe Beyland/Hinckwell: Three Aliases, One Character (And as a result...), Pyrrhic Villainy, and at least in my opinion, she's a Tragic Villain who became Unfettered due to her Dark and Troubled Past and when it turned out that Rumours of Dice's Death were Greatly Exagerated and she saw his Travelling Companion Yoro, she began her Start of Darkness. (Greed, Wrath, and Envy) The Arsonist: Giant Space Flea from Nowhere, not to mention, a Pyromaniac and Axe Crazy to boot. Also: I'm a Grand Duke!!! ~Insectoid Aristocrat Edited May 15, 2013 by Dannylonglegs Quote
The Legonater Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 Well now that it's up, I might as well help with the troping. Quote
Tanma Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 Speaking of which, there are several characters I'm having trouble finding tropes for, so: Random Question of the Random Time Period! What one or two tropes best represent your character? How about your (or others') NPCs? (I'm primarily looking for tropes that give unfamiliar readers a quick concept of the character at a glance, so for example: [[GentlemanRogue Thothwick]] exhibited this trope in Quest 14, when he..." Or, as the current page shows, "Amazon Chaser: Dogged Nice Guy Tarn Valco was this to Action Girl Tensi Hightribe early on." Speaking of Tarn, I do need a better trope for him, that one won't work everywhere.) Not really sure for De'kra, at least that aren't spoilers. I suppose if I spent enough time I could think of two, Erdrich Abomination (implied) and Identity Ambesia are the ones that immediately comes to mind, but he also has socialist tendencies and does not really understand love, so I don't know. There is also another branch of tropes that apply, but spoilers. Fun fact, De'kra was created to die, he just isn't ready yet. Quote
The Legonater Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 For Dyric, probably Getleman Thief, and the Exile, though there's certainly more than that. I think in general most heroes will fall into several tropes. We'll need a pretty big character sheet... Quote
Scorpiox Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 (edited) Random Question of the Random Time Period! What one or two tropes best represent your character? How about your (or others') NPCs? Perhaps this one to a fair degree, but also this, a lot. Edited May 15, 2013 by Scorpiox Quote
Waterbrick Down Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 I'd say Skrall is probably a subverted one of these who turned into one of these and is currently a little of this. Quote
Pandora Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 I keep meaning to answer these "question of the whatever"s, so I'm going to answer this now before I forget. Nyx started out 50:50 this and this, but as time has progressed (and as she became a Battle Mage), she's kind of evolved more into this with a huge overlap of this. Or at least that's what I've been aiming for, anyway. She was always meant to "Badass Adorable" but in a magicky way, and she's probably a good mishmash of all 4 tropes by now. Quote
Sandy Posted May 15, 2013 Author Posted May 15, 2013 I'm sorry for my absence yesterday, I had a helluva busy day. I only got online time like half an hour... Is that a Jade Lamp of Summoning? They're definitely supposed to be one-use. I used the Armoury-topic as a reference when creating the Jade Lamp of Summoning, and I don't remember the descriptions there saying that the lamps were consumable... The Jade Lamp definitely isn't. It's just an expensive but sure way to heal someone, though. Quote
Pyrovisionary Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 Sarge is just... Well, Sarge. I don't frequent Tv Tropes so I'll leave it up to opinion. Cmon Obelix! This battle aint meant to be won! Quote
Brickdoctor Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 I used the Armoury-topic as a reference when creating the Jade Lamp of Summoning, and I don't remember the descriptions there saying that the lamps were consumable... The lamps were first introduced as the Jinns by WBD, right? I thought those were one-shot summons. Quote
PsyKater Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 QM Note: Tesni's Bear Gloves give extra WP - its the only artifact known to do so. Good luck trying to remember to take that into account every time she rolls Extra Critical Damage. Ranger's Quiver is WP+ as well. Just like the removable bolts Nessa has. Quote
Flipz Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 The lamps were first introduced as the Jinns by WBD, right? I thought those were one-shot summons. They are, though as a side note I have a feeling said summons might be in need of a stat buff, just like Edgar. That's the problem with non-Evoker summons: they are EXTREMELY succeptible to power creep. Sandy's original solution (Evoker summons having Power equal to the Evoker's level + Skeleton Decoys being Skeleton Decoys and having Advanced versions available) is really elegant. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 Ranger's Quiver is WP+ as well. Just like the removable bolts Nessa has. And the Robe of the Pongcanis Champion originally was +1 WP in the Front Row, too, if I remember correctly. Oops. (But it's sitting in Fabian's shop and nobody seems to want it, so it doesn't matter if it's a Power boost instead. ) Quote
Sandy Posted May 15, 2013 Author Posted May 15, 2013 Ranger's Quiver is WP+ as well. Just like the removable bolts Nessa has. Haha! Totally forgot the quivers I created MYSELF! Quote
Brickdoctor Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 "Oh! [How are you doing, little fellow? What's that you're holding there? Can I see it?]" Take it! You're the only one with Animal Talk, but take Sylvania's Cowl anyways, then refuse to use Animal Talk and sell the Cowl to Tesni for a ton of Gold! Quote

Sandy's original solution (Evoker summons having Power equal to the Evoker's level + Skeleton Decoys being Skeleton Decoys and having Advanced versions available) is really elegant. The lamps were designed to be a one shot summon, basically a pairing of an elemental bomb and a skeleton decoy. Unfortunately, just like bombs, they are indeed very prone to be outclassed by power creep. Quote
Rumble Strike Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 Power creep is when heroes and enemies keep getting stronger but stuff like bombs don't. Quote
Peppermint_M Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 So, I don't know what Tesni tropes as. She just happens when I write Quote
Scubacarrot Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 Tropes are a natural occurring thing, that's why they are a thing. I don't think anyone goes, hmm, I want that in my character. Quote

Sandy Posted May 15, 2013 Author Posted May 15, 2013 Welcome to the game, Tea_Drinker! Your character profile has now been added to the Heroes' Gallery on the first page of the Heroica Hall topic. If I'm not mistaken, your character is the first clearly underaged human to join Heroica, being 12 years old. I guess you can expect a lot of pampering for your character on your upcoming quests. Scubacarrot Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 Are you sure? "Hmm, I definitely want my character to be the Stone Wall. " Would be funny if you played an actual stone wall. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 Would be funny if you played an actual stone wall. If you come on my next quest (when I get around to hosting it), I'll make one of the enemies a statue of Docken the Stone Wall; 5000 HP, 100 SP, Immune to all Effects, and Level 1. Drops 2 Gold. Quote
Endgame Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 That is basically the Mythrogg's stats (if the heroes were stupid enough to fight him. ), Brickdoctor. Just quadruple both the HP and the SP, and multiply 1 by 99. Quote
