Arnulf felt he needed little competition aproached the bald man near the bar. "How about some fast drinking competition. You seem like a better drinker and hard man , but you're not Guts The Raider. I heard he has long blonde hair, so up for a challenge sir?"

The raider just looked at the man before him for a few seconds, before turning back to the bar, saying: "Get lost, kid."

Boomingham exchanges a glance with Hybros, and then exchanges a look with Barty. The angel nods.

"Arthur, humans have short life spans. It is the same thing I always tell Lawrence. Humans do not change."

"And he's right, or at least, more or less so. You speak with vanity of youth, boy-o." Boomingham shrugs. "To most races, I probably still sound the same way. But as I constantly remind Barty, we affect the changes we wish to see. I said change in times of peace come slowly; but they come just the same. They come along better, truth be told. The Orcish War changed things, and we've been getting better slowly and surely ever since. You sit here and expect to see the world improve tomorrow. You won't. When our actions have their rewards, we will be dead and buried, and perhaps the same will be true of our children. But we are still worth our actions. That's all we're worth, and all we should be worth."

"But then...how can we make it through the day-to-day?"

Arthur shook his head. It was too much for him, I haven't had enough sleep to deal with all this right now. "I don't know. Maybe some decent rest will let me make more sense of it." He locks eyes with Boomingham. "Thanks, though. There's wisdom there...even if I can't see it. Yet."

Arthur was on his way out of the Hall when he spotted the Quest board. Figuring it was worth a glance, he stopped by to look...when he saw a name that nearly jolted him out of his skin.

Karie Alderflask...

He quickly scanned the ad. A Wolfgang armory? I fear for Wolfgang betrayal... Arthur glanced back towards Boomingham. Maybe he's right. Maybe I'll never make a difference...but damn it, I have to try. Leaving a sealed note announcing his availability for Quest 70 for Lieutenant Etenent, he quickly departs for the Barracks to arrange matters with the Captain and Lieutenant Serevan.

IC: De'kra watched Arthur walk away, out of his reach. The echo sighed, before checking in his journal for a reply. But so far there was nothing.

Standing up, the echo looked at the quest board. Nodding, he sighed for Quest 70, with the condition to go only if Arthur was also selected. Hopefully that was okay, but he needed tospeak this brother.

Drake was about to give up when suddenly he saw something familiar. A ship! But there was no water for him to test it on. Then, he saw something better. Giant propellers! It was a flying ship!

Quickly, Drake grabbed the guy on stilts and threw him into the ship before jumping in himself.

"What are you doing?"

"Taking us back home."

"It's impossible!"

"Not with this baby."

Drake kicked the ship a few times, setting off the engine. Then, he grabbed the wheel as the ship set off in the air, and he guided it forwards to Eubric. Unfortunately, the victory was short lived as soon the ship shook and things fell off. The back of the ship suddenly set on fire as Drake turned around and what he saw made even him take a few steps back.

A dragon, the same size as the hall or maybe bigger, had been awakened by the noise from the ship. And it was angry. Quickly, Drake drew his sword and looked back at the guy on stilts.

"You take control of the ship. I'll be on the dragon. I'll also take lead."

Drake ran to the back of the ship, where he jumped onto the dragon's back and he plunged the sword into the dragon's back. Quickly, he used the sword as some kind of control for the dragon as it flew straight in front of the ship, with Drake then directing it to Eubric.

7 minutes later...

Drake hopped off of the dragon when it neared the hall. The stilt guy had gone home by then, and it was just Drake. He took the sword out of the dragon and jumped off when the dragon began going back towards the forest, and Drake crashed through the doors, smashing into the Questboard and flipping it the other way, sending Drake flying into a seat at the saloon.

"Well, that was eventful."

"Where were you?"

"Long story."

After exchanging the goods with Arthur, I walk over to Sorrow.

"What the hell happened to you?"

"What, you've never crushed a glass goblet in your hand before?"

The bleeding had stopped for the most part, but now the glass glistened in the morning sun.

"I've had worse..." I groan, glancing towards the folded up Catsuit. Will this downward spiral ever end? Maybe there was no place for me on Olegaia. I'm essentially outdated, this point... a decaying corpse just wondering when I was going to collapse entirely. Marvelous. Simply marvelous.

Lilith walks into the hall, looking a bit tired after the fiasco at the Foundation Day Ball. She mutters something about property damage and a warrant as Drake crashes into the Quest Board, the lietunant realigning it to see the sign-ups. She removes a quill pen and circles five names, her mood seeming to lighten as she does so.

"Hmm... Not a bad bunch. Maybe we can deal some more damage to the Wolfgang..."

With that, she turns on her heel and walks out the door, leaving only her notes on the quest sheet. The heroes stand up and crowd around the questboard, seeing whether or not Lilith had chosen them for this task...

Chosen Heroes for Quest #70:

Lawrence Boomingham (Zepher) *Party Leader!*

Arthur Justus Regulus VII (Flipz)

Karie Alderflask (Kintobor)

Arnulf Bishop (Shoker86)

Em (Emjojoas)

You have 24 hours to confirm, but don't hesitate to roleplay in the hall before departure! I realize some 66ers are being thrown right back into the frying pan, so don't worry if you take a bit longer. Just wanted to get this show on the road.

Kiray walked back into the hall after a long night's rest after her first quest. She was happy; she had succeeded with a group of heroes who knew what they were doing, people she could watch and learn from. The female knight walked up to the questboard to see what was new.

Karie notices the ad for the catsuit and a broad smile spreads across her face. She heads up to the man selling it and slams her sack of coins on the bar.

"How much you selling that catsuit for? I'll pay you 200 now, and 200 later. No questions asked. Deal?"

Grimwald shuffles over to where Boomingham and Hybros are sitting.

"Sorry ta interrupt gentlemen, but I believe this 'ere scroll is yours Mr. Boomingham" he says as he hands the man back his Scroll of Weakening.

"Thank you for lendin' this ta me, but I didn't get a chance ta use it, eheheh..."

"That's a question, and I said no questions asked. Fine, if you must know it's Karie. Now are you taking my money or not?"

Karie was growing impatient. This was after all a high quality cat suit, something she had only heard of but never seen. She didn't even know what she was going to do with it, but deals like this only came once in a blue moon.

I instanty shove Syntax off from the wheel (even though I was quite aware at this point we were one of the same) and heave a deep sigh at the name. It's what my granddaughter said before she... I banished that train of thought midsentence.

My body language seemed to relax, my shoulders lowing and my posture leaning down from its straight position. I take a quick glance at the catsuit, then my hand... was it coincedence? Obviously I couldn't drag the girl to the Oracle for a blood test. Against better judgement, I hand Karie the catsuit and accept the 200 gold, plus the IOU.

"Sorry... I had a bad night. A real bad night.

Here, its yours."

I look over to the questboard, discerning her name.

"Good luck dealing with the wolfgang." I say, hiding the emotion behind the statement.

Karie swipes the cat suit out of the strange beings hands.

"Thank you good sir, you're a gentleman and a scholar! I hope you feel better, and I would stick around but I've got to run!"

Karie takes the Cat Suit and gives the fellow 200 gold, with the promise of 200 gold later.

She then makes her way to the quest board and notices her name on the quest she signed up for.

"Romulus, your task is to fix the door while I'm gone. I'll see you around."

She mockingly salutes him and heads out the door.

"Karie, come here, have a drink with me. How are you, I haven't seen you since you stormed out" Arnulf calls out for Karie, but she was gone.

Arthur returns to the Hall for some last-minute preparation, a list in his hand. He spots Grimwald and heads over to him. "Excuse me, Master Grimwald, might I trouble you to return my staff?"

IC: De'kra ran up to Arthur, clicking, "Vakama, it is good to see you. How did you quest go? Did you get my letter about Veterans' identities? I don't think you replied?"

Edited by Tanma

"Yes, indeed. I'm sorry I did not get a chance to reply. After Violetta and Donny were killed--I was the only one who believed they had a chance at redemption, apparently--we had to rush into the Theatre and save the Houses. They were making such strides, it seemed...but now they hate each other even more than ever. There will never be peace in Eubric now. Not until Ulric and every last one of his followers are dead...and the heads of the Houses as well. Eubric will not see hope within their lifetimes...or ours, it seems."

"It's funny--in my homeland, there were many problems. The leaders were selfish, strict, and closed-minded. But my father kept trying to keep them in check, and to make things better for all of us. He believed that there was always hope, that even one person could achieve great things. But...maybe he was wrong. Maybe we can't really change anything, and all we can do is kick a few pebbles down the mountain and hope someday it'll cause an avalanche."

Posted (edited)

IC: De'kra shook his head, "I think we still can make difference, especially through we unity. You changed course of war between lion knights and elves, and in Dastan we definitely affected things. Without we emperors and Ella would have been captured, and evil emperor would have been sole ruler. We helped Rito end their isolation, in fact they have offered to teach I their ways of flight when I am more experienced. Not to mention other heroes defeated Chimera and rejuvenate dragons of Dastan. And you and other heroes managed to stop Wren and end her plans. That a lot we have done, and we are ll inexperienced. Remember, Heroica was devastate in purge before any of we joined."

Lowering his voice De'kra added, "I met all veterans on Quest 44, as did other heroes. I sent you list in journal, but you need to know now that Hestia Boneparte is one. If war between houses comes, I worry Heroica might be drafted."

"If war comes, one of the Veterans will want to recruit us to the Wolfgang. One of them is on their side."

Arthur's voice begins to rise slightly as he continues speaking. "And, as wrong as they are, they put their finger on a lot of things that are wrong with Heroica. Violetta said we're too concerned with saving the world to succeed in saving our own hometown, and I think she was right in that regard. We've had two and a half centuries to make Eubric a better place, and what have we accomplished? Nothing. The Houses still squabble for power. Orcs and other green-skins are still treated as second-class citizens, if not enslaved. Hell, the friggin' Hovel Wall was built to lock away the poor because the rich aren't interested in helping anyone but themselves. If anything, we've let things get worse in Eubric. And there's nothing we can do about it at this point, because apparently we, the best and brightest of Eubric, are too stupid and inexperienced to be worth listening to." Arthur lets his face fall into his hands. "Why is it that evil people, like the Wolfgang, like Wren, like me, can destroy everything in mere moments, but the people who do good can work for centuries without making any difference at all?"

IC: De'kra mused slowly, ", Vakama, back home one of we leaders was actually evil king in disguise. Is it...is it possible that Ulric could be one of Veterans?"

Nodding he said, "If you really want to know, I agree. Heroica is part of problem, fact that one of we veterans is major member of Bonepartes confirms it. Back home 250 years won't be much, I people can be immature at 100,000 years of life. We spent one thousand years in exile and and we memories lost. But still, for short lived species. I...there was a time when I would have help Wolfgang, before I knew much about them. I still not know much about them, but I trust you judgement."

De'kra laid his hand on Arthur's shoulder, though he had to stand on his toes. "It can be easier to destroy," he admitted, "That why we have to take comfort in what we do create. Friendships, loves, even mutual respect. Sometimes those things die physically, but if they are true they will survive and endure, in memory and in thoughts. Even though I lost I people, I memories broke through fog. Because what we had create was special, and could never be completely destroyed. And...maybe it would be a good idea to find other ways to help people than just fighting foes. We both have elemental powers, maybe sometime we could try to use we powers to help people, use ice and fire to create fresh water for villagers, maybe teach some of them better technology and techniques. You know a lot, maybe you could use your knowledge to find a way to help people, though obviously not and weapons. Any of this make sense, or am I rambling?"

Nyx ambles back into the Hall, glancing at the Questboard on her way to the bar. No new quests, but Boomingham had already managed to get himself signed yet again. She sees him still at the bar, talking as usual, so she makes her way over, stopping by briefly to thank Kiray for returning her bedroll.

"Sorry to interrupt chaps" she smiles apologetically at Boomingham's companions "I just need to get these to Larry dear before he heads out." Nyx hands over Boomingham's Scroll of Frailty and Sterile Gloves. "Thank you for these, I hope they serve you well wherever you're off to next Larry." Nyx orders her Flaming Gumball from Scheherezade, taking a sip. Realising Boomigham probably has to go very soon, she hugs him tightly, whispering: "It was wonderful to fight with you again. Come back safe and we'll drink together then." Releasing him from her grip she says in a normal tone: "Thank you for my share of the loot, good luck Larry. Sorry for interrupting." she adds to the othes and continues drinking her drink.

-Interlude-

8785829141_9c633a35ce.jpg

A young teenager, most likely 11 or 12 rushes onstage with a suitcase in her left hand, a knife in the other. She's cornered in her own dingy deteriorating house. The door in the other room rattles and shakes violently, followed by banging. "Open this door at once!" Someone shouts off stage. The glass to the front door shatters as the door burst open and a tall, striking man walks on stage with purpose in his stride. He pulls out his rapier and lets out his other hand.

8796405664_b271a227d0.jpg

8796404720_c4fa61a74c_o.jpg

"Hand over the suitcase. Now!"

8796404826_3d90ac1e84_o.jpg

"No! You don't realize why I need this! I've already given up so much! My hair, the furniture, people around here are starving! Please!"

8796405522_14afb3dd47_o.jpg

The young girl backs into a table, brandishing her knife, keeping the suitcase away from the eye patched man.

8796404720_c4fa61a74c_o.jpg

"I am a business man m'lady, and you have just stolen 3000 gold from me! I don't want to hurt you! Give me the money!"

8796404826_3d90ac1e84_o.jpg

"Why should I?! The moment I hand you the money you're just going to run me through!"

8796404720_c4fa61a74c_o.jpg

"If I wanted to kill you I already would have! Throw the suitcase to me and I promise not to report you to the authorities!"

8796404826_3d90ac1e84_o.jpg

"Liar!"

"What's going on? Kayla?"

8796405378_0f33a39e32_o.jpg

The older mans jaw drops. He steps back at the sight of the three year old girl walk into the room.

8785829255_79d039472b_o.jpg

"But- I... you're stealing to care for your sister?"

8796404826_3d90ac1e84_o.jpg

"Please! Now you know why I need this money! Please, we're both hungry, and the nights are cold! Allow me to keep the money!"

8785828129_1381eb71b8_o.jpg

"Sissy, what's going on?"

8796405248_5f7dc4427f_o.jpg

The old man slowly puts his rapier away and walks towards the young girl in the doorway.

8796404720_c4fa61a74c_o.jpg

"How old is she?"

8796404826_3d90ac1e84_o.jpg

"What? She's four! Why?"

8796404720_c4fa61a74c_o.jpg

"Can you not send her to an orphanage?"

8796404826_3d90ac1e84_o.jpg

"It's not any better if you're in an orphanage or on the street, why do you think we're living in this rundown house? What are you implying?!?"

8796404720_c4fa61a74c_o.jpg

"You are only a young girl yourself, and here you are raising a child. I can't idly stand by and allow something like this to happen. This girl needs food, a good bed, and a roof over her head. Allow me to take her into my custody."

8796404826_3d90ac1e84_o.jpg

"What?!?"

8796404720_c4fa61a74c_o.jpg

"Please! I have a young daughter myself, and a large manor back in Charis! I can take care of her, me and my wife."

8796404826_3d90ac1e84_o.jpg

"But you won't take me?!?!"

8796404720_c4fa61a74c_o.jpg

"It'll only make things more difficult when I return home to my wife and I bring two orphans instead of one. If it would ease you, keep the money. You could easily start up your own business, get a house, anything with that money! I will ensure she lives a good life. I cannot idly stand by as both yourself and your sister starve here. With your sister gone, you will have less of a burden on your shoulders. Please, let me help you."

Kayla thinks long and hard. Does she leave her sister with a strange man she doesn't even trust? Her sister grapples onto her legs.

8785828129_1381eb71b8_o.jpg

"It's okay sis, I'll be okay."

8785828367_7401a77320.jpg

The two embrace. Kayla tries to hold back tears. She gives her younger sister an ornate dagger, the only possession left from her parents, then whispers into her ear.

8796404826_3d90ac1e84_o.jpg

"If that man tries to hurt you, slit his throat open and run! Run as fast as you can!"

Her sister nods.

8796404826_3d90ac1e84_o.jpg

"Mom and dad loved you, and I always will too, Karie."

She looks at her one last time as she walks out the door with the eye patched businessman, who turns around in the doorway.

8796404720_c4fa61a74c_o.jpg

"You have my word as a gentleman: she will be safe. I hope the best for you madame."

He walks out with Karie, as Kayla looks at her sister for the last time.

8796405030_5531268656_o.jpg

8809358150_9462f1940e_t.jpg

"And so, meine dammen un herren, madames et meisieurs, ladies and gentleman... what is the moral of lasts night's events? Hmm? It seems in the eyes of the houses, one can have their cake and eat it too! Just be prepared for when the neighbors come knocking..."
