Sarge notices the undead taking offence, and knowing and respecting the bugger from his first quest. Sarge comes to sorrow's aid, Not to say he needed it. If you would stop being so rude and more welcoming and courteous Milady. Or are you elves prejudice to undead too? Take a leaf from Erdathcath's book.

Sarge takes a moment from the argument to mutter a word of advice to the newly-found assassin (Mizuki). You should sell those cookies miss, two pops a piece. Make your fortune. Then returns to the debate.

William downs his coffee, "Isn't it supposed to be 2 gold pieces a pop?" he wonders aloud.

Boomingham's head swims. He has, as always, drank too much upon returning to the hall. Conversation, and not shockingly, arguement, had sprung up around him, but he simply sipped his wine and kept his peace. He would retire soon, but for the time being listened to the voices around him, angry for one reason or another, all of them demanding respect for things he didn't understand. His response was sloopy, but it was the only thing he could think of.

"You want respect, you earn it. Do something worth respecting. Let other people see it. Then you will get respect, you guess."

Have you met one Wind Mage, Arasmyth by name? I am supposing he is out on a quest, but seeing that you have been spending more time in the hall than I, in recent weeks, I wonder if you may know of him or on which quest he is."

My apologies for interrupting. I know the one of whom you speak. He fell in the quest to rescue the Maa'ri orcs. You may want to speak to Byblos the Librarian if you wish to know more about that quest, there are none around now to tell the tale.

"Tell me, do you think it is simple to locate and stab an enemy's nerve cluster from a single run-by?"

I do not. But we have had this discussion in Miranda. You are a capable fighter when you choose to be, you are simply often distracted by the coins. We are all different people with different priorities.

Perhaps you have misunderstood the situation, Essahgay. Sorrow and I recently quested together, we have a history and I respect his ability with his blade. I have not said anything to Mizuki that I have not already said to Sorrow directly.

As for prejudice against the undead, Sorrow and I have also spoken over that topic also. He understands the reasons for my antipathy and accepts that I am withholding judgement at this time due to his unusual nature.

As for Erdy's leaves, I think they are in her tea, not her books.

"Oh, no, the abomination has returned. Tell me how goes questing for Heroica, coin stealer, purse robber? It's a wonder how some people justify the robbing of others by adding a title "Hero" to their name. Scum and Vermin of the earth! Abominations in the eyes of God! Abomination, do you know that your words are not your own? Have you never realized that? I suppose not, since you don't have a mind of your own. Please, don't argue on that point. If you want we can split up whatever cranium you may have to prove it to you, and believe me, I would take pleasure in such an activity, If it weren't that the emptiness that is your head may corrupt the life and fullness of this hall."

Mizuki starts munching on a cookie and watching the pirate argue with Nerwen.

I pick a cookie from the pile.

"May I?"

The elf may be prejudiced against the undead, but it would not be without good reason. These abominations should not be walking freely on the streets of Eubric, muchless ambling through the hall calling themselves "heroes." Perhaps you should listen to the words of wisdom the elf speaks."

"Do not advise the young lady thus, McEncy! Mizuki is the finest rogue I know. At least she is more focused on winning the fight than on collecting coins, so it doesn't seem too bad when she collects some coins on the way. Not like Eric there who runs off with coins and does nothing to help the fight. Mizuki is the best I have seen of a rogue and actually makes me believe that salvation may not be lost to them."

I stagger back somewhat. Why is that two heroes have died in the hall recently, and both of them were associates of mine? Is God trying to tell me something. Have I not been passionate enough in trying to bring men to Him.

I sit down heavily in a seat opposite the table where the argument is ongoing and wipe the ever-increasing sweat from my forehead.

It seems even life here is shorter than I would imagine. It seems...but why in the hall is their no sorrow over the dead? It is a bad omen. With the acceptance of abominations such as these men lack respect for the sanctity that is life. God help us!

In the words of my people, those from Teh-internetz; u racist? Actually, don't answer that.

Amma comes back into the Hall, not being noticed by others. It's rather loud and some Heroes seem to argue at a table. {Looks like there is a lot of alcohol and passion involved. Not my business.} She goes to the Quest board and notices that Quest#56 already left without her. {It can't hurt to register for Q#58 as well. I don't know this family, but it's not to late for getting involved in these family's businesses.} She writes down her name under Quest#58: Brothers-in-Arms carefully:

Stigveladi Kötturin

After that Amma scampers to the armchairs at the fireplace and sits down. A short while later she falls asleep.

"Really, McEncy, I think you would know better than to refer to the Undead as a race. To even claim such is to show a weakness of the head and that you are not thinking your own thoughts, but are manipulated by a mage or necromancer somewhere."

"You people amaze me. I burned to death and I have been persecuted for more then 400 years, every single one of my loved ones dying or being crippled at one point or another. Why so bitter?"

"Though I don't feel that you are worthy of receiving an answer, I shall give on for the benefit of others. We are not bitter against you, we are opposed to all who can't think for themselves and who are just a body with no mind, heart, or conscience, operated by some mage or necromancer in some location, not unlikely far, far away. Even you can't deny that undead are mindless zombies suited only to the desires of those who wish to corrupt others. Not unlike a certain creature that I fought against some time back in the commerz cavarns. "Beings of Ether" they call them. Bah humbug! Man cannot create minds that think, that gift only comes from God. A dead mind cannot be revived by the wishes of some mage, no matter how powerful they may be. Face it, undead, you are not thinking for yourself. Clearly, though, the mage or necromancer operating you will not allow you to see that, so arguing with you is pointless."

"A genius is someone who has exceptional intellectual ability, creativity, or originality, typically to a degree that is associated with the achievement of unprecedented insight." Righttttt.... Intellect? Nope. Creativity? Questionable :sceptic: Originality? You look like a pirate who couldn't afford a pegleg and got a stick instead."

I do not believe we have met. My name is Nerwen Calmcacil. I understand your antipathy towards the undead, but I am not certain Sorrow is a just target of your rage. You speak of his being controlled by Mage or Necromancer. I do not think that is the case here. He appears to genuinely possess a will.

If you had listened to him speak of his history, you would know that he was human. He was reanimated by one he calls father, who it can be surmised, was human too. Although I have not met every human, I do not know of one who has lived beyond six score years. Especially Necromancers, whose meddling in dark magic ends to shorten their lives, often violently. Sorrow speaks of being more than four hundred, therefore the Necromancer who raised him is long dead. Sorrow too should have returned to the peace of death. But he has not, there is something very strange about him, he is not an undead of the sort that you rail against. Perhaps you would do well to sit for a short while and contemplate the truth of my words.

I, further gather from your speaking of a singular god that you do not come from around here. As a friendly warning, be careful about your monotheistic cant, you will find others with pointed words on that subject.

That is very learned of you William, but are you quite well? Your voice had an odd cadence to it that made some parts sound like a choir all speaking at once.

"Monk Pretzel," I reply. "I appreciate the advice, although it is not new to me, I have suffered much at the hands of those who blind themselves to the truth of monotheism, and attempt to blind others while they are at it.

"I would also give you a warning of my own, that you must be careful and watch the way you speak. Giving credence and ear to beings that are raised or created unnaturally and unsupernaturally is dangerous. Do not take a dark path for your life. I hear the veterans are making necromancer an "Expert Class" or "Master Class" or something of the like. When these things seem into Heroica it proves that Heroica is just a building ready to crumble and it only holding up because of the strong foundation it was built on. Even now one can see heroes living selfishly and going on quests to fill their pockets more than to help others in need. It is a sad state indeed. Back in the day, such heroes would not have been permitted to set foot in the hall, but now...it seems everything goes.

"Tell me, elf, have you met one, Erik? He's a barbarian by class, but a kind-hearted one."

"I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss my father as dead, miss Nerwen. or everything I've ever done since that day has been for naught. The dark arts can often have the opposite effect... Have... have you ever heard of the Animutilav, by any chance?"

My face furrows up in reluctance. Could the heroes of this hall handle this information? Syntax's voice rings in my ears, nearly devoid of its usually snark. His voice sounds thoughtful... perhaps even mournful.

"It is going to be brought to light eventually. Why not now?"

...It is not an incantation I like to speak of often. You see, a Animutilav is, for all intents and purposes, a scroll, albeit one with several complications. It can only be used on someone - or rather, someone's soul - merely once. If a soul is in disrepair, floating aimlessly without a mortal vessel, the Animutilav tethers it to the body... essentially reviving someone. However, if used on someone with their soul already intact, a far more agonizing thing occurs. The incantation literally mutilates their body and soul well beyond all repair, their soul literally cracking into peices and becoming disjointed from the body. Of course, the process isn't instant, and certainly not pleasant; probably akin to the feeling of having one's body slowly being torn to shreds. I have heard tales of a creature who, after it was used on him, managed to force his soul back into his body, albeit not completely. They say shattered parts of his soul drift in the land of the mortals and the land of the dead... essentially trapping him in limbo. Since that day, the creature heard the whispers of the dead every waking moment..."

I bury my head in my hands, drawing a few sharp sighs.

"...As you can probably guess, it was the Animutilav that gave me back my life."

"Animutilav... "The Mutilator of Souls"..."

"Yes, yes, yes, and yes. Before I answer your question regarding my 'type of monotheism,' I have to ask you one thing myself: What is your definition of a god?

"I trained under 'The Miracleworker' as he called back in earliest days of Heroica. At the time, I had been warring with the paladins against the orcs. It was a remarkable time then, when Heroica first started, but it did not last too long. I was called away on a quest helping a country far, far away to recover from a drought of many years. It was one of the hardest tasks I have been given. But it was that time in that land that I was able to think clearly and, if you will, 'discover God.' I was there for many years though, and when I left I dwelt for a long time in other lands going from temple to temple and monastary to monastary, but always being rejected for my views. It culminated when I put up my 99 pieces on the temple doors. Apparently, the priest did not see the truths derived from the message therein through the symbolisms, and he ejected me from the temple. It was then that I realized that those with the truth will always be rejected by those who fear the truth and what it may expose. Since then I have lived the life of a hermit before I heard that Heroica had been opened once again. I came myself to discover whether or not it was true. That was over a year ago now. Since then I have freed a village from the terror of a demon and his ilk attacking it, I have rescued the Bank of Commerz from the 'beings of ether' that had overturned their vault, and I have rescued a man and his son from the evils of living a life of wizardary and sourcing. By the end of it, he had become a slave to a staff he created, and he attempted to steal the mind of his son and many others, but we destroyed the staff and cured him of the evil spell."
