"Have it your way. Only a fool allows another to force him to make his point. The swim through the avalanche of negative words to a better place." I return to my table, kick my feet up on my cart, and chaw on an over-sized piece of dried beef. :moar: "Heh! My teeth aren't what they used to be."

"Well if someone bought the shield from me right now, then I'd just start upgrading a new shield using that Gold."

"I didn't get a chance to see, do you have a new shield already or you have yet to buy one? This Fancy Shield, here, is fairly strong for starting out with, but of course nothing compared to your monster, if the life of a Paladin becomes weary to me, then perhaps I will sell it to you."

"I see, eheh... But what good is a ship if you are not going anywhere?"

"It's as you say, it could prove useful on a mission, I just don't have a destination in mind right now. Don't worry, Eubric's not rid of me yet. "

"I do not have a new shield yet. I'm looking for something in the SP: 9 and higher range that I can get for less than I would pay in the Marketplace; haven't found one."

I would imagine anyone with a shield of that strength wouldn't be too eager to sell it. You seem to have been around here for a while. You speak knowledgeably of many things, and one must have been around the hall for a long time to have spent such a great amount of gold on a shield of that calibre and not be a rogue of some sort. Bloody thieves!"

Karie stepped off the boat and back onto the dock. She looked about to see if anything had changed, but it seemed as if nothing had. Her stomach growled. She hadn't eaten since Brendenton. She walked back towards the hall when she noticed two me on a foreign looking ship. They appeared to be preoccupied. She could ask for an apple.

Or she could steal one.

All I need to do is walk onto that boat, enter the haul, steal a few apples, and get back off the boat.

She casually walks onto the boat and down into the haul, avoiding eye contact with the two men.

"They do have an advantage over us, the Rogue classes. I have considered trying Assassin before to get a little Gold, but they are much more fragile than Wardens. I prefer to keep my defenses strong, minimize the times I am Knocked Out, and get to Level 50, when as a Mime I'll be able to gain Gold and use a shield at the same time."

The raider can only watch as a pale girl climbs onto his ship, and down into the cargo hold, trying not to look at him or Hybros. What in the nine hells was going on? Guts shared a look with Hybros, before quickly going back in the cabin, coming back with Lifestealer moments later. He then proceeded to squat down over the entrance of the hold. In a tone halfway between amusement and indignancy, but spoken carefully regardless, the raider said: "I think you walked onto the wrong ship."

Karie begins to plunder one of the apple barrels in the ships hold, comparing sizes and textures for the ripest, juiciest apple. Her pouch was already stuffed with six of them.

"One apple, two apple, three apple, four. No, this one's got a hole in it..."

"I think you walked onto the wrong ship."

She jumped back and drew Sexy. The apple barrel toppled over as she carefully moved into the shadows. She was cornered. The ship appeared to have no gun holes, and the only way up was the way she came. She considered her next move carefully as she waited in the shadows of the hull.

Hybros was about to respond to Guts when the raider looked past the imp, then retrieved his trusty dagger. Hybros turned around just in time to see a pale female human with her hands plunged in a barrel full of apples. He raised his eyebrow at Guts, then drew Zoot's Reaper as he stood beside his old friend.

After Guts waved Lifestealer threateningly, Hybros added. "I would choose your next words carefully. This one here has already pried the ship from the cold dead hands of others; it would be foolish of you to try to take it for yourself, eheheh." He pointed his scythe's upper tip towards the woman with fiery hair.

Crud. The imp can see in the dark. Typical. She took a risky move and stepped out of the shadows.

"Steal your boat? No no, you see, I am somewhat of a thief, but I'm here to steal a few of your apples! Not your ship! So if you don't mind, I'll make my way off your boat if you two would move away from the hull entrance, and I get to feed my family of four."

Unless these two were sociopaths who couldn't feel the sympathy of a young woman trying to feed the rest of her family, this was in the bag.

Then again, knowing her luck...

Hybros looked uneasily to Guts, to follow his lead. He certainly couldn't condemn someone for stealing out of desperation; he had done so many times himself. But this was Guts after all. "Starving or not, you must consider who you are stealing from, eheh. Who are you anyways?"

"Well my friend, I go by many names, the one I'm most commonly known as is Karie. Currently a well-to-do pick pocket, but the hogs are cracking down on us pickpockets. It's hard to make a living on simply pilfering people's belongings. Certainly you boys understand, what, looking like you'd be the roguish types and all?"

One sucker down, one to go...

Dreyrugr climbed off the ship feeling horrible. He managed so see Karie walk off. He wasn't worried about her business however and went to find somewhere to sit down for a moment. He didn't mix well with water, it even blocked him from doing his best in his last battle. He picked up the aquamarine in his pocket. He could feel the same energy pulsing from it. Dreyrugr smiled at the irony as the aquamarine would soon be protecting him from feeling weak around water.

Nessa left the ship. She saw Karie entering another one. 'Strange', she thought. Dreyrugr sat by the dock looking at his gem. 'Stranger.' Nessa left the harbour and made her way back to Heroica Hall. She opened the door. This place was a place of extremes. One time it is silent, a good place to rest. Another time it is loud as a marketplace, and so not a good place to rest. Nessa really liked to get off for the day. A lot of things had happened in Brendenton. Things she had to think about. And this place was not the right one now. She closed the door and took a walk in Eubric.

"Pretzel, I'm a demon in your books. Wont your god appreciate you more if I'm slayed?"

"You know full well that none of us can be slain while under the protection of the Veterans, and the Paladin has already said that he does not wish to participate in Arena duels. Quit trying to goad your fellow hero into fighting you."

"If I remember correctly we were arguing about necromancers and the undead."

"Ah, yes, I remember now. We had a few abominations hanging around that hall then. Thank God I don't see any besides this sub-woofer in front of me. You're a better sort than some ranger. I must say that Rangers, in general, seem a better sort than most others, but every once in a while one may find a decent rogue or barbarian, if you look hard for them."

"You know full well that none of us can be slain while under the protection of the Veterans, and the Paladin has already said that he does not wish to participate in Arena duels. Quit trying to goad your fellow hero into fighting you."

"As the Warden said, you know full-well that you cannot be slain. So why should I fight you? For personal pride in beating down a young man (if you can truly be called that)? You should know that I fight out of necessity, not for pride. Your insistence on battle reveals the hidden fear within you though. By the way, you haven't happened to see the Barbarian Alisha around anytime recently, have you? I believe I have a bone to pick with her. You know Barky Barkster, I must have mentioned it before, but you really remind me of that constantly-fantasizing knight. What was his name? Ah, yes, Leo! Do you know of whom I speak? Poor kid had some mental issues as I recall it."

I write furiously on a parchment and post it up for all in the Hall to see.

Erik heard a man call his name across the room, so after he'd written on the quest board he set out looking for anyone he recognised. He passed an old man with a cart talking with three other heroes, but doubled back after a few steps. He stood a few metres away, so as not to interrupt the conversation, and squinted at the face under the hood.

In a single movement, Guts disarmed Karie. Now holding her weapon in his left hand, he said:

"You picked the wrong person to steal from. Give me a reason why I should not kill you right here."The raider smirked. "Or hand you over to the Watch."

Karie looked as if she was going to say something, and then didn't. She fumbled with ideas that weren't being put together.

"You know what, I really don't have one. I now, terrible shame. Other than, you now, member of the Heroica guild and what not, yadda yadda..."

Guts raised an eyebrow.

"You're a member of Heroica? Learn to act like one." Guts quickly slashed each of Karie's legs with her own rapier, forcing her to kneel. He then grabbed her by the hand, up on the deck. He wasn't nearly as strong as he used to be, but he could still lift up a girl easily. "Don't come near this ship again, or you won't get off so easy." With a single swing, the raider throws Karie into the water. He then threw her rapier, and a few of the apples after her.

Guts looks over at Hybros, who had been looking this whole time. He smirked, took a bite out of one of the apples he took back from Karie, throwing another at Hybros, and asked: "Do you disapprove?"

Karie hits the water hard. Swimming wasn't her strength. She emerged from the water, only to have her blade hit the water. She grabbed it before it could sink to the bottom of the dock.

"Bloody sailors." She mutters. As if on cue, few apples rained from the upper railing. She swiftly moved her hands over her head as apples fell into the water, and on her.

"I hate ships." She poorly swims to the dock and climbs up, moving closer inland. She sits on the dock and checks her wounds. Nothing major, just cuts to her legs, which stung more due to the sea water which had made it into the wound. She got up and headed for the hall.

---

Karie makes it back to the hall, having had a miserable few days. She makes her way over to her table in the back, looking for any familiar faces. She finds none, besides her previous quest mates. She takes out her mask and pulls out a bottle of black paint, a bottle of glue, and a few other various materials, and gets to work on fixing her mask.

IC: De'kra looked down at the feather the Rito had given him, imagining. He was flying high above the city, swooping about on great wings. The sky, he could rembering soaring the sky back home, laughing with the Gukko. Darting past the giant wasps and dragonflies of the sky, letting the wind bath him in its cool embrace.

He hadn't considered joining the Rito in the skies, it had seemed foolish. But now...his mind was already starting to race, thinking of his home. Vakama's Disk Launcher, the Mask of Levitation, The Mask of Flight, the wings of a Gukko, already designs were beginning to emerge.

Dak had been watching the dispute between the strange-looking monk and the two Raiders for a while now. Without warning, he stalked up behind them.

"Now, now, gentlemen, there's no need to fight, is there?" Dak said, and just for an instant his irises transitioned from their usual brown to deep red.

"I don't believe I know any of you, so let me introduce myself. My name is Dak Shadeaux, but I am more commonly known these days as "The Stalker". Perhaps you have heard of me?" Dak says with a smooth bow and a smirk.
