Purpearljellyblob Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 Matthias makes a wry face as Purpearl whispers, then realizes what she's talking about and gives a hearty snort of laughter. "No," he laughs to her, "You mentioned visiting family while we were parting from the circus, I think...." "Ah I see, maybe I did mention home, but I don't have a family." Purpearl speaks in a rather melancholic tone. "Excuse me for a second." She gets up, walks towards the quest board, inspects, signs up for Quest #102 and returns to the table. Quote
Masked Builder Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 Can't say I've even heard of one. But I do have a Crimson Venom that could come in useful. There's also a banana here with some handy healing effects. "Just heard of them myself." Benji butts in to Alexis and Dyric's conversation in a rude manner of picking Dyric up and moving him over a good 30 centimetres. The assassin was not as heavy as he looked. "Hoi there, I believe that my dear cousin had already promised me the quiver if she wouldn't need it, didn't ya Alexi? But anyways, I'm here to see if you want me to pay off my debt to you. I mean I'd obviously rather not pay it off but if you really need the gold then I suppose I should offer at least some of it back..." She looks over to Benji who had just rushed over. "Oh sorry, I had forgotten about that. And yes it would be nice if you paid me back." Alexis sighs then continues. "I'm not really interested in parting with my quiver currently, sorry boys." Quote
UsernameMDM Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 Hoke returned to the Hall with a clearer head. He walks up and sits by the Lady Nerwen as she inspects a sword. "How do you like being a paladin?" Quote

Matthias feels his face heat up a little as he realizes his blunder but he has regained his cool as Purpearl returns to the table. "I'm sorry I brought it up," he says as she sits down once again. Wanting to change the subject, he remarks, "I don't understand why more heroes haven't signed up for the next assignment - how hard can protecting one guy for a few days be?" Quote
Chromeknight Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 "How do you like being a paladin?" For a long time I have honoured the gods and drawn on their power for healing and guidance. But I am not sure if serving one god only is my path, or if one only whether serving a god other than Galadrya and Celeborn denies who I am as an elf. Quote
swils Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 What do you think of the situation in Baltarok and the Kingdoms? Did we make a difference? Do some good? "Shoot, I dunno. I thought we were really makin' progress in Baltarok. We kept a bunch of hot heads pretty calm during their clan meet and reunited the clans, we quelled a warmonger and stopped her little invasion. Heck, I almost thought we'd swayed 'em to the idea of a fresh start with the Kingdoms. But then when Imaestym was laid to ruin..." he sighed, "I just don't know. The tension's eased for now, but only time'll tell. They've got Haldor now, and I know he'll provide good counsel to the Orcs. Hopefully he can help guide both sides of the bridge to a peaceful future." Quote

Matthias, one ear cocked to Lady Calmcacil and Master Nihai's conversation, frowns slightly. He has his misgivings about Heroica - mostly just a few heroes - but he didn't like the possibility that his efforts and those of his friends might not be in the right. Quote

Chromeknight Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 Nerwen looks up as Guts joins the conversation. She draws breath to speak, but the many things she wants to say crowd in and she is speechless. A rare event. Finally she says, Perhaps that is the cause of Jess' sleeping sickness. She was sleepwalking the last battle. She could feel him pulling away. Elves do not experience deep intimacy as humans merely do, it is much more... intense, vital, soul-entangling. Quote

UsernameMDM Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 Hoke sat and listened as the others discussed their recent quests. He had fought against one fellow Heroican, and that may have been a mistake. That Heroican had left the Hall for good, and Hoke couldn't help but feel he was part of the reason why. Quote

"There are a fair number of adventurers in the Hall though; it just seems a shame that so few signed up. What do people join Heroica for, if not to go out and be Heroes?" he wonders out loud. Chromeknight Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 Nerwen bowed her head at Guts' tone, and spoke quietly. There is much I, a mere elf, do not understand about humans. It is not that humans can not understand, but that so few choose to try. And sadder still, that fewer elves are open about our experience of the world. An experience which is neither better, nor worse, for what could be a basis of comparison?, but different. And to assume that there is no difference, regardless of who does so, leads to confusion and pain. Quote
Scubacarrot Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 "Perhaps you do not understand because you do not grasp the fact that humans are all different and unique. That is what has spread us around the world, and caused even the strangest of races to have drops of human blood in them, hah. Nerwen's voice remained quiet, but there was more animation in her manner as she replied. I am not sure I follow you. Are you saying that each individual is unique and different. Therefore no generalizations can be made about an individual, each must be met in their own terms. And it is this uniqueness, as a generalization that can be made about any individual that leads to humans' ubiquity. Or are you claiming that humans, as a race, are unique and different from every other race. And generalizations and comparisons can be made between, say, elves and dwarves, or Kobold and Fenrario, or whatever, yet comparison with humans is not possible, therefore I as a non-human can never hope to understand any human, whilst any human is free to comprend the entirety of what it means to be Quessir? "No. What I am saying is that your preconception about humans doesn't apply to every one. There's no common qualities, except the ability to die in the blink of an eye in Elf's life, isn't that right. That's what I am saying Nerwen. I am saying that I have had enough of your constant beligerent elvish 'lessons'." Yes, because everyone from the High Kingdoms is instantly notable for their pre-disposition to mass murder. "Did we, or did we not witness a bunch of cowards in charge at the High Kindoms be very okay with the concept, Dyric. Even the idiot Valentino was guilty, but everyone moved to save him. Pathetic." "They wouldn't slaughter innocents, they'd just use them as meatshields." "Say that again Gnome. You claim to be innocent, you claim that my decisions were unsound? Matthias, more than a little intimidated, is determined not to let it show. He rolls his eyes again, a little less convincingly this time, and says in his tiny deep voice, "I'm not implying anything. I'm saying your 'tactics' were shown to be unnecessary by an elf you called a coward. The fact you think Valentino had anything to do with anything shows how little you know, since he was in an Orcish prison until we secured his release - and did so by saving an Orcish clan leader, and without killing any Orcs I might add." The gnome, having said his piece, turns back to his cider, hoping someone else will draw the alchemist's (or was it raider's?) attention and leave Matthias in peace. "We've heard you two argue on the bridge, we hear you arguing here again and I'll be dammed if you didn't argue on the boat trip back. It's been long enough so why don't one of you act as the bigger person, or if you two really want to continue arguing take it to a court or something. In all my long years I've never heard so much arguing all at once or for so long on the same topic." Quote
Purpearljellyblob Posted May 24, 2014 Posted May 24, 2014 Purpearl's peaceful thoughts are abruptly interrupted by uncomfortable pulses of hostility. She pulls her eyebrows together in bitter countenance and closes her eyes. The elven mage manages a slow deep breath, trying to fend off any wind of unpleasant memories during her time at the High Kingdoms and Baltarok. Regaining back her composure, Purpearl whispers to Matthias, making sure no one else hears, "Grumpy old man syndrome." Quote
