Eric entered the Hall. He'd been away for a long time. A very long time. The place was overly crowded. Not to his liking. As he walked in some adventurers unknown to the Nord stared at him, as if they were his equals. Fools, they'd never be equals. Even though, Eric had seemingly spent ages South, he had still retained his rather pale complexion. Still a pure Nord, still mad at the world, still arrogant. Nothing changed, except the faces in the Hall.

Towering high above most of the Hall's inhabitants, it didn't take Eric too long before he had found the particular Berserker he was looking for. Calmly, he strode up to her, quite arroganly. Slowly striding, head up and chest forward, like a king walking to his throne before the eyes of the world. His pockets were tinkling with coin. The loot had been fat and it would only get better.

Shortly, he found himself in front of the table Tesni was sitting at.

"I believe you still have some coin for me?"

Tesni sat and thought for a moment. "Namyrra, the 514 gold does include what you owe me, it was 55 gold wasn't it?" She turned to Eric and took a clinking bag from her satchel. "Here you go Eric, 514 gold. The sum we earned from the quest added in with mixed coinage and loot sale." She then rummaged further. "For you m'lady." She handed the Topaz to Namyrra and then counted what was left. "I have a ruby and an emerald Boomingham, Cinnia. I have plans for my Topaz and the Diamond."

With a wide smile Tesni looked to her comrades.

"Grand plans, I'm sure. I'm glad to hear they'll at least go to good use."

Boomingham turns to one of his oldest companions. He had not seen the Nord since he had departed on his most recent quest, and even before that, they had hardly had a chance to catch up. Boomingham kicks a chair near him so that it skids away from the table slightly, allowing one to sit in it if they wished. The stunt works well, much to Boomingham's surprise.

"Care to sit and drink, Eric? You're among friends."

Tesni smiled at Cinnia. "Fancy a bit of fire magic eh? Well... When I was out on the quest a trader sold gems for a good amount and I do recall Elpheba selling rubies too, though I got this at some risk to my hide in a fraught battle... How about 60 gold? Not too bad a price I hope?" She let the light of the hall play on the facets of the ruby, it was a beautiful gem to behold but fire was never an element that brought fond memories to the warrior.

"Well, yes, I am a mage after all." :laugh:

Cinna checks her coin purse.

"Looks like I do have enough for that. Sounds like a fair deal to me." She smiles and hands Tesni the 60 gold

"Oh I'm sure I will. I'm planning to head over to the Training Hall in a little while. Maybe tomorrow, I'm a little worried about it actually. It's got to be done though, I need to get stronger to save Blu...er the uh little girl's friend in that quest up there, number fourty-four. Have you seen that one? Such a sad story."

"Oh that one looks very interesting. I think you'll do well. I'm afraid I did not follow all the quests or catch up in the library, so I'm not sure what Haddon is." She looks around at all the eager faces in the hall.

"Don't you find it strange that some folks just sign up for everything? I mean, don't they have an idea what they want to do, who they want to help? I wonder if they even read the quest board or if they just walk over and sign everywhere there's a blank line."

Boomingham laughed heartily. "Oh, my dear Cinna, where have you been? So young and yet so wise. The young boys and girls of this hall seek honor wherever they can, but that's not honor. If you're not fighting for something that you believe in, then you're just fighting. You must be selective. Don't just step into a brawl for the sake of brawling. There's no brains in that! Make sure the reward is worth it so you may turn around and put that gold to a proper cause, or make sure the cause is just. If you sign-up for everything, you're no hero, you're a sell-sword. Of course, if the quests that are just happen to be the ones that pay most... that's just a lucky coincidence, isn't it?"

"Fair point Boomingham, I try to place my services to help, sometimes I do simply sign on as a way to pass time. My cause is not for sale to the highest bidder but an adventure is an adventure." Tesni paused a moment. "I've fought massive direwolves and evil crows. I have fought the undead in a dusty cave. I was shrunk down and fought insects... I fought for a false cause once but realised that I fight for my skin and that of my comrades. My last quest was a chance to travel and I do not regret it. Hopefully my next will take me back to confront someone I met in the town of Haddon. Maybe I can help make up for the accidental wrong I did."

Cinna laughs at Boomingham's last statement the most.

"Yes, indeed a lucky coincidence at that!"

She looks seriously at Tesni as the berserker finishes speaking.

"Accidental wronged? I truly hope you find a way to make up for it and heal. I think sometimes those who hire us are so devious, so evil, they use us and then cast aside. On the quests, we all do our best to be true heroes, but sometimes we make missteps and innocent people get hurt. Or worse."

Her eyes drift back to the crack in the wall as she takes a drink of ale, not tasting it, just trying to look normal. Sitting at the table with these fine heroes she can't let them see any doubts, regrets, or weaknesses in her. Some day they may have to trust her to lead, and having them doubt her could create an end to everything.

Re-entering the hall, I am stunned by the amount of people I see. Apparently, several more quests have ended and the heroes are returning and packing the hall. For some reason, I feel horribly uneasy under these circumstances, with very few people I have any sort of acquaintance with around, and just wish that I could crawl into a corner and disappear. Unfortunately, all the "corners" are taken...

Siercon walked into the hall and back up to the quest board. He felt as though he had learned so much, but there was still so much to learn. He read the description of every quest. Then he signed them all. He signed up for 38 (except his name was already there), 43, 44, and the Fields of Glory. He figured he'd probably only get to go on 44, but at this point fighting and learning for free sounded fine. Then he took a seat on one of the nearby benches and watched the various heroes come and go. There seemed to be a lot of people 'hero watching'...

Althior held the door for Alexis as they walked into their room. As he shut the door, he looked at Alexis. "You okay? You seemed a bit quiet during dinner,"

She looked at Althior and sighed. "No not really. I feel that you don't see anything in me anymore, you've moved onto Ellaria! You invited her to our dinner!" Alexis yelled.

Althior stood, taken aback. He'd never heard Alexis yell before. "Ellaria? No! I mean, she's a great person, but no. I invited her to dinner to lift her spirits and I assumed you'd be fine with it, but if you weren't, I'm sorry."

"Sorry's not good enough!" Alexis yells again. "You've already done it, mother warned me about men, I should have listened."

"What exactly have I done? I invited our friend who lost their child to dinner! I can't reach out to our friends?" He yelled. He hated getting angry, and it was even more painful that he was yelling at Alexis.

"No you can't!" Alexis yelled back. "It just seemed wrong! Inviting another girl on our date!" She threw her hands up in disgust.

"What the hell was I supposed to do? Leave her there moping? If you had a problem with it, you could have said it then and there, instead of starting an argument now!" He yelled, eyes filled with rage.

"Well I didn't want to say anything in front of her and upset her more! Why did I have to pick the one non-sensitive Mage?" She rolls her eyes as she says it.

Althior stood back. He was hurt. "Not sensitive?" He crossed his arms, almost choking back a sob. "So understanding you wasn't sensitive? Being kind to you wasn't sensitive? I'll show you how I'm not sensitive," He slammed the door behind him.

As Althior slammed the door, Alexis threw herself onto her bed. "Why must men be so stubborn?" she thinks. She cries herself to sleep.

As he slammed the door, Althior heard Alexis begin to cry. What had he done? He wanted to turn around, but there was no turning back. Not now.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The next morning, Althior walked in with a new scar next to his right eye, the shape of a cut from a blade, and holding his balance on a makeshift cane. His shirt covered in dirt and his hat full of holes, he made his way up to the bar. He order a drink and took a great swig of it. "Another," His entire body ached. Is this what he got for trying to help people?
OOC: I had the pleasure of writing the arguement with my good friend Masked Builder. Any resemblances to other arguments (real or fake) is completely coincidental.
Haldor moved himself in from the rain, and, just for a change, headed for the bar. As usual these days, Jess had departed early in the morning to some unknown place, but Haldor thought not of what she could be doing. Since her sudden urge to leave their room, Skovgaard had decided to make some enquiries into the mysterious disappearance, braving the rain in his lack of appropriate clothing to check out sites around where Ellaria had been working that day. But he was a Nord, and the rain was the closest thing to home that he could reach, but in all his searches he failed to discover any hints to what may have happened. He'd try again tommorow, he promised himself, but soon he'd have to tell Ellaria the bad news.
Leaning up on the bar was the familiar robed figure of Althior, drinking alone. His gear looked curiously dirty and torn, and the Sage was hobbling around on a cane as though crippled. He looked rather worse for wear. Haldor approached and stepped in beside him, waving for a flagon of mead as he did so. As Althior turned to greet the arrival of his friend, the Norseman was shocked at the sight of bruising and blood encrusted to his face, and the red slit of a new scar in prominant display by the side of his eye.
"What the bloody hell happened to you, Althior? You've seen a lot better days, judging from this. Been getting yourself into fights, have you?" Haldor collected another strong drink from a grumbling Sceheherazade and placed it in front of his friend, who seemed to have gathered a large collection of empty glasses littering the area around him. "Drink this, it'll help, but I can see that you've already been sampling the benefits of this particular elixir. What happened, Althior? Tell me and I can help, Gods know you need it right now. You know you can confide in me."
"Actually I think it was 100 gold, seem to remember it all coming out of your pocket back at that magic shop in Kelram, so here's your 100 gold back, thank you so much for the loan. I hope I run into some icy beast or a beasty plant so I can test out that ruby properly."
(Updated gold for Namyrra: 414 (514-100), updated gold for Tesni: 755 (655+100))
Having thus settled her debt to Tesni Namyrra went to the quest board and signed up for Quest #44 and Unlimited Quest.
Althior lowered his drink to the table, moaning. "I doubt there's anything you could do to help me." He grabbed one of his empty glasses and spit some blood in it. "I've done it, Haldor, and now I can't turn back." He paused a moment before speaking again. "Another..."
Alexis enters the hall, eyes red, but stays well away from Althior keeping her back to him. She wants nothing to do with him, Alexis notices Tesni back and heads over to talk to her. "Hello Tesni, how was your quest? It's been quite a while since I saw you last."
Althior turned his head to see Alexis. A lump formed in his throat as he stared at her. He turned back to the bar. "Finnegan, stay here. Haldor, let's walk and talk..." He stood up, keeping his balance on the cane, and he limped out the door.
Tesni pocketed the gold from Namyrra as plans for her weapons upgrades danced in her head. Alexis joined her table, she seemed to be slightly off. "Ave Alexis, I am fine and ready to be off once more. Yourself?"
