"Alexis...I'm sorry. You're better off without me. Safer. That...what just happened...hell, what happened before with Haldor. That's my life. That's the life of penance. And that road ends in death. You don't deserve that life. You deserve better. And you deserve better than me." Kissing her hand for the last time, he walks quietly away, sadness etched in his face. But he composes himself. He had a job to do. His unity was broken, his destiny lost...but he still had his duty. That would be his life now. "Sorrow, is it? Care for a walk down to the Marketplace? I believe there are a few preparations we should make before we return to headquarters."

Alexis takes in what Arthur says, then lets him go thinking. She does her best to ignore Althior, considering he's yelling his head off.

Skrall looks the elf up and down, "Ms. Alexis. Don't ya find that get-up a little drafty? To answer yer question though, no I haven't ever been in the fields. Can't be all that bad though from what I hear."

She looks down at herself. "Well I just got this, not sure yet myself. I've been to the fields myself, good fun. I really enjoy venting on the critters there."

"Believing in chaos is one thing. Trying to do whatever the hell happened below Eubric is another, and after what went down there I'm quite certain you're not going to try it. You're not a Zootist if you despise Zoot. Separate the two, and just live life, Arthur. Order, Chaos, Light, Dark - there is no need to cling onto these principles! You just try to do what makes you happy and try to do whats right.

Stop complicating your life with these philosophical questions. The best questions have no answers - and you ask a lot of questions of this world. But you'll get your answer when the time is appropriate. Focus on what truly matters to you, Arthur, and take it. Now: do you love Alexis?"

"...yes. I do."

Althior rolls his eyes. "Love will make you weak, Arthur, just as it did me. Loving this Elf will only end up getting the both of you killed. Are you prepared to let that happen?"

"And there is your answer. She needs somebody who appreciates Alexis Fenral, Arthur. Not Alexis Fenral's body."

I give a slight smile and turn around, looking to the night sky above.

"I may deny it sometimes, Arthur, but dead hearts do love. Just, just not this one."

I put my hand over my ribcage, checking my pulse... my heart was not in the best of conditions. Ragged. Tired. Weak.

"At least, not anymore.."

Althior rolls his eyes. "Love will make you weak, Arthur, just as it did me. Loving this Elf will only end up getting the both of you killed. Are you prepared to let that happen?"

"Althior, did your separation make you truly stronger? Or just more volatile? Because if it was the former, you wouldn't be so angry."

"'t would be an interestin' adventure that would. As long as yer focused on slaying quarry instead of pumpin' ether into yer sword, I think we could manage." Skrall replied with a slight grin.

Hoke let out a laugh.

"Tis true my friend. My steel craved my ethereal energies on our last quest. Mayhaps I can keep it under control in our next adventure."

"Yes. I learned from my mistakes. I am merely stating that Regulus here should not be so blind and stupid as I was. I'm trying to save his soul from it's demise. It is a serious matter, and he is to blind to see how Alexis could end up getting him killed,"

"Killed? We are heroes, Althior. Its in the job description. We go about, stopping genocides, gods, tyrants, and only the occasional common thief. Our life expectancy isn't exactly high."

"Enjoy what you've got when you've got it. That's the way I see life. If something is preventing you from being happy... you bash it."

"Sorrow's right. Everyone dies. It's what we do in life that counts." Arthur suddenly tears off back toward the Hall.

"Of course, I am merely stating that he should not get himself killed over an elven broad who does not know the definition of the word love. And besides, he and I still have a life to live opposed to whatever the hell you are."

"Sir, I believe that's enough-"

"Be quiet, Finnegan! You're no different from Sorrow. You're a floating gas and an overall mistake, nothing more."

Finnegan cowers behind Arthur, obviously hurt. Althior pays no attention.

"Sorrow's right. Everyone dies. It's what we do in life that counts." Arthur suddenly tears off back toward the Hall.

"Arthur! You are both going to die! Get that through your thick skull! She cares nothing for you! Your deaths will be for nothing, just like mine was!" He chases after him. Was he doing this so that he could go back to Alexis? He had to keep telling himself no. He was trying to save a life.

I shake my head.

"Althior. You can either live a happy ten years or wallow in misery for twenty. Alive or undead, whats the point of living if there is no happiness?"

I arrive in the hall.

"Ah, Alexis - you have a bow for sale, right? Perhaps a trade?"

Benji walked around outside. He didn't feel like returning to the hall, no, at least not yet. His heart was feeling dark with the burden of remembering his mother, and how he hadn't contacted her in over five or six years.

"Is she even alive?" Benji anxiously wondered. "No, of course she is. She is an elf after all. I'm sure she is fine... Of course she is fine..." Benji attempts to reassure himself. If only Alexis hadn't left, so that they could've kept discussing the past. No, but she wasn't interested. She was too caught up in the present. "I guess half elves mature faster than elves." Benji thinks to himself, laughing quietly while pacing the streets of the city.

"I guess I should be getting back." Benji thought to himself. "No, not quiet yet. I need to think a little bit more before I make any decisions. I don't want to be hasty..."

Haldor slinks over from the corner as the row flares up and the scene grows bigger. He remains calm, as though simply stating a fact.

"You know, Althior, you should stop and think for a moment. Screaming and shouting only does its best to let us all know that it's you who is finding it difficult to live with themselves. For all the number of times you've assured us that you have a future, do you really believe that? If it were me granted a second chance, I'd leapt at it to get on with my life, knowing that I should be grateful for being able to get back up unlike the rest of the miserable sods. I look at you, and I think 'What a terrible shame, the poor bastard is so set apart from this experiance that he's determined to make everyone feel as bad as he does.' That saddens me, because it ain't nothing like the Althior I used to know, the one who'd pull up a pint with a smile, knowing that today ain't so bad as it could have been. That rings true, it could have been worse. You could have just died, and then it would have been end of chapter for good old Emorith. Instead, you were given the chance to keep going, stay grateful of that, and let us keep well and happy before we roll over and die. As you say, we're all going to rot in the end; so what's the point in wasting your time being miserable?"

With that, the shaman returned to his quiet solitude.

As Skrall continues his conversation, he notices a small package on the bar, addressed to him, containing 200 Gold and a note.

Thanks. For everything.

Boomingham makes his way over to the Quest Board and beams when he sees his name.

"Better make a good impression," he mumbles to himself excitedly. He gives Nyx a little nod good bye, content knowing he'd be seeing her in a day or two for Founder's Day, and then bustles off to go wash his cloths and face, shines his swords, and get his beard trimmed.

Nyx sees Boomingham look at the quest board and remembers she'd signed up for a couple of quests. She herself goes to look as Boomingham grins and mumbles his way out of the Hall.

"So that's why he's so happy" she smiles to herself "Patricia. And I get to watch it all happen too."

She carries on smiling as she makes her way out to the Marketplace. Time for a long honey-soak at the bath house and then a little shopping before setting off for a grand ball and to catch a poisoner.

"Ah, yes. This fanblade has an Opal in it, so Opal and the Mockthril Bow for the Fanblade?

These gloves aren't coming off, I'm afraid - these things could pull an entire city out of debt!"

"Stay safe out there, Alexis. my fiance would come home bruised - even scarred, once - almost every night. Times are changing, but your profession is the only one that isn't... not everyone is going to be sunshine and rainbows, i'm afraid. be sure to give them what for if need be."

I give a friendly chuckle.

"Besides giving some relationship counseling? While you were fighting an insane goddess, I was prowling around a pond beating off some overgrown bullies to save a frog. Bloody quest still managed to give me a heart attack, but I digress.

it is good to see you two together again, by the by. Glad I could lend a hand."
