Masked Builder Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 Alexis tunes out of the conversation for a minute as Jess walks into the hall again. It was good to see her back, she'd have to talk to her about what she was thinking of doing. As Althior and Haldor talk, she cathes a bit of the conversatoin. "Finnegan, just don't. Where was I? Oh yes, women. From what I know, stand up and apologize. Wish Alexis knew that. Again, I know nothing about women, even with my experiences on this earth. So just go, sit by her, talk about it. From what I can see, she still admires you, and you her." Finnegan lets out a sob from the other side of the room. "What's your problem?" Then it laxes off and she decides to speak to Althior again. "Alright Althior, look, I'm sorry for doing anything that upset you, I really am." She wraps her arm around him. "Could you just tell me what I did to upset you, please?" Quote
The Legonater Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 "Out of curiosity, Master Finnegan, if everyone treats you as badly as it would appear, why do you even bother staying here?" The man's making a lot of sense, Finnegan. I turn to Docken. Have we met? I have such a terrible memory. Haldor tried his best to ignore the irritant that is Finnegan, who happened to be the last thing in the world that he needed. "Okay, fine. Next time she comes through that door I'll go over; if she isn't practicing her stealth technique. Sitting here drinking my head off isn't going to help anybody, oh and try not to start anymore fights while we are talking." And thus he sat, and he waited, and he waited. I guess that's as good an idea as any. Quote

Darth Nihilus Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 Johon feels Drake's head bang against his while his remains perfectly still. As Drake's eyes spin and he falls down, Johon stands up and shakes the surprised Dak's hand, almost dislocating his arm. "You seem a worthwhile quester, Would you want to sign up with me? I believe Sorrow is open, then we have a chance at being chosen." "Nice....Very friendly..." Dak says, sardonically. "I'd be fine with that arrangement. Just stay out of my way when we're getting info, if we have to. I don't want to soften 'em up with no Diplomacy crap. Intimidation is the best and only way to get someone to talk, even if you have to beat them to a pulp to do it." Quote

Boomingham repockets the gold that Nur passes him. "I guess I won't spend it on weapon enhancements just yet, then," he says. "Thanks for the tip, chap. Next drinks on me." Boomingham giggles and sways. "Actually I've trying to get in contact with the Ji Pei..." "Speaking of training, haven't you seen the Copper Fox? Where is your... fairy?" "Ha! My angel has gone on a vacation. He's trying to make me feel guilty for smiting him- ran my sword through him by accident, Nur can tell you about it... but I know that he's just trying to make me feel guilt. That's all religion is. Guilt guilt guilt. You learn from your actions, but you don't dwell on them. That's my religion." Boomingham belches. "I haven't run into any of the houses since we first looked through those wares. I hope to stick around Eubric now and see what I can do. Appears that we've got a problem festering in our own home. Wolfgang has to be put down... Nur, you said you knew 'em, right? Let's hear." Hybros shook his head, they were so hard to understand sometimes. But he could understand the guilt part. He felt it every day when he thought about his people... "Have you seen that monk around here? Pretzel I think his name is... perhaps he can help you with your... angel. And these problems with the houses in power... eheh, yes, I have witnessed the drama between them. Perhaps it is better to just let these things happen, though?" Quote

"Yes...by accident. Horrible thing that bit of business was." Nur raised his glass to the fallen comrade. "Was a bit surprised how easily he perished to earthly steel. However my assumption is the intent and emotions behind the blow was what truly did him in." Juice from the bite of his chicken leaked into his beard. I'll save that for later. "The majority of my questing as a part of Heroica has kept me here in Eubric. I appreciate the excuse this organization has offered for me to explore a new city. So aye, I've had a few run-ins with members of the Wolfgang. I hear the rumours like everyone else of how they're a rising power in this city but from what I've witnessed, they're just a ragtag group of low threat scoundrels." His cup of cocoa empty he ordered some water. "I find they often know a great deal about the happenings in this city and if you can get one to talk, their information is always solid. I don't quite understand the 'Wolf' portion of their name. Wolves travel in packs yet I've only encountered one or two at a time. Since they are everywhere they seem more like the Ratpack to me. Personally, I'm more concerned with the Metasimians. Those damn dirty apes attack from the building tops and leave their victims in the streets for all to see." Quote

"Don't we have one of those chaps in the hall? Thothwick, I met him once, he was a supportive and noble soul. Perhaps we ought to send him as an ambassador to them." Quote
Jebediahs Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 "Thothwick? What sort of skill set does he bring to Heroica, blade, spells or bow? I suppose I should spend time studying the current roster for awhile. Maybe that librarian can go with him. Last time I spoke with him though he got flustered when I tried to give him a banana." Nur enjoyed a butter roll. "Are there any druid members of this guild? I think their affinity for natural magics could help me with my control over water and earth based spell casting." Quote
Scorpiox Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 Haldor's eyes never left the oak doors while he sat there and waited. He'd had a lot of practice at waiting, as ever patience was imperative in the tasks that were required. But the time passed since he'd last spoken to Jess only cemented any fears that hung in Haldor's mind. Not wishing to remove himself from his own misery in conversation, the Nord barely even touching the neglected alcohol resting invitingly upon the bar. When she came, he would be sober and prepared. There was very little left of the bond between them, but after the less than pleasant events of the quest, the bond was fraying. Haldor was tired now, worn with stress and worry. She had to get here soon. Quote

Sisco Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 Jess looked in the window before she entered the Hall. She spotted Haldor staring at the front doors. Not wanting to be spotted by him but not wanting to pay for drinks elsewhere, Jess stole up to the roof of the Hall, where she had discovered a trap door that led to a small attic above the pub. Jess inched the trap door up and slipped inside. Closing the trapdoor as quietly as she could, Jess allowed herself a slight smile at her cleverness. Jess turned around and jumped a mile at the sight of Scheherazade standing eye-to-eye with Jess, an inquisitive look on her face. "Hello, Jess. What're you doing in my attic?" "Uh, well, you see Scheherazade, I was just making my way to the front door, and I uh, just got lost, and uh, I uh, well I-" "Stop Jess. I know that you just aren't brave enough to face Haldor." "What? Of course I'm brave enough! I just, uh, can't uh, well I-" "Jess. Listen to me. I've seen a lot of romances between heroes. I've seen almost all of those romances fall apart. I've been watching you and Haldor. I've watched your relationship grow. I've watched it flower. I thought that you two might actually stick it out, unlike so many other heroes. But no. The flower of your love has wilted like so many others. I suppose I should've seen it coming, a rogue like you with a cleric like Haldor. It shouldn't work, and it obviously doesn't." "No! We're just going through a little... Spat right now. It'll work itself out!" "It won't 'work itself out' and you know it. The only way you and Haldor can survive this is for you to get over yourself and talk to him. But I know it won't happen. You just don't have the guts." "Don't you be calling me 'coward' Scheherazade! I've defeated many enemies and faced dozens of horrors! I do have guts!" "Then show it! Stop proclaiming your bravery to me and go talk to Haldor!" "I... I... I will! I'll show you, Scheherazade! I will make this work with Haldor. I'm going right now. You'll see!" --------------------------------------- Jess left Scheherazade, who seemed to be snickering for some reason, and dropped down lightly into the pub. She then ordered her a tall shot of something strong, drank it in one gulp, then walked with an air of bravado to Haldor. Jess tapped him on the shoulder... To find that he had fallen asleep. "Typical male..." Jess muttered to herself. Jess then sat in the chair directly across from him and waited for him wake up. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 It's no problem. Dyric Rone. "Pleased to meet you, Master Rone. Will you join me for a meal?" Quote
Scorpiox Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 (edited) Clearly startled, Haldor shot up and cursed loudly, disorientatedly searching around for the mystery appearance. "Where the bloody hell did you come from?! Wait, what?" As his vision cleared and the scene ahead materialised, Haldor immeadiately planted himself down again and resumed his firm staring at the dirt-trodden floorboards. She was sat on a stool accross from him, her mane of dark hair the ever-flowing river that partly obscured the face that he knew so well. The Nord did his best to avoid the view of the two crystal blue gems that shone so brightly, his insides melting into jelly. It struck him suddenly as to how much he missed her, although they had been near for a while, and all words were lost to him. "Oh, hello. Well, um how are you? I, I'm sorry." Awkward silence ensues. Sisco Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 Jess sat through the silence, unsure of what to say. "How could you side with the Wolfgang?" Jess whispered at last. "I don't understand how a goody-two-shoes cleric such as yourself could be aligned with those mangy ragamuffins." Quote
Scorpiox Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 (edited) Haldor thought to himself, and raised his gaze high enough to answer the questions that Jess spoke. "Maybe I never was a goody-two-shoes. I was just trying to do what was right, but now and again I tripped. Nur told us that Donny was right. I'm not blaming my friend, but his morals are slightly lopsided in some cases, and at the time it sounded so true. The Town Watch were corrupt and lawless then, and I musta' thought that the Wolfgang were somehow better. I never acted upon it, until the alleyway. Maybe you were wrong about me, maybe I was always as bad as them." Haldor sighed, and steeled himself to look up into her eyes, waiting to hear what she would say. Sisco Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 Jess sat in silence after listening to Haldor speak. She then put her head in her hands and began to talk. "Haldor... You're supposed to be the good guy. I need a good guy in my life. I'm... I'm not a good person, Haldor. I'm greedy and corrupt. You were supposed to rub off on me. I was supposed to grow as a person from being with you. But here I am, finding out that you're almost as bad as me... I don't know. I just... Don't... Know." Jess felt a tear sliding down her face, and angrily wiped it away. This was not going well, it seemed... Quote
Scorpiox Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 (edited) Haldor was about to reach forward and touch Jess, but he quickly stopped himself. It was all happening so fast, and so wrong. "It isn't like that. I'm not one of them. I don't work for them or do anything that is wrong for them. I haven't even seen them since Donny and the one we found. It's Nur who is with them, I only tried to do what would help. I was wrong, I know, but it is right now. I never gave an oath to join them or do anything, just to let Donny live." Haldor looked imploringly at her, hoping that she would see the truth. "Please, don't turn me into something that I'm not." Edited July 17, 2012 by Scorpiox Quote
Zepher Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 Boomingham listens from the bar. He burps and stand up. "Excuse me, Hybros, Nur. I have something I've got to go do." Boomingham lurches over to the fighting couple. "Listen," he slurred, draping an arm on each of their shoulders. "Life is short, and you can be taken away from each other like that!" Boomingham attempts to snap his fingers. He fails. "Now, I can't pretend to know either of you all that well, so Hel, maybe this isn't a couple made in the stars, but again, Hel, maybe it is, if you're still following me." Boomingham's eyes narrow suspiciously at nothing in particular. "Jess, you can't expect Haldor to improve you. S'not his job. You gotta improve yourslef, sorry, self. You either love him or you don't, alright? You can't just use him. Take responsibility. Haldor, protect your woman. That's... that's your duty! I don't gibe a rat's megablocks about who is holy to what, you protect her when something attacks her, okay? Okay." "Look, you either like each other, or not. That's what everything boils down to. If you do, cut the crap, if you don't, cut the crap." Boomingham pats them both forcefully on the back, steals Haldor's still full glass, and waltzes back to the bar. "Crazy kids," he mumbles to Hybros and Nur before downing the glass. Quote
Scorpiox Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 (edited) Haldor shook his head, vaguely irritated. "I'd love it to be that simple Lawrence, I really would. I love Jess and I want to be with her forever, and I'd like to hope that she cares for me too. But that isn't it. There are problems, but maybe you just don't have them with your vibrant charm. I went where I shouldn't have, and we suffered for it. Stuff like this can't be forgotten in a moment's thought." Haldor poured himself another glass and sat there again, contemplating. Edited July 17, 2012 by Scorpiox Quote
JimBee Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 Hybros shook his head and chuckled. Actually, it sounded more like a cough, so Boomingham and Nur couldn't tell the difference. "Eheheh... you don't mean to tell us that the great King never had a queen?" Quote
Zepher Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 Boomingham sighs and stares into the empty glass. "Had, yes. She's dead now. I left for war, expecting to come home to her. Never quite did. We had problems too, figured we'd work them out after the Orcs were worked out. We never quite got the chance. I was unfaithful, she didn't like it. Figures." Boomingham licks his lips. "I really did love her. She married someone else, after I had been gone long enough. Forgot all about me, according to the history books. Such is life, I guess." Quote
JimBee Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 Hybros stopped laughing and looked sadly at Boomingham. Even if he couldn't understand these emotions that the lord once had, he could still sympathize with his loneliness. "Life goes on, but you never forget, do you?" Quote
