Masked Builder Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 "Hey, ranger I challenge you to a fight in the Arena." Alexis looks up from writing letters and glances at the mage. "Who me?" She asks with a confused face. Quote
Pandora Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 Nyx follows her questmates into Heroica Hall with her midnight robes flowing behind her. The air around her shimmers hazily due to her unexpended lightning magics and her innate fire, now fueled so symbiotically with her Barbaric aspect; this makes it clear to those with keen senses she is grumpy and irritable. She's grateful for small mercies, though, as she hadn't had to endure the disorienting time-travel like her colleagues, but she still feels slightly unusual. Slumping decadently into the plump cushions she sees Sarick looking groggily at her with questioning eyes, flanked by Amorith, also wearing a expression of curiosity. "That went well, don't you think?" she mutters as Scherezade brings her her favourite Flaming Gumball with a sympathetic smile. An enexpected coughing fit halts any further recounting of events. Somehow Nyx manages to hack up a whole biscuit onto the table which, after glittering invitingly for a mere moment, fades away. "That'd be my Enchanted Biscuit gone, then." she grumbles dabbing at her mouth with a napkin as a faint popping sound followed by a jingle indicated the items she had bought had similarly been whisked away and the requisite gold returned. She shrugs her shoulders, takes a deep draught of her drink and sighs. "There isn't much to tell about what happened after you guys left for the past, but here's what happened..." Nyx leans forward in her chair and begins to recount the events "Ignatious and I were having lovely time chatting and drinking tea. He even gave me biscuits, one of which was the one you just saw disappearing, unfortunately. It gave me a permanent boost to my Ether, but it's gone again now, which is annoying. "Anyhow, we were chatting and I asked if he had any stuff lying around in his magical house that might be helpful; it turns out there wasn't really but he very kindly sold me some Marketplace items at reduced cost. Then he had a psychic message from Octavian, saying you guys were in trouble and offering if I'd like to go back to the past too and help you out. I never heard back from you guys about that. Anyway, not long after that another assassin, almost identical to the dude that killed whatsisname, burst in and tried to attack us. After sitting for several hours on boring guard duty, Nyx spots some movement across the room. It's the assassin! PREPARE FOR BATTLE!!! The Enemy: Masked Assassin Type: Unknown (Note: this means that no particular jewel is super effective) Level: 20 Health: 200/200 Special 1: Sneak Attack- The assassin sneaks behind his target and halves their health. Special 2: Backup call- The assassin calls for help and summons a lesser assassin to battle. Drops: 200 gold, mysterious note "Next thing I know there's a flurry of pink letters and then the next thing after that... well there was a big warpy twisty-turnyness to everything and you guys reappeared. I'm not sure what happened to the assassin in the confusion, but he didn't seem to still be there when everyone had gathered their senses, so I guess he ran back out into the night. "I had a lightning bolt primed and with his name on it and I had to discharge it and I hate having to do that because it make my hair go all frizzy, and it'll be daaaaays now until I can smooth it down again. Urgh" and with the last utterance she slumps back in her chair, drinking further from her Flaming Gumball, draining the glass. "Sarick, you really do look rough, you know?" Sarick nods gingerly in agreement, as if worried his head might fall off. Nyx leans forward and pats him gently on the arm before standing up, and with a new-found energy she stalks over to the questboard and signs up for the only available quest #23: Guarding the Guards, where she is mildly surprised to see Rufindel's name on the sheet. As if satisfied she walks back to her cushioned seat noting, as she picks up a fresh drink, the two current Paladins deep in conversation at the bar. Both of these heroes, she thinks to herself, are fine warriors and old friends, but now does not seem to be the right time to interrupt. She rejoins Sarick and Amorith as they pick over the bones of their aborted quest and glumly drink their drinks. Quote
Xarrzan Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 "Glad you are safe Nyx and could have easily handled that assassin." Sarick puts his head down on the table for awhile and listenes to the conversations around him. He heard a strange sound and looked up to see his spent phoenix essence on the table in front of him. Sarick grabbed it and stuck it in his pouch. "Phoenix essence: 50 gold. Life experience from battling ancient warriors: Priceless." Quote
Mibbiwocket Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 Olinn was confused by the glumness of the most recent heroes he had seen enter the hall - he had thought that these people would feel happy and accomplised whenever they returned. Perhaps they had failed their quest? He didn't know, but hoped that it wouldn't happen to him all the same. If he ever got to go on one, that is... Quote
Bricksandparts Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 Johon walks over to Olinn. "Hello, My name is Johon. Lots of people call me Alf though. What's your name?" As he waits for his reply, Johon gets some bread and water. "I'm building a house, Would you like to come help? I could help you out around here." Quote
Mibbiwocket Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 "H-hello... M-my name's Olinn; um, I-I don't think I'd be m-much help b-building a house..." he said nervously, as his cat Sparky sniffed Johon's hand. Quote
Bricksandparts Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 Johon leaned down and gave 'sparky' some of his bread, though he didn't seem too interested so Johon got some chicken and got a bowl of milk and gave that to the cat. "You wouldn't have to do much. I could probably teach you some tricks in the wild." Johon let's Olinn think it over while he takes out some wood and carves a spoon, and then picture of Sparky on the end. "Here, have this." Johon passes Olinn the spoon. Quote
Mibbiwocket Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 Olinn sits wide-eyed as Johon swiftly carves the spoon. "T-thank you, Mr. Johon! I-I love it!" Sparky yowls excitedly, then purrs softly. "Heheh, Sparky l-likes it too! Well, i-if you're sure I could help, th-then I s'pose I could... i-it's a little boring here a-anyway..." Quote
Bricksandparts Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 Johon takes out his sheet of paper with the house plan. (It wouldn't really be in color, but it's just for looks.) First floor: Second floor isn't planned out yet... --- Johon and Olinn walk to the construction site, which is about 3 miles north of the hall. When they arrive, there is a pile of wood and some post-holes in the ground. Johon lends Olinn his shovel and a measuring board to make the marks for the posts while he leaves to get more wood. --- After about 2 hours, Olinn's arms are a bit sore so Johon decides to take a break. They ride back to Eubric and get some food from some traders. "Ok, we need to go get a cart and some supplies for the house. Mainly, some nails, equipment, supports of Iron..." After eating, they go to a smithing shop and buy what they need. They return to the site and continue work... Johon finds 2 carts and rents a horse. Olinn rides the horse while Johon tugs the other cart alone. Once to the site, Johon and Olinn cut the wood to size, and stick them into the ground. After the main poles are up, Johon put wood and supports around the poles on the interior and exterior of the house. They nail the posts in, making the build much sturdier. Johon builds the stairs and helps Olinn get some supports ready for the second floor. After attaching these and nailing them, they get the tarp and cover the house to block leaks from rain and to stop the rain from softening to wood. They both return from the site to the hall, about 7 hours after they had left. Quote

OCC: More character building! Quote
Mibbiwocket Posted February 18, 2012 Posted February 18, 2012 Olinn had never felt more tired, but was glad to have made a new friend and to have helped him so. He sat back down and quickly fell asleep with his animals, but awoke with a start when he heard his name. "Huh? What? Oh, um, m-me?" Quote

"I can't be friends with you, Orc, at least at the time being. I'm aware times have changed, but for me, the memories are strong. I'll offer you a skeptical acquaintanceship with a chance of gaining my respect, how's about that, chappo?" Quote

This was it - Olinn's first battle! He was still tired from helping Johon earlier, and a still a bit shy, but he decided it would still be worthwhile to hone his skills in battle. "A-all right then..." Quote

Zepher Posted February 19, 2012 Posted February 19, 2012 Boomingham nods politely to Alexis, who he quested with on his very first quest. She had not made much of an impression on him then, but she had clearly grown. He is still unsettled by time travel, and by Cronk's genuine refusal to accept responsibility for the crimes his species had paid. It bothered Boomingham that Cronk seemed to feel truly guiltless, and that he did not even associate himself with the Orcs who had committed so many wrongs, but he could not see anyway past it, and it wasn't in his rights to ruin the slightly naive and simple Paladin's happy disposition. He decided that what had happened had happened, and returned to his normal demeanor - a determined happiness. Those who were sad chose to be happy were happy, and those who decided to be unhappy were unhappy, and this was something Boomingham knew. Happy or sad, facts were facts, and what had passed could not be changed. Looking forward was all he, or anyone was capable of. However, it was tough to remain cheerful when all he had to do was sit and stew. He waves Barty away, hoping that he will sign him up for Quest #23 Guarding the Guards. "Distract me, dear," he ordered Alexis briskly. "What has happened since we searched that warehouse together? I hear, from that wonderous grapevine, and that gossiping Orc, never trust an Orc I always-" Boomingham becomes acutely aware that Cronk is still at the table, but he cannot change his sentence at this point, he is not mentally agile enough, "-say... yes, sorry chap, but your kind, as a whole, are not very trustworthy... especially not the barmaid... she is a gossip..." Boomingham stops, and decides to cut his loses. He does not apologize to Cronk. He cannot treat him like all Orcs because he is clearly what his species would consider an outcast, a defect, which is exactly what made him even remotely acceptable as a being, but the things he dislikes about Orcs stand, they had started a war and people had suffered. That stood, always. "Tell me, Alexis, what has happened. I hear talk of you batting your beautiful eyelashes at a certain Mage." Quote

That stood, always. Cronk have word of advice for fellow paladin. Cronk think it best not to insult lady providing food and drink. Cronk not think Scheherazade would poison Boomingham but maybe Saloon Matron slip some surprise in Boomingham's refreshment. Hard for Paladin to quest if Paladin never make it out of outhouse. That remind Cronk. Cronk never buy buttermilk, only rent it. Please excuse Cronk. Quote
Masked Builder Posted February 19, 2012 Posted February 19, 2012 Alexis looked at Boomingham as he spoke. She rather disagreed with his thoughts on Orcs, in fact, all of the Orcs she has met have been nice people. But it would not be polite to disagree with him so she just let it stand. "Oh, well, I went on this one quest where the whole party was shrunk to look for some children, and then there was the latest quest where we got shipwrecked on an island with some crazy guy. I've also advanced into the realm of magical combat and can summon creatures to fight for me. You mentioned Althior, he's a great guy but sometimes I think he's not quite right in the head if you know what I mean." She sighed, she had still wanted to talk to Cronk. Maybe he'd come back later.
