Masked Builder Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 Nerwen replied to Alexis You must have left when you were quite young, I can see that, even though you are 'quessir, you cannot have seen more than fourty summers. As for my adventures, three times I have overthrown tyrants, twice I have freed the imprisoned. I have fought demons and monstrosities, I have fought man-folk, deluded and warped by power. I have travelled in time and had the hands of fellow heroes turned against me. I expect I am no different from yourself in all that. I have quested with a few assassins, a short rogue who speaks in clicks and another hooded one who was shattered by necromantic magic. You are the first assassin I have seen though, who does not shadow their face. Tell me, how much do you know of your people, of your gods and your birthright? "I must admit I've barely seen 20 summers." Alexis blushes a little. "No hoods aren't really my thing. I left only two years ago, and remember very little of my people. Gods and birthrights I also remember very little of." Quote

Chromeknight Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 Nerwen was a little taken aback by Alexis' admission she was only twenty. Where I am from twenty is only barely enough to be let out into the surrounding forests. Even then we still expected to be studying for another half dozen years. I know the short lived edan do things differently. They rush out into the world with less training and muddle through somehow. It is not a better or worse way, just different. But twenty... I could have a granddaughter your age. And I am not old among my people. If there is anything you want to ask me anytime, about differences between elves and men, please do not hesitate to. Nerwen paused, sitting back in the chair by the fire and taking time to study Alexis. Her attire and weapons, the set of her mouth and the way she carried herself. Stilling her thoughts and listening to the rhythms of heartbeat and breath, of stretch and fidget, Nerwen began to understand the lithe assassin a little better. Quote
Flipz Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 Arthur feels the glow of energy as De'kra writes in the Journal. Would he answer? Arthur thinks. What harm can it cause? But I must be wary. Thank you, De'kra. Your thoughts on Wren are spot-on. Cronk and Nyx...you met them both in Dastan, yes? They and I fought...not with weapons, thankfully, but with words far sharper than any blade. They no longer speak to me, as I deserve, but even so I can tell they are distraught...broken inside, somehow. In a way, they were destroyed by what happened, and reborn as new creatures...creatures in great pain. And I made it worse by my words and actions. Hans, Felton, the first Wren Hunters; Triad, loyal Ranger of Heroica; Bennetton, Gnash, brave Town Watchmen; Passion, a god...all of them dead. All of them dead, when it should have been me. I...I... Haldor and I have fought, before the entire Hall. He called me traitor. I'm beginning to think he was right. But then again... I disobeyed the party's wishes. They say that is betrayal. But if that's true, does that mean there is no room for thinking differently than the majority? Is standing back when others do what you believe is wrong truly a betrayal of the wrongdoers? Is there no choice but to do evil by refusing to obey the group or otherwise do evil by obeying it? And is it truly evil to make a mistake when deceived by a lie? But it doesn't matter. One way or another, I am wrong--either I betrayed my party, or I believed in a cause that turned out to be evil. And my words to them all were filled with venom and hate. Either way, I must seek penance, redemption. I must perform the good that the dead would have done. And it will destroy me. There is darkness inside me that cannot be cleansed, and it will be my undoing. I will die snuffing it out, or at least die trying. I think we are nearing the end, Brother. It heartens me to see true Heroes walk this world, and I cannot drag you down with me. I fear our path together ends here. I am grateful beyond measure that our paths have run alongside each other for so long. But mine falters and descends into darkness. Yours journeys on to light. Thank you so, so very much for all your advice, all your honesty, and most of all, your friendship. I will remember you as my friend and brother forevermore, and if there is ever anything I can do for you, you need only send word. If there is, in fact, a state after life, I hope to watch over you from there someday. But for now...play well, brother. --Arthur Closing the book for what might well be the final time, Arthur retreats outside the Hall once more, pausing but once to glance at the Elven Assassin he loves. A single tear runs down his cheek, but he quickly turns away, hoping that neither Alexis nor the Elf she was speaking with had noticed him at all. Quote
Chromeknight Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 Concentrating on Alexis, Nerwen feels the room change as another looks at the elf also. With an imperceptible shift of her attention she sees a young man, another rogue by his appearance, looking at Alexis. Nerwen recalled him from Dastan, an eager mage named Arthur. He was friends with the short rogue, De'kra. Clearly there was something between him and Alexis. There was the trace of tears on his face. She spoke softly to her companion. What is between you and Arthur? He looks at you like you hold his heart. Quote

We got him eventually, which was no mean feat, but he managed to persuade crooked gentleman Nur into letting him go. That quest bears a resembelance on the surface to this new one, so if you're interested, you might want to read Quest #6's account, to give you an idea of what you're facin'." Quote

Alexis again tries to keep the sadness from her voice. Every living thing loves. That's what it is to be alive. And elves feel the heat of fiery love no less than the edan. Though humans, being brief in life, rush into things. We who live longer do not need to hurry. After all, it is the well banked forge fire that does work, not the pile of kindling which burns quick and bright. I would counsel caution and patience, but you are young and experience is a good teacher. Edited April 13, 2013 by Chromeknight Quote

Chromeknight Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 Second man? That is surprising. Although if they have both been here with Heroica, this environment is not the best for forming solid relationships. Having one or other going away for months at a time, having tense situations with other groups of people and building new bonds there is not good for pair bonding. Also, if you are with humans around your age, that is when they tend to be full of impulses and bravado. It makes them unstable and unreliable. Emotionally like foals, all gangly and uncoordinated. Again I say, patience. As one of the 'Quessir, you will find a dependable love in time. Nerwen paused, then asked curiously What is that book you have there? Quote
