Noticing the magical z-mail appear on the quest board, I prepare for my next quest. To my surprise, there was only one Hero I knew- Sorrow.

"Looks like it's my fourth quest with you. Can't catch a break can I?" I say with a slight chuckle, and walk out the door.

"Times are hard on everyone in Eubric these days, but the Order stands firm and will ride out the storm like it has always done."

"You have been with the order for a long time?"

"We now have animals roaming the hall and going out on quests?" I groan aloud. "What is the world coming to?"

Alexander sees a z-mail coming in tha hall and posts itself on the Questboard, he approaches and sees that he is one of the chosen heroes for Qiest 57: "Great" says, looking towards "Thalion, we are in the same quest. I'm very happy to have a quest with you another time." Then he lefts the Hall, a new adventure is coming.

"You have been with the order for a long time?"

"Yes, about five and twenty years it adds up to. I served as a Soldier of the Light for a long time before joining Heroica."

Thalion nodded and smiled, "Same here my friend. I guess we will have to reschedule that wine I mentioned in the arena for after the quest... Now, I have to get some supplies but we'll meet at the Ziegfried's manor."

Barty finds Boomingham asleep in a room above a tavern. The little angel beats the Lord with his entire tiny body until Boomingham stirs.

"We're going. Dealing with wizards. Your favorites."

"Did I sign up for this one, or did you?"

"You're to blame, Lawrence. As always. I thought you gave a whole speech about how you choose your actions, no other forces."

"I guess alcohol is sort of like a God then- it picks my fate without always deciding to inform me. Ah well, onwards and upwards."

The two intrepid heroes step out into the cool morning and Barty leads the way to the Zeigfried Manor.

"How holds the order in this dark time? The corruption of Eubric is so thick, that I wonder if the order manages to stay pure or if it's slowly sinking into the Abyss that is the rest of Eubric. It seems even "hero" will soon be a title any man can adopt if he so chooses."

I sigh.

"Every organization has its own problems, be it dishonorable heroes, demon possessed family members or corrupt employees. The Order mostly battles with internal conflict of the power of the Order. The disunion is of course limiting the Order's power, but thanks to a great devotion to the Order's values and strong faith in Ennoc from the representatives from both sides we have survived. The recent turmoil in Eubric has actually brought the conflict to an armistice to be able to stand united against an external threat, much thanks to the leadership of High Priestess Alisameth."

"That is good to hear. The power of truth shines the brightest when the world is at its darkest as they say. Speaking of 'demon-possessed family members' is this condition common in Eubric these days. Most of my quests have taken me out of Eubric, so except for life in the hall, I am not too familiar with the ways of the common-folk of Eubric. The pollution is too great. How is the order fairing as far as new converts are concerned?"

Amma awakes as another group is leaving the Hall for a new quest. Apparently she was again not chosen. She turns around in her chair to get a more comfortable position. Her short neck already hurt and her beard had been tucked between her arm and the arm of the chair.

While she was slouching in the chair, doubts about her fate arose again. Nobody seems to be interested in her services as a Hero. Granted, she has been in Eubric only for a short while. But she already feels useless.

She remembers her first quest. She had an argument with the Elven Mage Thalion at the end, where he accused her of being useless for the party. Had she been this bad? Amma thinks of the present she got from this Father Grogmas. The Scroll of Inspiration. A scroll for advanced ether-users. Casting this scroll would take almost all of her ethereal strength. Was this thing really useful for her? Amma sits up and fishes the Scroll out of her bag. She unfurls it and holds it against the light of the fire. The power that emanates from this piece of paper sends a chill down her spine. She quickly rolls it up again and wants to jam it in her bag.

In doing so her eyes fall on the little cat statuette. She gets it out and looks at it. {It looks exactly like Grettir. Boy, that was a nice cat. I miss you so much. If only he could be here, I had someone to talk to.}

Amma puts the statuette carefully back in her bag and tries to clear her mind. She looks around in the Hall to see who is still there. She recognizes nobody. All members of her party seem to have left. With a deep sigh she stands up and walks over to the bar. Sitting down on one of the stools, she orders an herbal tea.

Mizuki watches a dwarf walk to the bar and ordering a cup of herbal tea. She looks at her cup of tea which has just started to steep. She tells the dwarf "You should get something like a slice of cake or a pastry with your tea."

Stigveladi turns around, surprised that somebody addresses her. "Eh, what? Cake? Some pastry? What's that? Can you drink it as well?"

Mizuki says to the dwarf "Cake is a bread like food which is usually baked and sweet. It can be customized with different toppings like honey or sugar." "Pastry is sort of like a baked dough made from flour, sugar, milk and butter topped with sweet stuff like strawberries or chocolate." "Oh yeah, by the way my name is Mizuki, what's yours ?"

Posted

"Something to eat? Sounds like a great idea. Could have been mine, indeed" She turns to to Scheherazade: "Get us two pieces of this cake- or pastry-thing, will ya? I bet you have something like that here."

She indicates the black lady with the strict haircut to sit next to her. "I guess, we'll have a kaffeeklatsch now. My name is "Stigveladi", yes, like "lady" in the end. Nice to meet you Mizuki. Your name sounds quite strange in my ears, what is hardly surprising in a multicultural place like this. Where do you come from?"

En Sabah Nur ambled into Heroica Hall. He involuntarily flinched and quickly brought the back of his right hand to cover his nose as he was hit by an offensive cloud of body ordor. The source, no doubt was from the saloon upstairs and the various patrons who use it as a camp ground. His nose acclimated and he grinned as he realized his own stench must add greatly to the funk.

Nur squinted as he raised a finger and went through the names on the recently closed quests. "A shame. I've just missed Boomingham." The paladin wasn't the only one he had missed. Nur made his way to the Gallery to browse through the portraits.

"The demon-possessed family member was just aimed at the Ziegfrieds, I doubt anyone else is affected. Unless there happens to be another family dabbling with dark magic.

The followers of Ennoc grows steadily but slow. Often more so on the countryside than in the city where the people's mind is filled with greed and gluttony."

"I certainly pray that there is no one else, but I am led to believe that there are many who aspire to acheive what the Ziegfrieds have achieved, (and by that I mean their power, not their demon-possession) and as such, they expose themselves tremendously. It is a sad world where 'magic books' are easily available to the general populace. The so-called 'magic' therein does nothing but take people one step farther down the wrong path into utter darkness...

"Well spoken there. It is unfortunate that where the crowds are and where the truth could be most effective, is where it is most rejected. I am afraid that even the country is starting to be polluted by the darkness of the city, though.

"I do not believe you have told me your name, Paladin. Monk Pretzel, here."

"There are few who can be trusted, but considering the influx of magic items and artifacts to Heroica I could say the same about almost any hero. The ones with a talent for magic are often weak against its depraving powers."

"Well, there will always be both Light and Darkness. All we can do is to keep praying and keep working for our cause.

Pleased to meet you, Monk Pretzel. My name is Maurice Ratibor."

Mizuki nods to Stigveladi and tells her "I come from a land in the east, south of the country of Xu. Its name is Njango and it's a country of diffrent prefactures ruled by the lords of the land, the samurai. I was born in a clan of shadow warriors who were paid for diffrent missions but while my family was content to fight for samurai, I always just wanted to adventure around the land. So one day I sneaked onto a trading ship heading to EUbric and I've just lived my life doing missions for my employers. I hope that my sister is still alright......" Mizuki sighs before asking Stigveladi "So where do you come from ?"

"Ratibor?" I pause for a moment. "Are you from the Free Islands? Have you been on many quests here at Heroica? I am always interested in hearing of others' experiences with Heroica. Sometimes, it can seem like nothing is changing for the better when one only looks at what he himself is doing, however, in the bigger scope of things, much is being accomplished for the better due to the efforts of many doing their part."

"Interesting. Njango sounds like a land far, far away. I am pretty sure, I've never been there. I lived in several places now, at last I had a small cave in a forest near the mountains. I am sorry, I am really bad in geography and I have totally no idea, how my homeland is called here in Eubric. I don't care though." Stigveladi gets somewhat quieter. "It's my past. Now we are here and that's what counts, am I right?"

She cheers up and clears her mind. Her fork pricks into the piece of cake, Scheherazade has placed before them. Taking a juicy morsel, she says with her mouth full: "Mmhh, it's quite good. Pretty sweet. We have something similar where I come from. They call it sætabrauð (sayta-browth). This is not as good as that, but almost."

She swallows the bite. With her mouth now empty, she asks:

"May I ask, why you are so ... dark? Was this always your appearance? Looks quite frightening."

Mizuki drinks a cup of tea and laughs as she hears Stigveladi's question before answering "I grew up wearing black because it was easier to hide away at night and play pranks on people. Since i've worn the colour for so long, I just guess its part of me." Mizuki pours some jasmine tea from the pot and asks Stigveladi "What talents or powers do you have ?"

Posted

"Playing pranks? So, I better watch out, eh?"

"I learned to use the ethereal powers while studying the nature. I thougt I knew much, but when I came here, I saw many talented mages, that are much more powerful than I am. Maybe I'll learn some of their powers some day as well."

"I was just on a mission to defend a small town against a group of knights. It was tough sometimes and I got hurt several times, nigh unto death once. What kind of missions or quests did you attend? Have you been in danger a lot?"

Posted

Mizuki answers "So you're a mage, what elements can you manipulate ? On a side note I'll answer your other question, In my second quest with Heroica, my party had to clear a bank vault of some ceatures called proggs. In the end their leader killed one of my freinds and nearly killed the rest of us." Mizuki sighs and says "Rest In Peace, Daxus."

"Wow, so you saw a Hero falling forever. This is sad. For now, I can only deal with ice effects. I hope I can get my hands on some other elements as well. From what I understand, you have to possess at least a bit of a gem, representing the element. Then - with a lot practicing - you can control these elements."

Amma lifts her long beard and a necklace appears. "You see? This is a fragment of an Opal. He represents the power of the Ice. I hope to make this necklace full of elements soon."
