Ellaria shrugged her shoulders.

"I signed into a quest pitched by the Town Watch, maybe the officers know something. The few watchmen I managed to get ahold of did not seem to care. Old Spriggan promised to ask around, too."

She then looked at her friend deep in the eyes.

"Lexie, I know she's alive. I just feel it in my heart. I know she's tiny and fragile, but she lives. I cannot give up on her."

"I'd love to be with you again, but I don't think the Town Watch would be to happy to have me. I'm sure she is not dead, I think you would know."

Alexis glances at Althior standing nearby, and thinks that if they ever get married she's going to make sure nothing happens to their children.

[Myrddyn]

Erik walks through the front door into the hall, feeling a bit disturbed by the death of Daxus. As he passes the questboard on his way to the bar, a particular notice catches his eye.

Erik signs up for Quest #44: My Best Friend.

[Tachyon]

Mizuki stands at the graveyard in front of Daxus's gravestone and places Daxus's hat and ashes in front of his gravestone before leaving a bunch of white flowers and returning to the hall.

At the hall, Mizuki signs up for Quest #38: The Lost Party

Quest #40: The Strivvian Job

Quest #42: The Meaning Of It All

Quest #43: Protect My Brother

Quest #44: My Best Friend

Then Mizuki orders a bottle of whisky and brings it to Erik and Monk Pretzal before asking "Would one of you want to make a toast to Daxus ?"

Althior looked at Ellaria, who was obviously not getting better. "Hey, Ellaria. Alexis and I can take you to dinner tonight if you're up for it. Something to get your mind off of it."

[Sandy]

Haldor placed an arm on her shoulder.

"Don't worry, we'll get her back, just you watch, we'll find who did this. I suggest that we pay a visit to the apothacary, and try asking him if he can identify anyone who came to his shop on that day. We can check the list for anyone who stands out, and go from there. You room that you left her in, were there any signs of someone breaking in, perhaps through a window?" Haldor leant back in his chair, and grim expression over his features. His face hardened as he continued, and a slight crack formed of the handle of his mug of mead that he held rather too tightly in his right hand."And don't you worry about whichever piece of dirt hurt you back at your village, if it was him who took Elpis, I'm going to make him regret it."

Ellaria looked up at Haldor with despair in her eyes.

"The window was wide open, so obviously someone came in that way and grabbed Elpis, but I found no traces of climbing or any ladders nearby. And I was with Spriggan the whole day, we had just the usual customers. Old and poor people, but honest ones. Just ask around and keep your eyes open, that's all I'm asking of you."

Althior looked at Ellaria, who was obviously not getting better. "Hey, Ellaria. Alexis and I can take you to dinner tonight if you're up for it. Something to get your mind off of it."

Ellaria hesitated for a moment. She did not want to burden her friends, but just seeing them there made the pain easier to tolerate.

"That sounds... lovely. I'd love to, thank you."

She smiled at them all. A forced and thin smile, but a smile nonetheless.

The Norseman frowned."Damn, well it's all a lot deeper that I first thought. This isn't a chance crime for sure, no, this is bigger, no regular thug breaks into an ordinary building from outside just to take a child. Someone must have known that Elpis would be in that room alone, and targeted you to take her. Someone wants to find a way to hurt you Ellaria, and taking Elpis was their way of doing it." Haldor stopped himself for a moment before continuing. Maybe he had said too much, maybe it was too early to be thinking of conspiracies. But then again, it was all too organised to just be a random act of cruelty. He tried to reassure the girl, but he could tell by her expression that she was terrified. "But fret not about that, you go and enjoy your meal with Alexis and her pet clown. You could badly use a rest, staying like this won't help anyone." The Nord put on a weak smile, and stood up from the tabling, shouldering his pack and things, and strapped his weapon to his back. I'll stay here, keep a lookout, see what I can find. Gods know where Jess has got to."

I step into the hall which I notice is full of life. A distressed girl sits to one side with her friends, I assume, comforting her, a noisy brood drink vulgarly. Mizuki approaches me asking if I will toast to Daxus.

"I am sorry, young one, but I do not permit myself to touch ale or any such strong drink. I will toast with wine. That much I can do."

Suddenly, I notice the signup board is filled with quest appeals. "Excuse me for a moment," I turn and rush over to the quest board and study over the various quests, giving a grunt at the first.

"They want someone who had 'served in Haddon' indeed. They really should clarify what they mean. Obviously they mean that the someone must have served in Haddon whilst working for Heroics. They really must be more clear."

I read over the other quests.

"A duty for the town watch. Not particularly interesting, but the gold is good." I sign up. I read over the other quests just in case.

"What's this nonsense about getting a staff and it being the meaning of it all or something. Sounds idiotic to me. Nevertheless, they require a hero over level 10, with preference to Clerics for one, so that makes me perfect for the task. I suppose I could sign up, and use this quest as a backup one in case I can't make it onto the first. the pay is not bad either."

"Work for the Shadeaux?!? Indeed! But it could help to spread my influence over this rotten city. Perhaps it is in some way God's plan for me." I tentatively signup knowing I can always take my name off the signup sheet.

"What sort of tramp would give us one gold coin each. Must be a serious fool..." I feel a tug on my heart. "...Ack! Poor child. I guess it is my duty to signup for this, but I hope I don't need to go."

Tesni sat back in her chair. It was good to simply let the activities of the hall wash over her. She scanned the crowds for any sign of Eric, the nord had not come for his gold yet. She took a swig of her small beer from the tankard beside her and carried on the watch for familiar faces.

There was a lot of new blood in the hall from the looks of things, ones who had arrived when she was busy questing. None came near, but she knew what an imposing figure a berserker with several weapons was.

Chuckling wryly she thought of future activities.

[Palathadric]

"Mizuki and Erik, I hate to talk about money matters at this time, but it is important nonetheless. From my calculations the amount of loot was about equal. The profits we made, not including Mizuki's mugs were about even, all things considered. Remember that in this list I am deducting the items expended during the quest. The profits were:

Mizuki: 196 gold + Claw (WP1 upgrade) + Commerz Cannonball

Erik: 188 gold + Voltedge + Claw (WP1 upgrade)

Pretzel: 233 gold + Commerz Cannonball

I translated everything I could into the gold it was worth. And the remaining are the items I was unsure of. As you can see, it's quite even. Therefore, I will split the gold equally and we will each receive 200 gold. Now let us get on with the funeral preparations for my faithful follower, Daxus Octavian."

[K-Nut]

Ellaria hesitated for a moment. She did not want to burden her friends, but just seeing them there made the pain easier to tolerate.

"That sounds... lovely. I'd love to, thank you."

"Don't mention it. It's our pleasure." He put his arm around Alexis. Is was good to see Ellaria smile again.

"But fret not about that, you go and enjoy your meal with Alexis and her pet clown."

"Pet clown, Haldor? Does that make you the pet clown of Jess?" He laughed.

Haldor permitted himself a smile. "Oh no, I'm no clown, much more an unintelligent beast, like a bear. You should see the evenings, Jess keeps me on a leash. A lack of mead will do that to a man, much so to a Nord. We were all drinking it by the flagon long before we could walk."

Mizuki wakes up face first at the bar and wonders "How did I get here ?" before walking to the questboard and wiping her name off Quest #42: The Meaning Of It All and Quest #43: Protect My Brother

Alexis looked over at Althior. She had noticed he was starting to drift further and further away from her, climaxing in offering to bring Ellaria to the dinner they had planned for themselves. It was really starting to feel like he didn't care for her anymore.

"Sure," she forced a smile, for Ellaria's sake. "let's go."

[Darkdragon]

Finishing off her mug of liquid courage, Cinna decides to head over to Tesni's table. As she navigates through all the crying, yelling, and laughing people she manages to set a semi-cheerful smile upon her lips.

"Hi again!" She says to the berserker once she gets close enough to be heard. "Not sure if you remember me from a while ago, I'm Cinna. You are Tesni, right?"

[Zepher]

Boomingham clears his throat... Tesni has apparently forgotten that they were sharing a table. He pats her on the back.

"S'alright, Tesni. I know what it's like right after you've returned from a quest. Hard to focus on anything. Need a good strong ale and some quiet time to recollect your thoughts. Seems these wretched quests always dredge up the memories you least want dredged up. You can tell me about your newest adventures when you get the chance."

Boomingham prepares to leave the table, but plops right back down when he sees that they have company. He extends a hand to the young woman and winks pleasantly.

"Greetings, names Lord Boomingham. I'm a friend of this dear lady with the dirt in her ears. Cinna, you say? You a friend of Tesni's? Any friend of her's is a friend of mine, especially if they share her great gift of beauty, which you seem to. I haven't noticed you around the hall, been away, or new to these parts?"

[Darkdragon]

Cinna reaches out and grasps the loud man's hand.

"Well met sir. Yep, I'm Cinna. I don't know Tesni too well, but there's so many people here I don't know at all, and at least I do know her." She smiles nervously at the man.

"I've been around for a long time, but I just recently returned from a bit of a journey of my own. Had to have some time alone, to get my head on straight. You know what I mean?"

[RPGer]

Durkon sighed in boredom. He had nothing to do and he wished he could fight, which reminded him of his lost battle to En Sabuh Nur.

"Nur, want to fight for that scroll of confusion? I'd love to fight."

[Jebediahs]

"No."

[Peppermint_M]

Tesni shook her head with a start. "Gods I did it again yes? I really seem to work better when out on a quest. Was thinking about Haddon..." She smiled to Boomingham and Cinnia.

"Questing this round was interesting, we travelled quite far from Eubric to collect parcels and deiver them. Got stuck in a forsaken sewer, attacked by fish and food, ambushed twice while we slept... Got confused at a bank and fought some terrible badgers."

She took a swig of ale. "Got some good equipment though. Armour and a warhammer." She grinned. "Picked up some gems too, I have spares seeing as Eric wasn't interested and Namyrra had gathered what she needed." She whispered the last part. With so many thieves about she wasn't going to sing about them.

[Darkdragon]

"Extra gems? Wow that sounds amazing. What part of the world were you questing in? I hope it wasn't Salamanda, that place is so horrible."

She shivers at the thought trying to invade her head, staring at the wall behind Tesni, Cinna focuses on the smallest of cracks. She focuses all of thoughts into that crack and buries them there. A moment later she has regained her composure and hopes the other two at the table didn't notice anything stange.

"Have you..um..seen Maurice around anywhere lately?"

[Peppermint_M]

"He left us at the shop and then went somwhere. Probably somewhere away from Eric, those two were like cats in a box!"

[Darkdragon]

"Ah. I don't know Eric, but I gather he isn't a servant of the light if he fights with Maurice. Perhaps Eric should sit and talk with a cleric sometime, it can do wonders for clearing the mind of anger."

[Quarryman]

"Namyrra, here is your share of the gold. 514 each after I added in the bars. Seeing as Maurice left us he will have left the gold also." She grinned. "I am glad of some rest now though!"

"Dearest Tesni, that's an awfully large amount of gold, are you it's correct? Did you remember to subtract the gold I borrowed to buy that ruby back in Kelram? And I'd like my last of the six gems we got back at Favarious estate, seeing as you already have a topaz I guess that one's okay?"

[Zepher]

"Don't I ever. Seems my head is never on straight. I figured a while ago it was just meant to be crooked."

"So, same old same old?" Boomingham says with a chuckle. "These gems... what have you got lying around, and are any of them up for a trade, perchance. I'm looking for a number right now myself. Garnet, opal, diamond...?"
