Bioniclover Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 Knifk takes a long swig of his ale, then looks about the hall. After Guts had left, it seemed a Quest full of Heroes still wet behind the ears had returned, and they were now engaging in the usual senseless banter, and his cowardly Quest mate Johon seemed to be encouraging the stupidity, having a jovial chat with a bloodsucker across the bar. Two magically inclined folks were sitting at a table, muttering to each other, apparently criticizing the pair of undead heroes in the hall. The muscular orc couldn't help but agree with them, a true warrior fights with sword and shield, not by draining a foe's life force in the dead of night. Taking another long swig, he finished his drink, then stood up and went downstairs into the lobby to get some reprieve from the ceaseless arguments that took place around the bar. Leaning against the wall, a new notice on the QuestBoard caught his eye - reading it, he could barely keep from laughing out loud. A hair salon was asking for help from heroes? He couldn't help it, he let out a guffaw. Scanning the board for any other notices, he quickly found one from a group of Orcs searching for help. Knifk didn't hesitate in penning down his name for Quest #35, if a fellow Baltarokian needed help, he was duty bound to provide. Quote

"Please, young Lycan, "it does no one good to shout out in such a manner and accuse others of being a fool. You have not been around here long, and you do not know Master Johon at all besides from what we have discussed here. You cannot go on making assumptions about his intellectual powers although, granted, he does not seem particularly adept at using that God-given brain between his head, you really should not be making assumptions on a few minutes' conversation. Also, I would not boast so about the life you have led, it seems like you should be in prison as of now and not enjoying the hospitality of Heroica. At least Johon has gone on some quests and, I could imagine, done somebody some good somewhere. You are hardly one to talk. Honestly, I only see master Johon training to become either a raider or a berserker, although now that I look at him, he hardly has the diplomatic skills needed to acquire a knight's job. "Everyone will have some enemies. Every person in the world is hated somewhere. No one is above or beyond it. Even the best of men are hated. It is a sad thing, but true. However, you have made some pretty bold comments at Johon and I would implore you to take them back. Granted I may agree with some of them, if not all, but it is hardly becoming of such a young one as yourself. I am beginning to fear for you Lycan. Do not let the demons who desire you take possession of your soul. "It is a sad thing that you fail to recognize the existance of God in your life, and your failure to see Him can only lead you into evil, which I can see, to a certain extent, that it has. I worry for you, I cannot say it enough. But those who reject God may find in their time of need that He has turned His back on them as well. Of course, to a certain extent, we do control our future, but God controls more than that. He has given us each a will of our own to choose to do good or evil. To choose to follow his way or the ways of demons. We own our lives and we decide our future, but it is only because God has given us the ability to do so." Johon shoves Lycan away, back into his seat. "You think you know everything don't you? There's a big difference between courage and stupidity. I don't hide from danger, I go to it. "This, this is what you make it to be." I turn to Johon, "Right and wrong is not what you make it to be. Everyone does not have their own idea of what is right and what is wrong. There are rules in place. God has given them to man. The earth is God's and whatever in it is His too, just as in..." I pause, "...most cities, a king rules the land, God rules the entire world and He alone decides what is right and what is wrong without our helping hand aiding Him in his decision making. Who are we to Him anyway? We may not be able to change Eubric entirely and change it into the utopian state that you mentioned, but we can each do what we can. Once cannot, or at least should not, use the failings of others as an excuse for his own. One cannot say, "because no one else is doing it, I do not need to do it either." That thinking will not get anyone anywhere. The fact is, when you signed up to become a member of Heroica, you signed up to be a hero and whether heroes are wealthy or suffering they still have a code they must abide by. I realize that few, if any, among us can truly call themselves heroes, but that should not prevent us from being the best heroes that we can be. "As far as the vampire is concerned, you mentioned him coming in for food. May I remind you that Heroica is not a charity service. We do not just dish out free food to whomever will receive it. I wish we could do so, but we have not the financial backing. The life of a hero is not meant to be an easy one, where one can receive all the free food and drinks one desires. When you signed up to be a hero, you agreed to pay the price to be that hero, whatever it would cost you. Now it is fantastic that we have free drinks and food available to us, but I do not think that whoever created this service meant it so that any tramp from the street could sign up to be a hero and live happily ever after with no work done. No! This service was meant to encourage the weary when they return from battle and give us all a feeling of unity here at the hall. Unfortunately, I have to say, it seems to have failed to do that, but at least they have done what they could. It is most ungrateful to abuse that hospitality. "...Furthermore, I never recall mentioning anything about anyone coming to save anybody...?" Quote
Bricksandparts Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 "Point taken, perhaps even with your ways of following this god, you are still a person who you may talk to." Johon takes off his cape and rolls it onto the floor. He then takes off his armor and places it to the side. He looks up into the stars out of the world and sees the other planets, whom he had not known the names since his first quest. He looks out at Belevl, Exofors, Galidoor, and sees Spyrium soon to an eclipse behind Galidoor, with the Sun sinking over the horizon. "It's beautiful, we are always too busy with fighting and rescuing that we don't get to just relax and look into the skies." As minutes passed the sun disappears over the horizon and darkness enters the hall. Johon gets a few more of the cookies and wraps them up and puts them in his pocket. Then he lies down and tries to rest, but he can't. He thinks something strange is going on. Quote

Bricksandparts Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 Johon sees the monk leave, then pretends to go to sleep, with his eye-lids low enough that others would think he was asleep, but he was still looking out at the world. He couldn't shake off the feeling about how Lycan had morphed. A chill ran down his spine and he hears howling. He hears werewolves and the door to the hall swings open! Johon grabs his sword and springs into the air. He looks around but there is not werewolf. No howling. Nothing. He swallows hard. The door had been blown open by a strong gust of wind. Johon sheathes his sword and tries to go to bed, but still he can't. Quote

What has changed? My cart pushed tightly against two walls, I lay down in front of it on my bedroll, only half asleep. The night passes in an uneasy restlessness. Exiting the Hall to head to his inn for the night, Arasmyth notices his new friend laying in a small alley, restlessly tossing and turning in his bedroll. With a rough shake, he awakens the hermit, unlocking his room's door and gesturing to the interior, ushering the monk in. He mumbles something to himself and his staff glows an ethereal blue, and scrolls, books, and herbs go flying about the chaotic room. Arasmyth's eyes narrow, and the clutter all flies to a corner of the room, leaving some bare floor space. His eyes brighten as he notices an ornate wooden trunk, carved with magic runes and decorated with Emeralds. Opening it, he mutters a word or two to activate the enchantment some herbomancer had imbued in the chest, which allowed any herb to be summoned from a separate Plane to the chest with minimum Ether expenditure. The cavity begins to fill with an odorous powder that brings tears to the elf's eyes, and once the runes stop glowing and the box stops filling, Arasmyth lifts it up and scatters garlic powder generously at all openings to the room. He unrolls his Bedroll on one of the bare floor patches and gestures for Pretzel to do the same, then with a final spell mumbled under his breath, a gust of wind extinguishes the lamps and candles around the room, plunging it into darkness. xxlrocka Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 Drake's armour shone in the moonlight as night arrived. He quietly crept out of the hall silently and softly sang a song as quiet as he could. Although he didn't actually know the words so he just sang random stuff along with the tune. He put his bedroll on the cold, wet, soft green grass and he fell asleep....again, silently. Quote
Palathadric Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 (edited) Sleepily, I follow after Arasmyth, stumbling about as my cart trundles behind me. I almost look like a drunk, although I had no wine to drink that entire evening. I bump into objects along the way to Arasmyth's apartment, but somehow always manage to keep up with him. As we enter I trip over the door frame dropping my mat onto the floor and collapsing onto it. Arasmyth realizes that the noise he heard when leading me had been my snoring. The next morning, I wake up and am confused as to where I am. I look questioningly at Arasmyth. Edited June 3, 2012 by Palathadric Quote
Bricksandparts Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 Johon stares at the wall as he sees heroes rise from their sleep. Nothing mysterious had happened. Just a normal night, and Johon hadn't gotten any rest, though he was not tired, not just because he could stay awake for extremely long times, but there was something else. Mystery. It was everywhere. Most of the other heroes are still asleep, and Johon decides to go get some breakfast. He sits at a table, the only one in the hall yet up. he spoons out some new kind of food from the bakery called 'cereal'. It tasted kind of strange, but Johon still ate it. Johon gets up again, gathers his equipment, and places it in his locker/vault. He goes out to his home to continue work. Quote
