"...Right. So who were your parents? Who named you? How did you get the eyepatch? Why the get-up you're wearing?"

"I don't know. I don't know that either. I have an eyepatch because it was the best-looking face at the moment for my outfit according to 'Brickdoctor', and I have this outfit because he told me that Forestmen look awesome. Whoever he is.

"And wherever any of that came from, it doesn't matter! My stats still remain the same."

"So all you remember about your past is that it is all connected to this 'Brick Doctor'? I think I know the answer, but do you have any desire to find out about your past or more about this Doctor?"

"I have never used the word kingdoms, Hybros. But I see what you're getting at. We don't do anything unless we get paid. We don't do any good. Be it up to me, we change that. I thought you understood that much. And you misunderstand, I will not die before some things have definitely changed." The raider smirked, and rolled his eyes at Atramor. "That was a declaration of action, not a plan to achieve immortality."

"But how are we to decide what is actually best for everyone? You wish to help people in a more pure way than we do now, from your own perspective, but who, and why, should we help them?" Hybros shrugged. Not that he cared all that much about helping others, but... "I am sure you recall our quest underneath Eubric, where we defeated Mephistopheles and got that rod there." He nodded to the newly-clothed Atramor. "...it was never about the money, the single gold piece the Norn orphan offered us. We all came to help, despite any... other motivations, heheh... What about then?"

"And yes, the hope is that we can accomplish all that we hope to in this life, but I can say from experience that death is not so convenient..." Hybros grinned wickedly, but there was sadness in his eyes.

Atramor scratched his chin, and fed McCafferey another handful of chicken feed.

"Count me out, then. I never said anythin' about workin' for free, don't go seein' me as some sort of righteous volunteer - but I like to think I'm a half-decent person most of the time, would've assumed you did too."

The raider raised an eyebrow at Hybros' last comment. Did he just say he was a second Sorrow? Guts preferred his initial idea, that he was a demon. "We did good then. Even though some would still have seen it done differently. Tasks like those are the ones the 'Heroes' should be doing more of. We wipe out the Wolfgang, sort out the slavery, fix the Town Watch, and help with the injustice in this dump. That's the plan. You can't deny these things are for the better of the majority. Easier said than done, but if I am not going to step up and do it, who sodding will?"

"Not really, no."

"When did I ever say you would have to go poor, Gibbin? Mysteriously gold seems to make it's way to the ones in high places. Not the goal, but it's just one of those truths... Besides... What do you think the Wolfgang are holding onto. Be it up to me, they're the first targets..."

"Not really, no."

The raider sighed. "Figured. I'd offer you a strong drink, but you'd just question the nutritional value..."

"Good, thought ya' were assumin' I was heroing for charity and it didn't fit with your 'grand plan'. But mate, if all that stuff ya' just said ain't doin' good, I dunno what is."

Seeing Guts' confusion, Hybros winked an brandished his sword. "I speak of the death brought on to many others by myself, hehe. I am sure many had... hopes and goals as we do, but time, and death... were not on their side." He frowned again, however, at Guts' proposal. "But... who are you, or anyone, to determine who rules and who does not?" Not directly familiar with the Wolfgang, but having heard many similar debates in the Hall, he continued. "The Houses are not much better by some standards, and they each serve a certain purpose or goal, heh." He thought back to Daneeka and the Ji Pei. "And slavery benefits the slavers just as much as death benefits us. It does... not make it... right, but we do what we must." The floor, again, was the imp's focus.

"Nutritional value? I don't care about the vitamins, meats, vegetables, or minerals in the alcohol or any other drink; I only care about its effects on stats, nutritious or not."

The raider saw Benji standing in the corner. Great. He hated that guy.

Benji looks warily at Guts. Sheesh. That guy got on his nerves. Stuck-up.

Impatiently, the raider said: "Rules. This city has none. It allows for everyone to make their own rules. The Town Watch was once an organization that tried to create a fair set of rules for everyone, but now they're just another set of rules that benefits them as they see fit. Same for the houses. I do not follow any one set of rules. Not the Houses, not even Heroica's. There are no rules for what we should and shouldn't do. All I know is that there are those that cause pain and suffering, and we should get rid of them. If you are trying to sympatize with slavers, perhaps I should send you on the next ship to Strivvi. See what you think then." The raider held his head in his hand. This was all just timewasting philosophical megablocks.

"Nutritional value? I don't care about the vitamins, meats, vegetables, or minerals in the alcohol or any other drink; I only care about its effects on stats, nutritious or not."

"Why did I know you were going to say something like this? You know I don't understand any of that what you just? I don't know what the hell a vitamin or stat is. Do me a favor and just inform me of the important stuff. Alright?"

"Sure. Level, XP, WP, Power, HP, Defense, Ether, Gold, Equipment, Inventory, GP, Reputation. I think that about covers the important stuff."

The raider closed his eyes and covered his face with both hands. Slowly the raider said: "Important events that would be beneficial for the current objective to know about. No more gibberish, okay?"

"And this organization that you wish to lead... will only accomplish creating another set of rules to follow. Your rules. As I said, a werehound-eat-werehound world. Eubric has been one of the more... enjoyable places of my many travels, because there are no rules. Pointless to try to fix this with another set of rules. Sympathizing with slavers would be the same as them sympathizing with killers. We are one in the same; we kill because we must. The difference between you and I, I believe Guts, is that I do not pretend to help others by killing those that hinder them. I simply kill because I must."

Posted

"You are missing the point. Hybros. I like you, but lately you've been just so... annoying. I don't care why you think you must kill. You feel you got to kill, that's on you. As long as you don't kill the good people, we're good. I think that I can benefit Eubric. Make it a better place. If this shithole in it's current state is something that is your favorite place on the world, that's too sodding bad, because when I'm through it's gonna be a whole lot better. Perhaps not for you, but for the sodding people."

"Got it."

"I am human, Atramor. No matter what I can do, I will die, sometimes sooner than I'd like, sometimes it can't be soon enough for me."The raider wiped away the blood from his nose, and answered: "I'm... good. Just trying to convince these young fools it'd be in their best interest to follow me."

"I may be young, but I'm no fool old man. And death isn't all it's cracked up to be - I see it closer and closer each time" Nyx's comment is lost in the whirlwind of philosophical debate. The conversation moves on apace.

She leans back, sipping her drink and listening with amusement. At a moment when Atramor isn't actively engaged in the conversation she leans over to him to nod and say "Nice outfit. You smell a damn sight better too" before leaning back again to carry on drinking and listening.

Hybros narrowed his eyes. "Of course, annoying. Think of me how you will, it makes little difference in the end. Good people, bad people... it is irrelevant. I kill because I must, it is simple. It does not matter who you personally think deserves justice. I do not care unless it helps me." He barely whispered the finish of his sentence.

"Two things mate. Firstly. It's kill or be killed. Secondly, the problem you are all encountering is that you believe that there are good people and there are bad people. Of course Yer wrong, there are always and only Bad people; Just some of them're on different sides. And that's the thing about equality, Everyone's equal when their dead. That's my way o' thinking :classic:"

Atramor nodded back to the battle mage with a chuckle. "Generally it ain't something I concern myself too terribly with, but hopefully it'll help out my diplomacy - which I swear has gotten better."

Posted

"Why?" Guts said it coldly. Somewhere in the argument he had gotten up, standing over the imp. "Why must you kill? Who or what orders you to? Your nature, your master? Do you kill to stay alive? What the hell compells you to kill, Hybros?"

The raider turned furiously towards Sarge, fast, very fast, Lifestealer had gotten in the raider's hand. "This is not your concern, old fool. Sod off."

Posted

"Maybe he does it 'cos it's fun?" Nyx mutters into her glass, shrugging. She looks over at Atramor and realises she hadn't wanted to punch him or strangle him in all the time they'd been sitting at the table (so far), so maybe his diplomacy was better after all. Musing on this, she keeps drinking.

Atramor winced slightly as Guts invited a fireball to his face. "Arena's down the hall, mates, why don't ya' figure out why, who, and how much you enjoy killin' in there instead?"
