"If I were you, I would sign up for a quest or two, to really get your Heroica carreer started."

Matthias looks around and seems to notice the quest sign-up board for the first time. He hops down from the chair, approaches the board, and studies it for a few minutes, then quickly signs up for quests 88, 89, and 90.

Rats, someone's posted a notice too high for him to reach...

He pushes his chair over to the board, climbs on, and reaches high to sign up for quest 91.

"When do we get started?"

Nicole shuffles about, still leaning on the wall next to the quest board.

"I suppose I should head out. Finish up the last point seven percent of the issues involving the prototype."

Nicole walks out of the hall and back into the bustling city streets, letting a blast of cold air into the hall.

Matthias looks up from his seat near the questboard and read Benji's name. Recognition dawns across his face.

"Benji Carvenhall? I heard about you in one of the taverns outside the city. Men spoke of your prowess as a warden on the fields of glory."

"Tis true," Hoke said with a shrug, "Mayhaps you can tell me the story of each of these fine weapons."

"It might be a little long." Tesni smiled. She drew a blade, its metal had a deadly sheen despite its age. "This is Cryfder, the Sword of the Mountain. It was held in the Hightribe shrine until the day I passed the trials of strength and earned the blade. He was my companion on the long journey to the hall. Even now I can use the blade when threats that ignore the magics of imbued blades face me."

Next she drew the curved, dark amythest imbued sword. "Cysgodion, my faithful friend. His power is so potent... I have taken many foes and sent more to their graves with this sword." The shadows around them deepend a little, casting Tesni in a sinister shade.

The gleam from a diamond disrupted the darkness, "Ah, Dryw ar Zoot, or Wren Over Zoot in the common tongue." Tesni picked up the broadsword, the gem at its pommel seemed to emanate holy light. "A plaything gave me such a weapon to use, I imbued a diamond into the hilt to counterbalance the dark route Cysgodion led me along. I hope it stands in testament to a woman who made her choice."

A large warhammer cluncked down next. "Mellt, weilded by the god of thunder and ice, a diety we on the mountains knew well. I earned this in battle and the gemstones matched the myth of the hammer. This one has been helpful to smash rats."

There was a blast of heat as the next sword was drawn. "Fàelàn was won in the pagoda, a good strong sword. I hope to use it more often." The last blade was golden and carved with a dragon. "The Qilin blade, the sword of a warrior from Xu. I was rewarded this for taking the head of the leader of the 108. I hope to use it in battle soon."

<"Well don't worry, I'm sure you will have a time to prove yourself soon enough. Anyways... tell me about yourself little buddy.">

<Not much to be said. Thormanil was brought down to Smar...somewhere, we met, and now we're here. You really think I'll have the chance soon? I need to get out there and do something, I'm itching to spread my wings! What do you have to do to get picked for adventures?>

Guts looked over the shoulder of the barbarian as she was telling the stories for each blade, nodding as she went along. "Isn't it... heavy, carrying them all, everywhere you go, along with armour and shield?"

Matthias listens to the story begin and moves to kick his pathetic crossbow, his companion on the "long journey to the hall," but thinks better of it and listens to the story.

Guts looked over the shoulder of the barbarian as she was telling the stories for each blade, nodding as she went along. "Isn't it... heavy, carrying them all, everywhere you go, along with armour and shield?"

"Must be a nice problem to have, all those options to get armed in the morning...."

Jess wandered into the hall after another long absence.

"I wonder if anyone will remember me..." Jess thought to herself as she sat at a table in the middle of the room and ordered an ale and a turkey leg. Jess then tucked into her meal, and waited for someone to notice her.

Matthias looks up from his seat near the questboard and read Benji's name. Recognition dawns across his face.

"You... uh.... have heard about me? Wow, well uh thanks. Yes I am Benji Carvenhall. And what might your name be?"

"Must be a nice problem to have, all those options to get armed in the morning...."

Guts took out his own blade, the small curved dagger. "I'd go for flexibility in quality, rather than quantity, but to each their own."

Johon sits next to Guts and Mathias. He extends his hand to shake.

"My name is Johon, pleased to see a new face in the hall."

Hoke listened intently to the stories of each blade. "Each of these weapons have been earned with honor, well, maybe except for the Wren blade," Hoke said with a wink. "We should join a quest together soon. I would so enjoy seeing you unleash the power in each of those weapons."

A worn-looking orc walks into the Hall, taking a quick look over the Quest board.

"Huh. Lot of names. Maybe things aren't as bad as they say."

Cinna quietly enters the Hall for the first time in many months. Her normally pristine attire is dusty and disheveled, her staff is showing signs of wear, and the heroic Anniversary Medal is halfway tucked into her cloak. Even Mauryl seems less chipper than usual.

With her head down so as not to make eye contact with any heroes, she heads over to the quest board and scans through the posted requests. Her eyes linger on Quest #90: A Trip to the Circus and she looks over at Mauryl, flying near her head. A weary but mischievious smile comes to Cinna's lips and she signs her name under the quest.

The first step to becoming a hero again has been taken and she heads over to the familiar plush chair by the fireplace. It's been repaired from the damage, something about a chicken, but it's hard for Cinna to really recall the details of events so long ago. She sits down and lets the soft fabric envelop her weary body, staring deeply into the flames of the fire.

"You... uh.... have heard about me? Wow, well uh thanks. Yes I am Benji Carvenhall. And what might your name be?"

"My name is Johon, pleased to see a new face in the hall."

Matthias stands on his chair to bring his face level with the others and takes Johon's hand...

"Hi Johon, I'm Matthias, or Math if you prefer. Peace to you."

...then extends his hand to Benji.

"It's interesting to meet someone with such a 'storied' reputation. The men at one pub on the harbor said you wove tales about ogres, direwolves, and dragons. I want to know if any are true!"

Guts took out his own blade, the small curved dagger. "I'd go for flexibility in quality, rather than quantity, but to each their own."

Matthias can't help but agree with Guts' sentiment. He looks from Guts to Benji to Johon and then to his crossbow. "Any advice on how to get moving on more worthwhile equipment?"

Purpearl walks up to the quest board and glances for a second.

As Purpearl returns to her table, she notices another elf sitting in the middle of the Hall and walks toward the gnome.

"Hi there, Purpearl Berthadhiell, nice to meet you all."

Jess finished her meal and looked around the hall, slightly disappointed that none of her old friends or even acquaintances had come to see her. Dejectedly, Jess decided to go look at the quest board and get back into the swing of things.

"Hm... These three look interesting," Jess thought aloud to herself. Jess then penned her name down onto Quests 88: Fathers and Sons, 89: Reclaiming Glory, and 90: A Trip to the Circus.

Satisfied that her chances of soon going on a quest were high, Jess went to sit by the roaring fire and see who came along.

As soon as Jess sat down, an elf such as herself came and introduced herself. Intrigued, Jess replied.

"Hello, Purpearl. It's a pleasure to meet you. How long have you been in Heroica?"

"Hello, at your service. And how shall I address you?"

"Not long, just a few days. Just returned from my first investigation at the Villa involving some feckless guards' murder. Now resting up, hopefully I can get on some quests. What about you? You seemed like a seasoned adventurer."

"Jess will be perfectly fine," Jess replied with a smile. "I've been with Heroica for quite a while now. Two years maybe? I've just been on a, uh... Hiatus. I'm just trying to get back into it; rebuild my gold stores, see a few old friends. Tell me about your first quest! Did it go well?"

Alexis notices Jess enter the hall. It had been quite some time since she had seen Jess. She walked over to the table with her drink and took a seat. "Hello Jess. Good to see you again, what've you been up to?"

[Sisco]

Jess let out a rather undignified squeal as she saw her old friend approach.

"Alexis! It's been ages! Absolutely lovely to see you again. I've just been seeing to a few of my family's affairs back home, you see. Took me out of action here at Heroica. But I'm back now, and I'm hoping to stick around for a while. What of you? You look well!"

Jess took a sip of her ale and marveled at Alexis, thinking about how much she had missed in her absence.
