Sisco Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 Jess sat down with Tesni and a strange-looking fellow. "Hello, friend!" Turning to the strange-looking man, Jess said "Hello! Who're you? Tell me about yourself." Quote
Peppermint_M Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 Tesni smiled to see her friend. "Good to see you Jess, spent all your gold yet? Me and this countryman of the librarian's were discussing future pathways." Quote
Sisco Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 "I've spent most of it, but I've saved forty pieces for future use," Jess said, eyeing her change purse. "Future pathways, eh? Interesting discussion! I'm not sure what else I'd like to learn." Quote
Zepher Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 Boomingham finished the beef he was working on and sauntered over to join Jess, Tesni and Eric. "Hello my friends. New quests are up. I suppose I will have to go for the cave noises or the thief-catching, I'm not much of a fighter with all this gait and I don't know if the Shadeux will be all to happy to hire me... not that I like the Hinckwells all that much. Pompous little... has Eric told you of the captured soul we found?" Quote
Professor Flitwick Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 Jess sat down with Tesni and a strange-looking fellow. "Hello, friend!" Turning to the strange-looking man, Jess said "Hello! Who're you? Tell me about yourself." Thothwick was delighted to see new faces joining the table. "Ah, yes, you two were off saving the farm when I arrived. Well, where to start? I'm a Metasimian, and I grew up in a tree-top village in the jungles of Capuchin. My cousin, Byblos (the Librarian here - a lovely man, with a big heart and bigger brain!) joined this order, and I heard so much about it that I just had to join and experience some of the wonder for myself. Every race needs to do their bit to restore order. I was always very apt at sneaking through thick brush undetected, so I think my roguish talents could be put to better use than as my one of my villages many hunters." "I could tell you much more about my people, and their culture (should you so wish), but for now why don't we just stick to the basics." Thothwick extended his arm across the table. "Ah yes, and my name is Thothwick. Howdy!" Quote
Zepher Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 Not wanting to miss his chance, Lord Boomingham walks over and signs up for Quest #5 and Quest #6, before making his way back to his friends. "Lord Lawrence Boomingham's the name. I'm a king of a dead kingdom, and fought in the Orcish Invasion alongside a few of the veterans. Friend of all, admirer of some, lover of my wife and any lady who is lucky enough." Boomingham shakes Thothwick's hand. "A pleasure to meet you!" Quote
Sisco Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 *Snip* "Ah yes, and my name is Thothwick. Howdy!" Jess extended her hand in reply. "Hello, Thothwick! I'm Jess. So Byblos is your cousin? He's a fine librarian. In fact, I saw him a little while ago. Great fellow!" Quote

What happened to your dead kingdom? I myself, nor many or my kinsmen, saw much battle against the orcs; few Orcs made it far through the dangerous jungles. A pleasure to meet you too, M'lord." Thothwick warmly shook the man's hand Jess extended her hand in reply. "Hello, Thothwick! I'm Jess. So Byblos is your cousin? He's a fine librarian. In fact, I saw him a little while ago. Great fellow!" "Pleasure to meet you, Jess. Yes, from an early age he had his head burried in books and scrolls. He was pinned to go far in our politics, but left to try and help the wider world." Thothwick shook the elven maidens hand. "I've noticed an apparent lack of Clerics around here. It might be worth going down that path in the future" Quote
Bricksandparts Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 "My, Alf not want miss Chance." Alf writes his name on 6 and 7. "now I get to go on quest for sure" Quote
Zepher Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 "Well, my young friend, I fought in the Orcish Invasion. Short afterwards, some Mage or another got angry with me, and froze me in time. I awoke a few years ago and found my kingdom, while I have been frozen in time, had quite literally up and gone for reasons I don't know. I drank my way through the money that we had left and then came here! All in all, it could be worse. I could be actually responsible for people, so both I and my people dodged an arrow when I was frozen." Quote
JimBee Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 Returning to the questboard once again, Hybros notices two new quests. It seemed that the citizens of Freeport had began to take a larger interest in the services of those of Heroica Hall, and for that Hybros was grateful. "No rogues? Heh, apparently this so-called town watchman doesn't think a rogue is good enough for a thief...", he muttered to himself, instead signing his name under Quest #7: The Arena. It seemed to him that this Draco fellow appreciated experience, unlike the watchman. (Note: Hybros is now signed up for Quests 4, 5, and 7). Quote

"I can't imagine what it must be like to face a full battalion of Orcs, we only ever faced feral packs, disgruntled remnants of lucky survivors. And to lose everything you've ever really known. Tragic, but your courage and perseverance really does you credit." Ever the sentimentalist, Thothwick subtly wipes a watery eye as he signals for some drinks "To surviving" Quote
Tanma Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 (edited) As De'kra listened from afar, he heard a vibrant figure mention a thing called a soul. What was a soul? It had a connotation of importance in the knight's tone, like capturing one was horrible. As he pondered this, he heard the knight say he was formerly frozen in time. Something about that stroke a chord, that time shouldn't be meddled with. But De'kra stayed silent, observing the heroes as they talked. Edited September 12, 2011 by Tanma Quote
Waterbrick Down Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 Morning...I thought about it but I'm quite fond of my dagger. I plan on upgrading it after my first quest anyway. I appreciate your effort with the calculations. Who's your short friend there? "No problem at all, I must say I'm partial to me own bow as well, though I'd say it's pretty hard to come across one for my size anyways," Skrall chuckled. "This is Master Barur Tormek, one of the few clerics who have steeled themselves to enter this here hall. Barur and I met over some ...choppy waters... shall we say but have since come to a pretty good understandin' of each other." Skrall turned to Barur, "This Donny fellow sounds like a right handful, it's goin' to be a tough chase for whichever three adventurers are selected. Hopefully my years in the highway business will make themselves useful for a change, who knows he may even lead us to baggin' the whole wolf gang bunch, now wouldn't that be a catch!" Skrall trudged back up the stairs to the bar. "Driada Bay, hmmmm.... naw wasn't there..." Skrall mumbled to himself, he just couldn't put his finger on where he had seen the bar maid before. "No matter," he thought aloud and ordered a refreshing tankard of ale, before finding himself a table a little distance from a small figure resting in the shadows. Skrall laid back against a wall and listened to the drone of the stories and tales floating around him. After many long hard years he was beginning to enjoy the company of others, maybe the other races weren't so bad after all. Quote
Jebediahs Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 "Any ideas what other class you will take at level 15 other abilities you'll take on when you become a more experienced Hero? You've been on a quest already, so you must of seen the pro's and con's of most." Due to his father's training, En Sabah Nur silently approaches a table without its occupants' notice. Forgive me for interrupting your merriment but I have a question for the Metasimian. Might your scholarly kin have any tomes on how one could achieve new abilities that don't come natural to one's chosen profession? Quote
Tanma Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 As he watched the other denizens of the hall, De'kra noticed that the majority were either human, or Elven. There also was a fair amount of hybrids of the two races, with attributes from both races. Other races were in short supply. It wasn't that the humans and elves were the only major race native to the Free Islamds, there also was a large amount of green skinned people too. So why were so few of them heroes? Quote

Skrall awoke from his short nap, he stretched taking care not to knock anyone off of their seat. "Bar maid, I'll take a bowl of venison stew if you've got it," he chimed to the busy orc maid. As Skrall waited for his food he noticed the inquisitive stare of the small creature that had been sitting in the shadows surveying the room. "You there, imp, or dwarf, or what ever ya may be, would you like to join me for a bite to eat?" Quote
Tanma Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 De'kra winced as his mind searched it's memory. With a deep breath he clicked, "Sorry, I not drinker. You know why most heroes are Hooman or Elth? I not...from here, I not know." The shade looked at the large figure, sizing him up. The ogre was a large creature, yet something in De'kra's mind told him that he had seen bigger. There was someone so big, he could life up the main isle of the Free Islands. Quote
Waterbrick Down Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 (edited) "No need to drink my little fellow, we shall feast on each other's conversation," Skrall chuckled. "As to the population of the hall, it's true that there are many elves and humans among us, I believe this is partially due to our present location. Of the many races that enhabit the land not many are sea travilin' folks, thus many humans and elves have found there way to this rock and established a thriving society of traders and merchants. Personally speaking of my own kind, we appreciate the forests and hill country of the south western lands and rarely take to sea of our own free will. Also, between you and me, I believe there is still some hot blood between the races that fought against each other durin' the Orcish Invasion. Most of the oppression and sufferin' against the orc kind has been abolished by law, but some resentment and stereotypin' I thinks still exists, even here and thus we're a little more leary 'bout dealin' outright with the other races. However that is the past and I'm glad to see a few of the other races coming to join the ranks of Heroica, as well as seeing some of the old ways of thinkin' being replaced by common decency. At least no ones tried poisoning any of my cows food yet " OOC to Tanma: Most people I think are more comfortable playing a human, or an elf, or even a dwarf because they are more relatable to the iconic characters found in the modern day media stream. Nothing wrong with that though, everybody just has a preference it would get boring if everybody was an orc or an elf or a hobbit. Edited September 13, 2011 by Waterbrick Down Quote
Tanma Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 De'kra nodded slowly, glad to know to call the green creatures Orcs. "Why Orcs invaded?" he asked suddenly, "Where Orcs first from? When war?" Then with a slower apologitic pace he continued, "Sorry, I need knowledge. I...memory not-full, only know last year. The rest not there. Not...even know age. I five thousand years, three years, two hundred fifteen years? There not way to know. You know of I race?" OOC: I can see that. Still, it might be nice to see non Tolkien races, like Kitsune or Minotaurs. Quote
Masked Builder Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 Alexis walked back into the hall. There were only a few heroes in the hall. She gets a drink and pulls a chair up to De'kra's table. "So, you're one of the newer heroes, what do you think of the town" Quote
Tanma Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 De'kra turned to face the elf and clicked, "City...fast? Tone of city also feels...delicate? Like walk on volcanic ground, one wrong step, you in lava. Not...necessarily bad, but changes coming. In marketplace I see weapons that fire projectiles without bow or magic. That big change, now less skilled and weaker people might take down foes with kill-force. Hand Cannons could make rangers not necessary, or least less requirements. But I hope not, rangers of land. Land needs a voice in fast city, or land die. I read city right?" Quote
Masked Builder Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 "I have yet to see any heroes with these hand cannons. Have you seen any?" Quote
Tanma Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 De'kra shook his head and clicked, "Not now. But Mockthril now for sell, for forty gold. Have one or other of you been on quests yet? What quests like?" The shade listened carefully to what the Elf and Ogre said next, as he needed to know what he was getting himself in for. After all, all he knew about Heroica is bits and pieces of things he heard on the way here, and what that nice smelling hermit told him. Quote

Still, it might be nice to see non Tolkien races, like Kitsune or Minotaurs. "Ah the Orcish Invasion, it was about 250 years ago the Ocrs came from the west and I can tell you there were many a troll and ogre among 'em or so I've been told. The orc kind has always taken pride in their strength and ferocity but then those feats of bravery turned into killings and soon into raids and then into an invasion of the eastern lands. They finally attained the old castle Fortaan, but were later routed by the warriors called "The Veterans". Those orcs that didn't escape ended up as slaves to those they had once invaded. The tables had flipped, and I sadly confess there was due cause," Skrall looked down at his empty tankard. "However the servitude later turned to an actual righteous feeling of inferiority, racial hatred, and oppression against all orc kind, even against those who had settled peacably into their own quiet lives. I remember my cousins being sold as galley slaves, villages bein' burned, dams seperated from their children, and rams forced to work on the forestin' crews of Waldurk in the dead of winter till they froze solid. All this because we were thought beasts! MONSTERS! ANIMALS! Only good at butcherin' other beings and bein' butchered ourselves!" Skrall stopped, he hadn't realized he was standining up and shouting at those around his table. The ogre took off his cap and mopped his brow and sat back down. "My apologies my friends, tis a very touchy subject for me. Thankfully from what the librarian has told me things are startin' to look more promisin' for my kind, and I'd thank ya kindly if you'd forgive my outburst. If you wish to know more about that section of history I would recommend payin' a visit to the library downstairs, or maybe chattin' with that knight Boomingham or whatever his name be. I've heard rumors that he was actually there during the war. I have yet to be on a quest yet, but my meager purse could do with some fillin' as well as my family's stomachs back home." Skrall nodded to the elf that had just joined their table and was probably wishing she hadn't. "My apologies fellow ranger, the name's Skrall, I'm a bowman from the south, from the looks of you it seems like you've returned from one of the quests, which one did you have the good fortune of fulfillin'?"
