The lamps were designed to be a one shot summon, basically a pairing of an elemental bomb and a skeleton decoy. Unfortunately, just like bombs, they are indeed very prone to be outclassed by power creep.

Can you make mine a permanent once per battle use and keep its stats as is? I won't mind.

I wouldn't be opposed to it, but I'd be interested in hearing peoples thoughts on consumable summons, whether or not they are too underpowered or not currently.

I kinda think they would be overpowered in a reusable once per battle state. Takes some of the magic out of Evokers. :shrug_confused: Maybe a once per Quest item?

I think they're fine as they are. The Jade Lamp of Summoning (Mediq) is fine to be permanent, because all it does is heal at a moderate ether cost. The battle lamps, on the other hand, I think should be consumable. They're not that powerful either, but they could be lifesavers (like we saw in Quest 53). I just think it would be OP if they could be used in every battle.

Agreed. For the sake of offering an alternative, perhaps they could also come at an Ether cost, but really I prefer them as consumables. :shrug_confused:

How do QMs take the avatar pictures for NPCs?

I only just finished and uploaded the last of mine, and it is an amazingly tedious process. I line them all up on a brick-built rig in front of a piece of paper, eight to a dozen figs in each shot, and then have to go through and snip a perfect square for each of their profiles, sharpen/brighten it, and add an outline. It takes around three minutes for each one, more if there's manual editing work to do, so in total I've spent around two hours on them alone. Is this normal? Is there some trick I'm missing to it? Do I just have too damn many NPCs?

Taking and editing photos take eons for me. With or without Photoshop. :hmpf_bad: It's my least favorite part of hosting.

With that argument, might as well strip SP from all classes that can't use shields. Right Cornelius? heh heh

Knights usually have twice as much SP as a result of their shields, though.

I'm just saying, having two characters to fight with at absolutely no loss other than one turn for using the lamp is overpowered.

Set one up in front of a white background, one picture per minifig. Select a square and crop in Photoshop, adjust the color in Curves, select the background with the wand, increase the selection by a pixel or so, feather it, delete the background, resize it, save it, done. Takes about five minutes per avatar. I could add a border as simply as Cmd+A, Select>Border, Edit>Fill, but I prefer the transparent background with no outline. (Although since the last time I've done a quest, the board has been changed and the background is now white anyways, so...)

I tend to use Picasa for my NPC's. Take a photo on a white background. Brighten up the lighting. Use a square crop and add a border. I'm probably at about 5 minutes each photo.

Yeah, no way should they be once per quest, that would be majorly OP. And I have one. AND have considered making my secondary character a "Djinn Mage".

They should be consumables. If people want to see more, than tell the QMs, and they'll probably drop more. WBD just added another one, and my current quest will have two, because they're an item I like.

They wouldn't have to be if they were considered more common drops, similar to bombs.

Holy cow, those are a PERFECT "upgrade" from bombs (well, aside from Cannoneer), I can't believe I didn't realize that!

This must become an Expert Class.

They're genies, so maybe they could be used three times in total, as in the three wishes?

I wouldn't mind changing the Jade Lamp to be used only three times, as well, to keep it consistent with the others.

I take a photo for each of them separately, open them in Photoshop, then crop them with the help of the marque tool set on a "fixed ratio" of 100x100 pixels, then resizing, brightening and adding a "stroke" of 1 pixel wide from the "layer style" menu. Takes me fifteen seconds.

That's perfect.

Oh, I actually also don't mind Mediq being a permanent separate deal, but that's up to everyone else! It costs a fair amount of ether, but is a sure heal. :shrug_oh_well:

Atramor grumbled at the news they'd be riding horses all the way to Bric'lin. They invented boats for a reason.

Is this a reference to something I missed? :look: Bric'lin is landlocked and has no nearby rivers.
