The_Customizer Posted September 22, 2013 Posted September 22, 2013 Erdathcath briefly pops into the hall to sign up for Quest #83. Quote
Kadabra Posted September 22, 2013 Posted September 22, 2013 As a Town Watchman appeared and posted a sign-up ad, Arasmyth looked up from his drink. He wasn't sure whether or not he was grateful that nobody he knew was in the Hall currently - for one, he didn't have to explain himself to those who knew about his death, for another, it made small talk difficult. Besides a couple of trades he'd made with other Heroes, and a brief discussion with a Sorcerer, he'd remained alone in the corner. However, the new Quest caught his eye. He was a supporter of the Hinckwells, his first Quest had been for them and he had fought for them in the war. He had a good reputation with the family and he had his reasons for being such a strong advocate of theirs. He quickly penned in his name for Quest 83. Might as well remind the family that he existed after a year of being off the map. Quote
Endgame Posted September 22, 2013 Posted September 22, 2013 "I'm talking about eventually. I think that it has something to do with-" He stops, realizing he doesn't want to give more away than he has to. "Does this ink have anything to do with resurrection whatsoever? Does it have any uses? I'm at a loss here, and that's all I want to know. That's all I need to know," I look carefully into the swirling vial of plasm, small green sparks of light dancing in the black ink. "Hrmmm... It almost reminds me of..." I think back to the studies of my father. He would read necromantic fables to me like bed time stories: many of them, of course, modified to contain aesops and be a bit more family friendly. "Giving me a little bit of a nostalgia trip, that's all. Ever heard of the "Lifespark?"" Quote
K-Nut Posted September 22, 2013 Posted September 22, 2013 "Giving me a little bit of a nostalgia trip, that's all. Ever heard of the "Lifespark?"" "Haven't heard enough of it lately," Althior rolls his eyes. "It's a fairy tale, nothing more. It's a sign of hope in dark times that children are told about by their parents." He leans back, "The Oculoid's are things we fought on this quest. They spoke of how they were created by the lifespark, but they were insane." Quote
Endgame Posted September 22, 2013 Posted September 22, 2013 "Well, the story I heard about it was woefully incomplete. About 2 sentences: "The Lifespark was from the gods. No mortal being can even touch an ember , their bodies would be crushed and devoured by the power of the flame." More of a warning, really. Althior, are you certain the spark is a fake? These "Oculoids" seemed to do a damn good job of shaking you..." Quote
Bricksandparts Posted September 22, 2013 Posted September 22, 2013 Johon hears something about the lifespark and sees Sorrow and Althior speaking of it. Johon walks over and sits down next to them. "The life-spark is not only real, Althior, it has been used before and probably IS being used by those Oculoid's master. The last time I believe it would have been used was in the creation of the Proggs. I still think everything that happened to too similar to the progg's goal. The thing is, is that we got rid of the Regret so I don't know what it would be." Quote
K-Nut Posted September 22, 2013 Posted September 22, 2013 "It's a fake. They were insane. That's what made them shake me. Their twisted minds, it sickened me. I've never seen anything like it. And trust me, I have seen a lot. Much more than any man could and keep his sanity." Althior looks past Sorrow with old eyes. "They unlocked memories from within me. Memories of Death. A minute here is a lifetime over there. And I spent hours dead here. I'm much older than I look now. I don't even know how long I suffered there, but it was all forgotten until the Oculoid's unlocked it." He leans back, chuckling, "Hell, I've got to have a couple centuries of memory in here. Of death and suffering..." He trails off Althior sees Johon sit down and rolls his eyes. "You're as blind as them, Johon. There is nothing that can exist with that much power. It's impossible." Quote
Pandora Posted September 22, 2013 Posted September 22, 2013 Tarn looked across at the Battle Mage. "You seem troubled, Nyx. Do you wish to talk about it?" Nyx looks up at her old friend and smiles. "Nah, I'm just thinking some stuff over, that's all. That deep contemplation rubbish us mages are supposed to do all the time. Y'know, life the universe and everything? That stuff." she laughs lightly, but Guts' discussion about power still preyed on her mind slightly. "Tarn, it really is good to see you again. You seem much more content these days, although I know you miss Ella badly. Dastan ... it's a place that calls to the soul really, isn't it? The way you both feel about each other, you'll see her again, even if we do have to make a damn quest out of it." with this last remark Nyx grins and winks at Tarn. Quote
Bricksandparts Posted September 22, 2013 Posted September 22, 2013 "What do you think is so impossible about it? Yes it is extremely powerful, and likely to be used in the wrong hands, but it DOES exist. The proggs are living proof of this, and the Oculoids too, probably." Quote
Endgame Posted September 22, 2013 Posted September 22, 2013 (edited) "...I was offed when I was 6. Months, not years. I suppose my afterlife would've been a lot different from yours... I myself lack a certain clarity to it." I rub my temples. "Phantom images. Nothing more. Johon, what are you talking about? Regret? Proggs? What are they?" Edited September 22, 2013 by Endgame Quote
Bricksandparts Posted September 22, 2013 Posted September 22, 2013 "If you've read the questboard, these Proggs are apparently trying to make peace with mankind now, which hopefully they are doing. A while ago, I was on a quest where the Proggs, under their leader, were trying to conquer the world. The Regret, though, had planned to take the empire after their leader fell. It gets a lot more complicated, but that's the gist." Quote
CMP Posted September 22, 2013 Posted September 22, 2013 (edited) Atramor rolled his eyes at the one and a half undead brooding in the corner, sharpening the new scythe-esque hook at the end of the Pheles Rod with the General's Dagger until it looked keen enough to actually cut into something. If he was going to rely on the weapon, he'd at least to have some options on how to use it. A slight feathery ruffle came from the rafters above him, followed by the shape of McCafferey flapping down to a windowsill. The regulator blinked, raising an eyebrow. The chicken stretched her wings. '~I must go for a time, but it's not as if you're doing anything of import or even remote usefulness. And if you do happen to find something to do, try not to die...~' With that, McCafferey dropped out of the window, gliding off. Atramor was already back to his task at hand, unfazed. He was no longer bothered by whatever her intentions were. They weren't going to affect him. Not anymore. "Sick of this life and death garbage, need somethin' simple to do," he grumbled, after he'd finished, walking over to and scanning the Questboard briefly before scribbling his hardly-legible signature under Quest 83. Rumble Strike Posted September 22, 2013 Posted September 22, 2013 Tarn smiled at Nyx. "just remember that the Mage side of your character is now tempred by your Barbarian side, which simply wishes to smash things! Ah, Dastan. Such an amazing place. I would love to go back, I must admit. Not just to see Ella, but to see Victor and our U'Kin friends too. As for contentment, since we bested the 108 Stars of Destiny and rescued Jun, the failure weighing on me from our initial attempts to rid the pagoda of them has lessened. The failure haunted me so, Nyx, but Ella, sweet Ella knew that we would rescue him and complete our mission. She wrote to me saying so, and that helped spur me on." Quote

Endgame Posted September 22, 2013 Posted September 22, 2013 "Need I remind you Heroica has already fought 2 gods, Althior?" Quote
K-Nut Posted September 22, 2013 Posted September 22, 2013 "Need I remind you Heroica has already fought 2 gods, Althior?" "I never said they didn't. I'm merely stating they don't have the power that this life spark is said to have." Quote
Pandora Posted September 22, 2013 Posted September 22, 2013 Nyx looks over the Raider in front of her. Such a warm heart, and a kind and honest soul. She was lucky to know him, she realised. She should hold onto this thought, she realises. "You've had recent great success then? And Ella wrote to you expressing her faith in you?" a pang of jealousy; he had a letter at least "You're a very lucky man, do not let her go. Defeating the 108 Stars of Destiny does not sound like a small act, she is right to be proud. And to have faith." another warm smile "I try to keep a rein on my barbaric side - imagine if I smashed all the tables! Scheherezade would bar me and I'd have to go back to getting other people to buying me drinks! Plus the company's a little more interesting here." a grin "Nah, I have to resist the urge to smash stuff, no matter how much people tempt me sometimes." Quote
Jedi master Brick Posted September 22, 2013 Posted September 22, 2013 Elgar walks over to the quest board and scribbles his name under quest 83 Quote
Rumble Strike Posted September 22, 2013 Posted September 22, 2013 Tarn smiled wistfully, "It is I who is lucky. To think that a princess in a faraway country shows such warmth for an orphan who has spent most of his life being taught in a monastery. Some might say the world has turned upside down, myself among them!" His mind turned to his previous Quest. "Nyx, you would have loved Xu, and flying in an airship over the land. Hearing tales from the villagers who live next to the most beautiful falls. And I am sure you, with your stout heart and fiery nature, would have loved pitting your strength against those of the 108 Stars. I was lucky to have had Hybros as party leader the first time, and Atramor with me the second time. Their tactical awareness and strategising is truly remarkable. Much like that Ogre in the final Dastan battle, actually. What Quests have you been on recently?" Quote
