It was Master Holla demonstrating his skill with his newly-acquired Dancing Shoes that convinced Master Guffington that he hadn't seen everything yet. I must admit that I am not sure if he still maintains that view."

"How bizarre." Stated Sylph with a bitter tone. "Well, I suppose it can't be helped." Stated Sylph then, sighingly. "A mayfly lives its whole life in but a month and believes itself to have seen the world when it has not strayed more than a mile from its hatching pond. But young short-lived things do change so easily. That is the difference between a river and a creek."

I turn to the druid. "From the way you speak, I would assume you are a follower of Sylvania or, perhaps Sem, both of whose beliefs I have studied thoroughly, but then your views on evil seem rather opposed to what I have learned of theirs and you have the appearance of an abomination of ether more than that of a being of nature, which puzzles me. I must wonder, though, where did you adopt your religious beliefs and what makes you claim one thing to be evil over another? Is it made up in your head? Or are you indeed an abomination that only speaks the words of another. Death is often necessary. Even nature understands that. Without death there cannot be life. Without a fruit being plucked from a tree, and losing its source of life, it cannot be planted and its seed cannot produce another tree. Is it evil, therefore, to pluck the life out of that fruit?"

Master Docken never claimed that Black Knights are evil. He claimed that they are selfish which is true. To dodge a blow meant for yourself and let it strike your companion is selfish, especially when you carry a shield and he does not or your companion is counting on you to ward off your opponents attacks. One thing is certain. Black Knights would never survive in an army. Fighting in an army requires discipline. It requires being there when others expect you to be, a skill which Black Knights seem to lack. I have to say that I would be hesitant to go on a quest with one as they are apt to disappoint you when you need them the most. So perhaps not essentially evil, but selfish definitely."

"I have to agree with Sylph. Killing is evil. What would've happened if we didn't defeat the Progg horde in Luosh? Is sitting by watching people be murdered okay, or is that evil?"

"Do you consider it evil, that you killed the horde? Or would it have been better to let them continue their rampage. Fighting evil is not evil, because evil cannot overcome itself. Just as you cannot fight a demon with the power of darkness imbued into your weapon, so can you not fight evil with evil. You must fight darkness with light. So you must fight evil with righteousness and justice. Sometimes justice and righteousness require the slaying of those that spread evil, so that there evil cannot continue to contaminate and sap the light and life out of others.

"Did I hear you right when you said you defeated a horde of proggs?"

Johon is knocked back by Karie's attack.

"Good job, perhaps we should practice another skill for now? Would you want to teach me about stealth? Or perhaps Nessa would want to teach us about Ranged fighting?"

"I think this is more of the battle style I am into. Now let me see." Nessa looked for some different sized objects.

OOC: I am out on a business travel. Nessa will teach you in about 6 - 8 hours

"A pleasure to meet you, Madam Mizuki. " Dak says, bowing to the woman the monk had introduced. "Our monk speaks very highly of you."

"Just call me Mizuki, please. So are you are intrested in an arena battle ?"

Erik signs up for quests 70 and 71.

"Well like I went to Dastan and saw another dragon, Its hoard contained some pretty neat loot but I didn't think there would be any honour or fun from stealing the loot while the dragon is recovering.

By the way is anyone hungry or thirsty ? I can run over to the bar and get us some snack food or some drinks if you guys need it.

OOC1: Brickdoctor, DLL, how long did you stay up last night??

OOC2: Murder, I believe if I remember correctly, is the purposeful killing of another, and the killer knows what he/she is doing. Manslaughter is the killing of another, but the killer had no intent or the action wouldn't have been lethal in the first place. (For example, I heard something about a soccer player punching a referee in the head. The ref died, but the player can't be charged with murder, because he had no intent and a punch to the head doesn't normally kill.) I think it's all about if you know what your doing. So there's just some information.

"Ah, interesting. You must not have been a Black Knight for long. What made you choose Black Knight as your advanced class? You seem more knightly than roguish, so I'll further assume that you were a knight before becoming a Black Knight.

"Also, tell me more of these beings you fought. Did you call them proggs? Odd thing, because I went on a party a while back that did a pretty thorough clean out of all these ether abominations in the area. Their king had a real attitude, but I slew him myself in the end. He did slay one of the heroes on our quest first though. "

"Seems as if Nessa needs sometime to prep, so I'll teach you a few stealth moves."

Karie pulls out a small leather pouch and fills it with rocks from the lake. She then moves a ways from Johon and turns her back from him, the pouch dangling around the back of her belt.

"Steal it without me knowing you did."

The grass between the two had a lot of debris in it, branches, puddles, and other hazards.

Drake's ears pricked up at the sound of drinks. He was going to get a drink and he would get one by all means necessary. Even if he did have to stab the monk or beg Mizuki for a whole year for it. Hell, if Mizuki ended up going on a quest before the year was up he would follow her on the quest, still begging.

Drake turned to Mizuki.

"I do! I do!"

"Of course you do."

"Yeah, what Demonic Dak said."

"You still here?"

Drake then slid down the stair railing and hopped onto the floor.

"I would accept, but I find a hard time putting my life into the hands of an orcish barmaid. Never know what she could pull. Nah, I'll stick to what I have with me." I sip a cup of chamomile.

Nessa grabbed three different sized stones, two branches and two nearby ropes. She tied the strings to the branches and laid the stones in some distance. "No problem, I am not quite finished yet. So just finish the current lesson. I will be ready soon."

"Yes, I am devoted to Sylvania... But I would remind you that while you may be familiar with one branch of her worship, there are many sects and cabals. I'd be interested to learn from whom you learned of 'Sylvania's views on evil.'" Stated Sylph Calmly. He then turned his helm in surprise to face the monk. "What?" he queried in amusement. "You think I am an an ether-made abomination?" The thought seemed nearly funny to the cloaked figure. "hardly. In fact, It's quite the opposite. My philosophy is the result of many years of meditation. Death is a natural process of course. Killing--inflicting death upon another being-- is similarly natural. That is not to say that it is not evil. Evil is as necessary and natural as good, you see, and the two must always be in balance. If there is too much life and not enough death, all of nature suffers. If there is too much death, and not enough life, the same. Your fruit example though, I must contest. The evil act would be to kill the tree. taking an apple is like taking an offering. Trees create fruit to spread themselves. They are designed to be eaten. A fruit, like a finger, never lives." He stated, not bothering to continue discussing Black Knights.

"I disagree with your assumption that simply because a creature is your enemy that it does not think and possess the capacity for good. To kill any thinking being is evil. To not kill, or otherwise incapacitate, an enemy bent on causing great evil for no good reason, is similarly evil."

"To be fair, Master Pretzel, while I didn't specifically say that Black Knights were evil, I did say that they attempted to use evil to fight evil. With Intimidation, betrayal through Hiding and Dodging, and unleashing so much malice and malevolence that they create a Darkness-elemental attack without the use of Ether, they use evil acts in order to accomplish their goals. Easily they flow, quick to join you in a fight. If once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny."

As Drake sat on top of the Quest board, signing up for Quest #71, he managed to catch sight of a mysterious looking... thing wearing a helmet of some sort. Drake calmly walked up to it.

"Excuse me sir but I believe we haven't met before. I'm Drake and you are... who? If you will care to tell me."

Drake extended his hand for some kind of hand shake.

"I don't know If I'd be able to steal it from you, but I'll give it a shot. What setting are we in and who are you? A civilian in a hallway? To be honest, since the subject I would be facing would be one of my eneimes, I'd probably whack them over the head or succumb them by pressuring their neck. Are we possibly in a room with multiple guards, and I have to steal a key of some sort?"

Drake extended his hand for some kind of hand shake.

"Sylph Solanum. Druid." Spoke Sylph.

"Ah. I'm a proud knight from some village that is now destroyed due to some unfortunate circumstances!"

There was a long silence between the two after that sentence was said.

"... Okay, it's somewhere near the Ruins of Fortaan..."

"And..."

"It was destroyed by some orcs."

"Good!"

Karie simply shook her head.

"I'm... um... a very attractive young noblewoman out for a stroll in a park at night which is devoid of humanoid life, who has info on... I don't know... Lord megablocks-Cheeks, who's making off with tax money. I'm not to be killed- look, just take the pouch! Rationally, if I hear anything like a snapped twig or clanking armour, I'm going to turn around, and if I see you, which I should since their aren't many trees, I'm going to get suspicious. Look, if it helps, I'll go easy on you and act like a ditz. If you get seen, and you're trying to pickpocket, murder, or interrogate someone forcefully, it's not always the end. Usually it is, but I wanna see what you can do if your target's not that bright. If it makes you more comfortable, use a small staff and pretend it's a knife. Pretend I'm a target you need to kill. It's pretty much the same as stealing this pouch."

Karie turns back around and prepares for her role, knowing she'll need to use it.

Erik joins Mizuki in getting drinks.

"Funny, you speak as if you only worship Sylvania in word and not in mind, but I digress. Your appearance made me think of an ether-made abomination, it was when you spoke that I determined otherwise. I stated thus before, but you appear to have misunderstood.

I suppose our difference in opinion stems mainly from the definition of the word 'evil'. I suppose there is no use arguing on the meaning of a word, since it appears as if our views on the general subject seem similar. I suppose in my mind 'evil' can never be right, and sometimes the only 'right' thing to do is to slay someone in order that good may be achieved.

I must disagree with the plucking the fruit of a tree would not be evil in your definition of the word 'evil'. You say that plucking the fruit is not evil, since the fruit is merely the offspring of the tree. In that case, it shouldn't be wrong to slay offspring of any plant, beast, or man. How can you define one as evil and one as not?"

"I disagree with your assumption that simply because a creature is your enemy that it does not think and possess the capacity for good.

"Pardon me, but I don't recall saying anything of this nature."

Johon shimmers at the thought. He didn't like killing anyone. He nods though, then began. He scanned over the ground, then carefully snuck towards Karie, then, holding the staff as his weapon, swung his arm around Karie's face, pulling her to the ground.

"How did I do?" Johon asks, realizing he may have made multiple mistakes.

"Yes, I started as a knight. I chose Black Knight because I think I needed more skill to be effective. All I was doing was soaking up hits. And yes, the proggs. It turns out the one you killed had 2 brothers, princes. They gathered a giant progg army. I am sorry to hear of your loss."

"Nothing spectacular. You did step on a twig, and your pace could be quickened, but for your first time, not bad. However, another thing you should also know: where your own items are!"

Karie smiled as she lifted Johon's large, jingling sack of gold coins in front of his face.

"As I have said before, I do not find all killing to be evil. Just because the choice is explainable does not mean that it is justifiable, excusable, or acceptable. No matter what the hero's past is like, he still has a choice to pick a different class."
