The raider whispers back to Docken: "Does that mean you approve?"

"It is good to meet you, Nyx the Battlemage." The raider turns to his companions, and says dryly: "She's to the point." Turning back to Nyx, he says: "I don't usually get good first impressions from mages, you're not an exception, but... you seem to be able to handle yourself and your magic. If my companions approve, I will sign you up with us."

"Willing to take this old thing along for the ride, Guts?"

The raider says coldly: "Not until you get that hand fixed."

"I don't care about your memento, you're not in top form." The raider added, mockingly, but without malice: "You corpses all look alike, all I know, I murdered half your family."

The raider whispers back to Docken:"Does that mean you approve?"

"I do. Healing is definitely a perk, and having a summon is like having a tank to soak up a hit or target an enemy for a Round or two. Master Sorrow might be more powerful if we need to take down a lot of enemies quickly, but I think Miss Nyx will be more versatile, which I would prefer considering that we already have Master Hybros to fill the Assassin's role."

Nyx smiles, slightly wistfully, but probably not for the reasons anyone might think. She realises what Hybros has just said and shakes her outstretched palms at him in an effort to clarify.

"Oh, no no, certainly not a mate; my heart is somewhere across the seas by now. But Larry, well, he was a pig when I first met him, but then we travelled across a desert together, and I saw him fight, and I saw his nobility, and we bonded. Plus we both like to get outrageously drunk, which helped." Nyx grins. "I have no idea if the old fool is a king or not, but sometimes he sure acts like one. And he has a sweet heart. He hides it well, but he's a good man, and that matters to me."

"Oh I see... hehehe. Well then it appears that you would fit in well with--" Hybros stopped as Guts interrupted.

Guts waved over Docken, and said to Hybros next to him: "We should sign up for Guffington's job, we can't afford to lose him."

"Yes, indeed. This looks like as good of an opportunity as any to get out of here, and see the world, eheh." Hybros turned to Nyx to excuse himself, but it appeared that she was already making her way to the quest board. He signed his name for Quest #72 beneath hers, and nodded to her in approval. He also confirmed that he would be signing up with the party of Guts and Docken, as well as one other. Hybros and Nyx made their way back to the table upstairs. When he returned, Guts and Docken were speaking to a werewolf...? About politics. A subject he was not versed in, so he turned his attention back to Nyx.

"Hello, I'm Nyx, a BattleMage, and I'm rather fond of destroying things, especially by blowing them up, although I've recently discovered the joy of just hitting someone ridiculously hard. You must be Captain Holla - I think I've seen you talking to Nerwen, and I've just met Mr Hybros here and he seems a nice guy, so that leaves Mr Docken - nice to make your acquaintance." she nods politely "I don't doubt for a second that I would be up for any task set before me, as I can wield magic with a most ferocious force, and also smack someone in the face quite hard. I'm reasonably self-sufficient, and I bloody love a good party, which is what it looks like this outing would be, and I can drink most men under the table. I'd really like you to consider taking me along with you." she smiles sweetly, wondering if there'd be questions as had been thrown at the previous "applicant".

"As I was saying before, I think that you might make a good addition to the team that we're hoping to take to this... party of the Great Guffington, you may have heard of him... well no doubt you have now, heheheh. If Lawrence can vouch for you, then I say that you join us." He looked to Guts and Docken, who were whispering to each other again. "No need for secrecy here, I think, eheh."

Nyx raises her eyebrows, and surprises herself in feeling mildly amused.

"Oh, you're one of those." she says with a little smile "Someone who doesn't like people flinging spells around, but thinks it's fine and dandy for themself to try to trap the same elemental power in their weapons." she nods slowly, still smiling "Well, I really try not to judge a whole group of people by the few I've met; I've never had a problem with Rogues, for instance, but that doesn't mean they're all ok." her smile grows ever so slightly "Anyway, if it makes you feel more comfortable you can view me as a weapon. A weapon with fabulous hair and killer shoes, but a weapon nonetheless." a little wink before turning back to Hybros.

"Thanks, I do think I can help, but I appreciate you three seem to be some sort of group already. Have you had dealings with Guffington before? I heard his name around the taverns, but I must admit I don't know a whole lot about him, I'm just excited about maybe going to a party where the host might not kick me out for setting fire to things. This time. :look:

So can you tell me more about him? If you don't mind, of course."

"If you are a weapon, you would have no choice. You would be a tool. A tool for killing. No mind of your own. No regret, no conscience." The raider paused. "There are people like that, but do not strive to be one. I do not wish a weapon for a companion. Make your own choices, do what you must. But don't deny me my right to be wary those that use magic. Too many times my suspicions have been right." With that, the Raider goes downstairs, writes Nyx name next to his sign up on the board, for what good it would do, and then leaves the Hall. He had some things to take care of.

Hybros watched Guts leave as he spoke. "...Yes, all three of us were asked for help from the Great Guffington, about a year ago. He is an... interesting man. He showed us his past, present... and perhaps even his future." Hybros omitted the part about the strange machine that allowed them directly into Guffy's dreams. "A man who has seen many times and places, and has riches beyond your imagination, yet has never lived a day in his life, if you can believe it, eheh. I am still unsure of what that means, but perhaps he felt as though he never gave much meaning to things."

The imp reflected silently on that for a moment, comparing Guffington's ails to his. His entire life was dedicated to finding some meaning, perhaps with his own people, but... had the past fifty odd years truly been meaningless?

"...Perhaps life you gives you meaning without you even knowing it..." he added.

"And it will be interesting to see how Guffington has changed since we last saw him. An... extravagant event waits, it seems. I wonder what meaning that has to him. And there is the part about murder... what do you make of that?"

Nyx also watches Guts walk away, but listens to Hybros intently.

"Is he always so serious?" she comments, jerking a thumb to Guts' retreating back.

"Anyway, The Great Guffington, as you have called him, sounds like a fascinating man, one I should very much like to meet at some point. It seems to me that he knows both very little and an awful lot at the same time, but maybe I'm misinterpreting things from what you've said. I think life does give us meaning, yes. Not necessarily specifically just being alive, but the things that happen to us and the people we meet - they change who we are and what we intend to do."

She looks around the room and gestures vaguely at the rest of the Hall

"Just look at all these heroes. Something somewhere happened to each and every one of us to make us want to become heroes. The reasons I have heard so far are so very different, yet here we all are, and some with very different motives and plans for the future than others. It is perhaps the events we have all experienced that drew us here and keep us here, rather than going out into the world as brigands and mercenaries. We find our own meaning every day." she screws up her face and shrugs "Well, that's how I see it, anyway."

Her expression brightens a little, and perhaps slightly inappropriately

"I'd forgotten about the murder bit in all the excitement of the party. He's not the type of person who'd try to murder us is he? Or does he think someone's out to get him? Clearly he knows something to be asking for Heroica's help, but the more I hear about the man, the more intrigued I become, really."

Thothwick and Hoptet walked across to Nyx, Docken and Hybros, the former nodding a greeting to Guts as they passed.

"Good evening, Mr. Hybros. Mr. Docken, too, it's been a while. I saw a mutual friend of ours earlier tonight. Ms. Nyx, are you still available for that beverage? I believe there were one or two things we left undiscussed. I'm Mr. Docken and Mr. Hybros could join us. Oh, and I don't believe you've had the pleasure to acquaint yourself with Hoptet, my beau."

Posted

"Master Thothwick, Master Hoptet! It's been too long since I last spoke with you. How was the Foundation Day ball?"

"Intriguing, to say the least."

The two Metasimians took the opportunity to join the group, and sat at their table.

"The Wolfgang invited themselves, reinstating their views of overthrowing those with more gold in their pockets then themselves. It's now worse than I could've possibly envisioned. They've... made a new friend. Baba appears to have left the wastes outside Salmanda, and has taken up residence in Eubric, aligning herself with them. However..."

"She bring Bluto! They in Eubric! Alife!"

"*cough*Alive*cough* Yes. It appears there's a shimmer of silver in this cloud... But, for tonight, at least, we can relax, before she and her coven make their next more. How have you been since our last encounter?"

"That is...both terrifying and disappointing - I have been well, fighting with Master Nihai in the Fields - I had hoped for better news. The Wolfgang have begun to influence even some of our fellow heroes, who want to join them and help them overthrow the six Houses. I had hoped that Foundation Day would - in a better way - be a day long remembered; that it would see the end of Steerpike, and would soon see the end of this rebellion."

As I speak, I search the Hall for Thormanil or Cinna, but can see neither.

"What does Baba plan to do now, do you know? She was already so powerful, but seemed content to stay in the Kalakita Bog. I take it she is still forcing Bluto to stay with her?"

Posted

Thothwicks eyes widen at the news that there are Heroes who support the Wolfgang. "So our colleagues are supporting a terrorist organisation? I sometimes ponder as to whether we use the term 'hero' too liberally... As for Baba, she plans to rule, as Queen of Ulric Wolfkin's new world. From what I could discern, the Wolfgang's lieutenants were not pleased with this arrangement, though it counts for nothing now they're deceased. And, yes, Bluto is her prisoner. His youth has been taken from him, and has aged so much that I almost failed to recognise him. He managed - though how, I know not - to leave a note, before he and his captor departed. They're somewhere, out there in this city. Right now."

"At least that is good news, that the Wolfgang leadership is crippled...though I'm not sure it will matter. What did you see of Baba's power? Do you think Heroica will be able to challenge her?"
Posted

"Well, in the brief time we spent with her she hypnotised an entire audience full of Eubrics leaders into brawling with eachother, she shot a deadly beam of fire out of her hands, and can summon at least two bipedal lizards that some referred to as 'Dinosaurs'."

"And teleport!"

"Oh, thank you, Hoptet. She can also teleport to hitherto unknown locations. And she revealed she is immortal, or at least extremely long lived, with the ability to carry on doing so. Considering what it took to take down Wren, I'd estimate that it's, at best, going to take the lives of a few more of our organisation, and at worst, will seal the fate of every man, women and child in Eubric. I'm actually in the process of assembling a team to try and bring down tyrants like her. Would you, perhaps, be interested in hearing more?"

Posted

"Not much weakness there. Unfortunately, though I am well aware of the threat Baba presents and strongly desire to both defeat her and rescue Bluto, I cannot commit to such a team in the near future. I am most likely going to be leaving on a quest with Master Holla and Master Hybros. I hope that when I return, Baba will not have caused any more Damage and that I will have the opportunity to go after her."

Posted

"That's shame. Your name carries quite the bit of wait amoungst this organisation, and all it would require of you is a simple signature. Are you sure I can't tempt you? After Wren, and Baba, and others we'll have to endure? Well, I wish you luck in your future Quest, you'll certainly make a fearsome trio to be reckoned with!"

Hoptet leans forward, and gingerly waves his hand infront of Nyx and forces a weak smile.

"Hello? Quiet?"

"No, sorry. Perhaps when I return, if the situation has changed, I will be forced to reconsider. Yes, we've quested together before for this same employer. Thank you, and good luck to you as well."

"Master Hoptet, best of luck with the language; it certainly is a mix of a number of older languages and can cause more than its fair share of confusion."

OoC: I forgot: Does Animal Talk work with Metasimians? If it does, pretend I just used it to talk to Hoptet.

Posted

"Here's hoping the situation changes, swiftly."

"Thank you Docken! Humanish getting better know. I mean no. I mean now. Yes, it has difficult parts."

OoC: Racist, Metasimians are people too! And besides, he can understand Humanish, he just struggles with using it.

OoC: Oh, I didn't realize that (That he could understand it, not that Metasimians weren't animals. ). I just remembered you translating for us during Quest 14, and didn't know if it was just when he spoke to us or when we spoke to him also.

"And for the better, not for the worse. Though I would not mind if it remained unchanged until I got back, or at least remained such that I would get a chance to be in the party that confronts Baba."

"Is he always so serious?" she comments, jerking a thumb to Guts' retreating back.

Hybros shrugged. "It is just who he is. He has it where it counts."

"No one knows anyone, not that well, eheh. I do not know if he is capable of murder, but I imagine many people would want to kill him for his money. Perhaps we are there to protect him."

"Good evening, Mr. Hybros. Mr. Docken, too, it's been a while. I saw a mutual friend of ours earlier tonight. Ms. Nyx, are you still available for that beverage? Nyx nods along as Hybros talks; he seemed to have considered the world and the people in it. She wasn't sure if she agreed or not, the answer most likely was "probably", but it was certainly an interesting conversation.

Hybros nodded. "I see. And what are your plans, Nyx? What do you hope to... accomplish here?"

Nyx looks thoughtful for a while, frowning, before answering. "Do you know, I'm really not sure.. The life I had before, the abilities I have and my desires for the world all sort of led me here. I just want to make sure that anyone can get help from the strong, just by asking. It makes me feel... respectable, I guess. I admit I like the occasional rewards, but I'm not here for the money, no matter how much I like having some coin to spend, but pretty much all I have I spend to make myself ready for the next quest, the next opportunity to do something ... worthwhile. I suppose that all I want to accomplish is having done something to be proud of."

Thothwick and Hoptet walked across to Nyx, Docken and Hybros, the former nodding a greeting to Guts as they passed.

Nyx abruptly breaks into a beaming smile.

"Thothy! You know these gentlemen? I would guess you do by the way you greet them, and it gladdens me to see you greet them so positively." she turns her wide and warm smile on Hoptet too "And your beau! Hoptet, it's lovely to meet you, I've heard so much about you! You must miss old Thothy while he's away, but don't worry, we all look out for each other. Well, most of us do, but that's another matter. Oh, now where are my manners?"

and with that Nyx runs off to the bar to collect a tray full of Flaming Gumballs to share with the table.

"Thothy are you still trying to recruit people to the anti-witch movement of yours? You know I support you, but I can't include Atramor in the group of people you want to oust, no matter how much he might make me want to punch him sometimes. Oh, and while I remember, Larry said I should speak to you about some bombs?"

Drake looked behind him. Dak was flying straight to him, and fast.

"Drake! Drake!"

"What? What?"

"You know how you think you're the only living person in your family?"

"Yeah..."

"You aren't.

Drake raised an eyebrow and grinned. Then the grin faded a little and he began to look surprised.

"Huh. Well that's interesting. Who is it? Is it male or female? Where are they right now?"

"I, uhhh.... I can't answer the first two questions because I don't actually know who they are, but they... they are in Eubric."

"What? Did they know I came here so they just moved too?"

Dak gasped and then coughed. Drake stood there, as if Father Grogmas was to burst in through the doors of the hall at any second. He tapped his foot on the floor a few times, and Dak started to get sweaty. Finally, he spoke.

"I was doing some blood tests and looking at a partially burnt family tree. There was a missing link in the family tree, and I figured that it was probably just somebody unimportant. Then I looked at the blood test results and it turns out that you are related in some way to somebody in the Wolfgang."

Drake collapsed instantly.

"OHDEAR WHY DID I ASK?"

"Look, at least you don't know who it is. I'm still trying to figure out how you are related, but all I know is you are."

"Well, that's better. Let's go get lunch. Horsebeat Sandwich with peppered dragon tail sauce?"

"You bet!"
