Arthur tears himself out of his mental reverie; Harkenshire's unexpected expertise in his father's craft had sparked ideas aplenty in his mind. If he could master this new technique, and combine it with the dimentional positioning and anchoring that had been honed through the generations, his House had a fair shot at--but he mustn't think of such things. He couldn't. He had no house, he reminded himself, he was alone in the world--except for his fellow Heroes. That's when he notices the messenger.

Arthur walks to the Quest board. He sees Atramor's name on the list for Quest 30. Damn! he thought, I really hoped he'd join me instead. He looks into his pack, at the lone unbound journal remaining there. Then he spots his Amethyst. An irrational surge of anger washed over him, and the violet gem flared, incinerating the book with its dark power. Arthur wrested a grim satisfaction from the destruction. There was more than one way to keep in touch--and he knew just who to speak to.

Arthur walked back into the Hall proper, murmuring congratulations to the Heroes chosen, and taking an extra moment to wish Harkenshire and Atramor good luck. Waiting until Atramor was distracted, he sat next to McCafferey and sent a tiny shadow bolt into the countertop to gain the chicken's attention.

"McCafferey. Listen. Atramor was chosen for a different Quest than me. I...there's a likelihood we'll end up fighting. I want you to keep an eye on him. Make sure that he lives, at least until we are forced to do battle. He's a great man, one of the few beings in this world who are both good friends and worthy allies. If he has to fall by any hand, it should be that of a worthy adversary--or, fialing that, mine. I forsee great power, and great devastation in his path. Guide him. Bring word to me, if you can--though I do not know if that would be possible. Above all--if by any means you can coerce him to take my side--do it. I do not wish to lose such a valuable ally from this world."

As he stared the "chicken" down, it saw a light purple tinge to his eyes--one that disappeared almost as quickly as it came. All at once, there was nothing different about Arthur--and yet everything had changed. There was...potential. Arthur had the sudden urge to ask the chicken about its "superiors"--but that made even less sense than whatever he had just said. What had he said? And why was it so important? And where was that last journal, he had wasted perfectly good arcane spell components on it...shaking his head, Arthur walked into the shadows of the Hall, awaiting the call of a Quest.

McCafferey stared back at Arthuer somewhat coldly.

"If you consider him a good friend, his path has been skewed far more than I suspected. Unfortunately, young mage, what you ask me to do directly contradicts what he is to become. I will not squander such a scarcely found opportunity to set him right doing just the opposite. But you intrigue me to some degree. I will not wish you a meaningless ideal, but do try to follow your road through the end, even if it is not entirely clear to you now....or if see you see another too much so."

At that moment, however, Atramor spotted his chicken, scooping her up from the table she was perched upon.

"I'll be seein' 'ya, mate," he mumbles hastily to Arthur, with a nod. "Get in as many fights as 'ya can and you'll be liftin' gold outta pockets in no time."

"May there be many pockets to pick on yours, Atramor, and may our paths cross again soon." Arthur ponders the chicken's words. Was he on the right path? Was there even a right path in the first place? True, the Lion Knights were worthy allies, but was it worth gaining tha favor of one of the most corrupt Houses of Eubric? Arthur begins to ponder these thoughts, but remains convinced that, even if it was not, his destiny awaited him in Dastan. He glanced thoughtfully over at the Quest board, and wondered if any of the other Heroes he had congratulated had truly noticed him beyond simple acknowledgement, and who they even were. To whom was fate entrusting his first true ally in the Hall, and the unexpectedly brilliant Ranger who now held the secrets to recovering his family's legacy? "Legacy..." he murmured. Was that it? Was that the purpose to his existence? If so, then on a lteral level he was surely failing--he was by no means unattractive in the slightest, but his absent manner did little to endear him to those he found attractive. Perhaps it was on a metaphorical level--but what did that mean anyway? What legacy was he building, to whom would he end up passing it on? Brooding over these questions, he withdrew back into the shadows of the Hall to lie in wait for his next Quest.

Drake caught the rat...well, he didn't catch it, but he burnt it to a crisp. He then suddenly reflected on his past.....where he used to live life as a guard at castle fortaan, when he lived a happy life with is mother and father. He was 19 back then...he was scared of rats back then. That led him to know why he chased the rat...he was scared of them. But then he realized that when the rat was by him, he didn't run away screaming like a little girl with the rat chasing him. No. He was brave, he chased the rat. He cornered it, burnt it to a crisp. He had conquered his fear....banished it to hell....sort of. Was that what bravery felt like? Yes. He stood up and walked away from the remains of the rat, which were just ashes.

I look around the Hall, seeing many Heroes packing up and heading for the distant land of Dastan. I find it clear, like a few other heroes, that these multi-Quests can only lead to one thing. Invasion War.

It's sick. Hero on hero. We've all became close in these four walls, and now they ask us to fight each other. We're like family here, some of us. Hero on hero. Brother on brother. Is no one else disturbed? Does no one else see? We're doing their dirty work here! This isn't war! This is a massacre of innocents! They're splitting us up, then sending us to kill each other! Hero on hero, brother on brother, mentor on apprentice, lover on lover- where does it end? What do they want from us? Worst of all, I fear, is the fact that I smell Wren in all of this. It's like a full-scale version of her Arena I've heard so much about. I, for one, will not be a part of this. I can't. I've seen everyone I hold dear die because of my actions before. I won't do it again. Go, if you must. Go fight. Hero on hero. Brother on brother. Mentor on Aprentice. Lover on lover. But I can't. Thus I won't.

Skrall looked up, "Dyric my friend settle down and have a seat." Skrall motioned to Rone and ordered a tankard of ale. "Now then, what is all this talk of heroes against heroes, have ya read the latest quest requests? What makes ya think Wren has anything to do with 'em?"

"No, he's got a point," Arthur said, stepping forth once more from the shadows. "These Quests seem set against each other--a more potent recipe for Chaos has yet to be uncovered. I do not know if the Lady Wren herself is involved, particularly, but darkness surrounds us all. In times like these it is best to keep our allies close at hand." And why I fear so for Atramor. "Do not assume the Lady Wren is behind this, however, Mister Rone. There are more Chaos-users in this world than the Lady Wren, and perhaps some even more potente in their ability. Limiting thy suspicion to just one, no matter how powerful that one may be, could be a fatal mistake."

*I run into the hall, nearly knocking a few people down in my hurry to reach the Questboard*

"Good; I didn't miss it."

*I say, breathlessly*

*I write my name on the sheets for Quest 31 and Quest 32*

OOC: (32, however, is only a backup for if I don't get into 31. But I really want to go on a Quest QMed by Brickdoctor.)

"I fail to see the connection young Master Arthur, I've dealt with Wren before and while she takes joy in the advent of war, I'm sure we would have heard from some of our previous contacts were her presence in the area made known. As for the quests, I can see nothin' wrong with 'em. Some rogue lion knights are off stirrin' up trouble in Dastan, the emperors want 'em gone, the established lion knight order want 'em gone and so do we, I can hardly see any reason for conflict with our fellow heroes. Now put yer worries aside and have a drink." Skrall was in a good mood, he hoped to be picked for one of the upcoming quests and he could already hear the gold tinkling in his satchel, soon he'd be able to get the collection hounds off his back and life would be return to normal.

Skrall's thoughts turned again to Wren, how had it happened he wondered. Was it a slow fading or a sudden compulsion that had turned her? Was it the allure of fame, or gold, or power? What set her apart from some of the heroes in the hall, they were all after the same thing, well some of them at least, they just hadn't killed everybody in their way to get it, well not yet...

"Perhaps...that is why I cautioned Mister Rone not to assume it was her. Perhaps someone in Dastan--or even one of the Emperors--is a user of Chaos. As for the conflict...well, I have a feeling that the rougue Lion Knights are either an excuse or a scapegoat, a manufactured excuse for war. We Heroes shall be walking a knifeblade, a steep and slippery slope on either side. Do not misunderstand, I look forward to the challenge, but I do not wish to make rash decisions that may put others in danger. An old friend once told me 'hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.' It seems wise advice to me."

Still. The fact is, something is going on here. Master Skrall, there's three quests all going to the same place- a place none of us have been before. I don't think that has happened yet. I fear war is brewing. And so should you.

You see a Lion Pikeman, becoming more common in Eubric every day, enter the Hall. You watch him scrutinize the list before writing a second list and pinning it to the Quest Board. You see him seek out four heroes, whom you overhear him instructing to follow him.

Sitting in the stairs, Galen watched with interest the newcomer pin a new note to the board. A hero walked to the board then glanced in his direction -- he had been chosen!

There was no rush though -- he was as ready as he would ever be. No last minute shopping, what little gold he had left wouldn't buy him anything useful. He laid back and wondered who else would leave for Dastan with him. And whether any would come back.

Then he remembers. Taking off a boot he thrusts a hand inside it, pokes around a bit and produces a handful of gold pieces. 'Emergency funds. Perhaps something can be said for a few more potions.'

Sarick tasted something different in the air. He opened his eyes and looked toward the quest board to see a man posting a paper. Sarick waited for the others to look before he slithered over and read the names. He was on the list for a quest and would be leading a party again. He had already spent his remainder gold. Sarick was ready to start on his next quest.

I come from the just above the northern borders of Barresh. And yes, I am a cleric of Galadrya and Celeborn. As noisy and violent as the city is, within it are places of order and civilization. The library here at Heroica Hall being a notable example. I have, though, spent some months in the monestery of Sem beyond the walls of the city. I went for the feast of Sem and the turning of year and ended up staying for a while meditating. My last quest left me with some very personal questions.

I was on an aborted quest with the Naga and the fat paladin, and now I'm preparing to quest with the Naga and the Orc paladin to Dastaan. It seems Celebryon's will that I learn patience and humility from travelling with them.

And yourself? Where are you from and what path lead you to be an Aeromancer?

It is a pleasure meeting you. I hope we have a little more time to talk before I must leave.

Leo Aragon walks into the hall and Tosses Draken's Fire (WP7) Sword to Daxus.

Leo then sees a beautiful Elven Lady, who he thinks might be Nerwen who he wrote letters to through VMail. " Hello, I am Leo Aragon, Mystic Knight. And you must be Nerwen, the elegant Elvish Cleric."

Skrall hears a soldier clad in the regale of the lion knights mention his name, bidding farewell to Dyric he accompanies the soldier out of the hall. As he sets out on the street he notes another ogre walking through the marketplace a few blocks away but does not have time to indulge his curiosity.
