"Nerwen, you, of all people, do not need a God to tell you what to do. Your path is yours, and there is no god that can mess with that. Think of what you want, once you have figured that out, you know what to choose. I have to agree with the nord to a certain degree, the Gods have their own schemes, and I would not let myself be an actor in their play. I like freedom, or the illusion of freedom, if that's all it is."

*snip*

Afterwords he got a drink, and on his way there, he met Nessa.

"Oh! Hello young Nessa. You have nothing to apologize for or ask my forgiveness. You said and did what you thought was right and you didn't insult me in any way; I respect that. As for the proof of your reliability, you don't have to show it to me, I have witnessed it myself. You did fine in Charis and no matter who you end up questing with next, listen to your party leader and you will do just as good as you did there." That last sentence Thalion said with a smile, but then he got more serious, "Now tell me, have you been to the temple yet? Those frequent faintings of yours cannot be good..."

"No I haven't been there, yet. Truly spoken I don't have a clue where to go." Suddenly Nessa got distracted.

*snip*

Nessa seems to siege Thalion. Amma sighs. Nessa had talked all the way back to Charis. Amma had hoped that they could talk and get some things clear. But the talk didn't go well. Nessa was somehow agitated and had started to accuse her again. Seems to be an never ending story, Amma thinks.

'There she is! Sort this out and retrieve our gem. It belongs to YOU! And get rid of that anoying dwarf NOW!' Trembled by the voice inside her head Nessa turned away from Thalion while she said with a fierce glimpse: "Would you please wait a second. I have to do something." Then she approached Stigveladi: "You again. We have to sort out this little problem, haven't we?" Nessa asked while giving the dwarf a despise look. "Hand over my gem and everything will be fine, will you? I don't want to fight you. You even would not have a chance. So, what is your answer?"

Posted

Seeing many people walking to the Quest Board then and again, Amma decided to have a look herself. Three quests were announced. One quest desired people with good relations to a family named the Bonapartes. She didn't even know them. Another quest was looking for inexperienced Heroes. Well, she had fought a war. But she felt still inexperienced. And the third quest asks for unknown Heroes. She did not know many people and she doubted that many would know her, especially outside the walls of this Hall. And she noticed the high rewards.

{I should sign up for Quest#57 (Green and Gone). So many gold and I think I match perfect. But I will put my name under the other quest as well, maybe they need one little more experienced Hero as well.}

So she writes her name carefully under Quest#57 Green and Gone and Quest#56 The Stealer of Senses:

Stigveladi Kötturin

She has just finished writing her name as Nessa approaches her. Amma had not realized that she was in the Hall as well. She sighs and turns around. "Nessa, I don't have your gem. It's my own. I feel sorry about what happened to you, but you really start annoying me. I thought we had worked this out and then, on the ship, you started this fight again. What's up with you? Leave me alone."

She pushes Nessa aside and walks towards the doors.

Nessa held back the dwarf. "I don't believe you. And if you don't want to leave my property to me voluntarily I will take it by force. So you have the decision: Give me back the gem or I'll challenge you for a duel. Either way, this ends here!"

Guts had noticed Eric's cold stare. He remembered him. The norseman had tried to intimidate him, and had made it very clear he was superior to him, if memory served. When he finally spoke up, Guts said:

"You're speaking from experience, I take it?"

It took the pale viking some moments before replying. He was indeed speaking from experience, but he'd never admit that to these people. His problems and goals were his own. He'd deal with it. By himself, alone, just like he's been all this time now. Eric dryly said: "The Norse sagas are littered with examples of heroes caught in the schemes of the Gods. All Vikings know the sagas and songs of our heroes."

"To the Gods, whatever they may want."

Eric raised his beaker, as well, even though he hardly knew any of the people at the table. “Skál”

I have to agree with the nord to a certain degree, the Gods have their own schemes, and I would not let myself be an actor in their play. I like freedom, or the illusion of freedom, if that's all it is."

The bald man said it right. Eric gently nodded in agreement and grimaced. “Speaking of freedom, there is something I have to do”.

Slowly, the Nord Raider got up, wary of any side-effects of having too much drink. Luckily for him, his tall stature and bulky mass saved him once more of any heavy effects alcohol might have. He hardly felt drunk at all. While the heroes had been talking about the gods and whatnot, Eric heard someone mentioning a new Bonaparte quest was put it. With sure strides, he walked to the Questboard and read the different posters, until he found the right one. He chuckled.

“Looks like old Reno might need my help if he wants to continue his scheme of ending the Bonaparte rule of the Crystalline Sea.”

With that thought in mind, he signed up for quest #58: Brothers in Arms.

Jeaux stopped for a moment to read the 2 new postings on the questing board. It seemed someone was looking for unknown heroes, a description that fit him rather well. There was another quest asking for heroes with good relations to the Bonaparte family. Jeaux had heard the name and read a previous quest log dealing with that family, but he had not had the chance to meet any of them in person.

He signed up for Quest #57: Green and Gone, before returning to his drink.

IC: De'kra remarked softly, "I worry some about idea of gods. From what I hear there are groups that claim deities told them to commit terrible crimes, and that not sit well and I. I hear of paladins commiting genocides, which no god could wish for and still be good. Even if that lie, could the opposite be true. Might some people do good only because they think gods want them to be good? It so confusing in Eubric."

Guts saw the little demon in the corner of his eye, standing next to the table, and shook his head. He remarked:

"For something that claims not to be from here, and not understanding this place, you have an awful lot of opinions."

IC: De'kra shrugged, "it just like how you call I demonspawn, yet I not from here nor demon. I not sure if it accurate or not, I just voice potential concerns base on what I see."

My path is indeed mine, and I must walk it. But am I wrong for seeking light so that my foot does not stumble? I have used the powers of the gods to heal others in five quests now, what kind of ungrateful child would I be to turn away and refuse their help now? I am free to refuse my path of course, just as you are.

Oh Kiirar, who told you that every act of every god is good? You yourself have spoken of evil spirits. And often the motives and purposes of Gods are incomprehensible, and bad things are done to avoid greater evils. Does this make it right? Who knows?

But if some people are good because they think that is what is required by their gods, how is that anything but good?

Outside of Heroica Hall, the din can be heard from outside. Leaning against the fence outside, a pale woman fidgets with her dagger, her face covered by a mask.

"It's gotta be good, it's gotta be memorable." She mutters to herself. "My entrance must be one that everyone in that hall will be talking about for years." Finally an idea dawns upon her, as she triumphantly marches up the steps, and reaches the grand set of doors.

"Here goes nothin'." She states, takes a deep breath, then kicks the doors and struts into the hall.

Not a single head turns.

"Ignorant jerks." She mumbles, taking a few steps forward. She doesn't get to far however, before slipping, falling flat on her face.

Quite a few people turn to see the pale faced rouge slip and fall face first onto the glossy floor.

"Great Karie, you aspire to be remembered, and you certainly have." She thinks to herself, before getting back up on her feet. She works her way to the bar, squeezing into the crowd.

"You got anything without dairy, I'm lactose intolerant."

Leaving the bar with her glass of Falana Wine, Karie skims the quest board.

"Inexperienced, and not well known. AKA expendable. Sounds like fun."

Karie signs up for Quest #56 and Quest #57

She then heads back up to the bar and looks around for a place to sit, and finds a nice corner table to herself, and begins to reminisce.

Brickington notices a new girl in the Hall sitting all alone. He takes the opportunity to be the first one to greet her. He says, "I'm as new as you, but welcome to Heroica!"

Karie snaps out of her daydream and looks up at the man in armour.

"Your a knight I take it? Karie Alderflask, nice to meet you."

She puts her feet up on the table and motions for the knight to sit down.

"And your name is?"

Rule of Rogue #34: The best things in life are free.

"You know, why not. You seem like a nice lad. Lamb chops would be nice right about now. Haven't had that for a while, and on that note, I haven't even gotten through this Falana Wine yet, but when I do, I'll remember to tell you."

Karie leans inwards towards Brickigton.

"As to why I'm here, I escaped from the Eubric jailhouse after killing a noblewoman for her belongings. I killed three guards during my escape, and now, I'm on the run."

Karie grins delirously, and begins to snicker.

"Only pulling your leg! No, in all honesty, works a little hard to find back home, especially for a rogue. So, I packed what little belongings I owned and "aqquired" ships passage to Eubric after hearing of the Heroica Guild. And yourself? Why are you, of all people here. You must have some amount of money, being a knight."

Lord Boomingham, the spirit makes my point. If he manipulates circumstance to bring you to a situation, does he not also get some merit for the results?

Nerwen gently takes the bottle from Guts and pours some into Lawrence's cup.

Wine is better shared.

"If he were smart enough to manipulate me into a position, maybe. Besides, don't seem like much of a path if you can just wander off it at any time." Boomingham says, though he smiles at the wine as she pours it into his goblet. He sips at it and Barty flits over to Nerwen.

"No matter what that oaf says, the Gods do watch and do remember, Nerwen. Do not refuse their help now, and do not refuse your path. You have been good so far, even with your doubts- you have been a light even when you thought it blinded, so know this, fair one. The God of Light is not blind. He knows what his followers do, he is always watching. The thing which hunted Karg of the Shivering Axe was not from Ennoc. We had no hand in that. Continue to shine bright."

"Stop bothering the nice lady," Boomingham growls.

Posted (edited)

Sir Brickington motioned for a waiter.

"Lamb Chops for the lady please. On to your question, you could say that I have been able to make a decent living or so where I am from. My father was a quite wealthy man and when he passed I obviously received a handsome amount of inheritance. But I never believed I should live off my father's money, so I gave it away and made my own money which turned out to be much more than the amount I had received from my father. I lived a life of luxury and still do to some extent, but something was missing back at home. I was missing adventure, I was missing out on helping out people in times of need. So that explains why a guy like me would be here. Sorry for the long talk, I must be boring you."

Nerwen gasped when the small figure delivered the message from Ennoc. It had been more than a century since she had befriended the Orc. Hunted, haunted and outcast he had taught her many things about his people. His death in the night had occasionally brought itself to mind. Now Barty's pronouncement reminded her of him. She needed to meditate, to recall that time fully.

Visibly shaken she stood and said quietly.

Thank you. I... must go.

Boomingham slams Barty into the table after he sees Nerwen depart.

"You little monster. What'd you say to make her leave?! And she took the wine. Are you trying to get me to stop drinking?"

Barty looks up innocently. "She left on her own merit. I'm not smart enough to manipulate anyone, remember, Lawrence? We do everything of our own accord."

Guts watches Nerwen's exit, and then just sits opposite of the Paladin for a while. He did not trust his little yellowish companion, but it seemed like the Paladin himself did not either. Eventually, the Raider got up and walked towards the bar. When there, he leaned over, and grabbed a new bottle from under the bar, where Scheherazade kept them. She had not changed the location even though a lot of bottles were disappearing. She must like him, Guts figured. When he sat back down, he poured some in Boomingham's and his cups, then said:

"So. What's it like being king?"

While waiting for an answer by the dwarf, Nessa turned around after the announcement of sign ups for quest #56. Hadn't she put her name already on that list? She wasn't sure. So she signed up for Quest #56
