Returning from a much-needed sleep, Hybros hiked up the stairs to the bar, and chose a seat next to the tough-looking orcish knight, Cronk, and the Barbarian Tesni.

"Heh...", Hybros grunted as he struggled into one of the chairs taller than himself. "So, I hear your names are Cronk and Tesni, I'm Hybros. I saw that you went on the quest to Ziegfried Manor, why don't you tell me a little bit about it? The Ziegfrieds seem like an interesting bunch to me, and seem to be involved in more matters than is generally conceived".

Hello Rogue Hybros. Cronk did indeed go on quest for Ziegfried family. Barbarian Tesni did not as far as Cronk knows.

Ziegfried family certainly eccentric. Cronk think some Ziegfried nice like Mage Mabel and other Ziegfried like Mage Zed not so much. Cronk's party find out Mage Zed have some sort pact with demon in basement. Mage Zed killed wife when other nice mages young and somehow damaged Mage Chesterine. Cronk sad party not find Mages' GramGram. Cronk hope Mages invite Cronk back to help fight evil thing in basement.

Cronk hear Rogue Hybros' party find crate of souls. Cronk think maybe souls are what Evil Mage Zed fed evil thing in basement. Cronk hope Mages put stop to evil thing.

"I quested at the farm, although the battles were no less urgent than at the mansion." Tesni replied, having listened to the orcish knight "We had to end battles quickly, to not hurt the crop. Aye, we lost two fields to hard enemies." Tesni ruefully rubbed the back of her head, losing the sheep meadow had been worst for a girl who had groyn up looking after them.

De'kra nodded at the ogres' outburst, figuring that it was a cultural thing. "Slavery bad," the shade said when the Ogre calmed, "same and hate. Keeps you divided. But a monster of mind not looks enslaving people sounds...familiar. I not know why." As he replied, De'kra heard a Orc propose a theory that the captured souls were food for an "evil thing." Still unsure what a soul was, the shade wondered if it was a type of creature, that normally is forbidden to eat, because of it's powers or rarity. So in stealing a "soul-beast," and using it as food, a terrible crime was committed.

Henry enter the hall, feeling well after actually spending a night at home. He realizes there are two more quests up, which he hadn't seen before. Quest #6 sounds very interesting, he thinks, but then he realizes no rogues are hired. "That bloody Town Watch captain has certainly no idea that the best men to hunt criminals down are rogues themselves. I've found dozens of people who done crimes against people who could affort my help. And mere three people wanted! This captain's trying' to save money, ain't he!" He looks at Quest #7. "Well, I may be no veteran, but I surely know how to fight! And no mages, I'll apply for this one!" He writes his name down at Quest #7.

De'kra shook his head and clicked, "Not now. But Mockthril now for sell, for forty gold. Have one or other of you been on quests yet? What quests like?"

"Yes, I have been on a quest. You need to keep your wits about you when you go on a quest. They challenge you. But they also provide opportunity's to help those who need it."

De'kra nods, and clicks, "What soul look like? I hear heroes from quests talk about captured soul. Is it a kind of beast?" De'kra waited for a response, curious to know what a soul resembles, so that he knows not to let others eat them.

Haldor returns to the hall refreshed, and walks quickly to a seat. He orders something light and a drink of water. He hopes to be able to talk to the certain elf today :classic: , but will wait a while first. Haldor doesn't want to seem like he only came to see the certain elf but it was sort of true, since the quests don't start for ages he wants to pass the time.

Haldor is interested to meet the shade, as such creatures were only spoken of in legend at home.

"Hello friend! How is it being in the world of humans? I am also interested what your home was like, I am sure we will get along fine :sweet:.

I am afraid I don't know much about what a soul looks like, I have been unable to spot one even when a great warrior has died. Maybe they hope to travel to the great feast unnoticed?"

De'kra turned to the stranger, sizing him up. "Soul of death? Explain. Also, you know I race? What I race like?" Knowing a connection to the dead, De'kra revised his theory. It seemed like souls were scavengers, feasting on the dead. Maybe the souls acted as a clean up crew, making sure that the city wasn't polluted by corpses. Without them, the city would be diseased. That is why capturing or eating a soul is wrong, without them the city will fall under a plague.

Haldor decides to tell the shade what a soul is, while keeping a look out for the certain elf. If they arive, Haldor wants to talk to them, he had been memorising what to say to them for a while .

"Well, a soul is basicly a person, a person with no body all see-through. When somebody dies their soul leaves their body and flies to paradise (the great feast) :classic:. Souls sometimes hang around our world if they are unhappy or did not know how they died, these are called ghosts. Ghosts do not eat dead bodies, most cannot even touch objects as they pass through them  .

You say I know what your race is like, am I right in thinking you have not seen another shade before? In Norse legend a shade is an evil soul that lurks in the underworld, but I know little about shades of your kind."

Tesni had spent another day at the library; she was enjoying reading all the knowledge held within. Having been taught her letters and figures by the priestess, the opportunity to increase what she knew was not to be passed up. Having worked up a hunger she had come to the hall in search of friends and food.

De'kra made a laughing click, and explained what he had thought a soul was. "Soul mind after death," mused the shade, "I think I know mind after death, I think I heard of gas people. Gas people take over other people, if villager has no mind. Know what gas people called? Also, I not know I race either, I call I shade because I shadow of person, I echo.

Posted

"Aah, so you are not actually a shade, but instead a shadow of your former self. I'm not sure I know about gas people *gas people? Haldor thought of things this could mean*."

Posted

De'kra clicked, "I old mind mostly missing, I only get glimpses. Maybe it ghost? Gases not touchable either, also gases see-through. I ask of souls because Orc and human mentioned them. Human said heroes find captured souls. Orc mention...dean man...in Mage hut. Orc suggest souls food for dean man. Any of you know more?"

"I think you are refering to the strange bottles the heros found in quest 2, they looked a bit like captured souls. I think the gas inside resembled the purple light in the Siegfried (wizard family)'s mansion. You may be right about a demon or monster in the Siegfried mansion that possesed Zed and emits the purple light, and the 'souls' could very well be food for it.

But why were the Shadeux in possesion of the souls, could they have something to do with the beast? :look:

De'kra shrugged. "Credit not I, Orc made theory. I only heard theory. Who Shadeaux exactly? They one of seven houses, right? They one and crown? I not like crown house, symbol say they rulers. But there six other houses also there. What seven houses do?"

"The seven houses are just big, rich families, always at each other's throats. The Shadeux and Hinckwells are more into commerce rather than war, but I don't know about the other houses. The Siegfrieds are a wizard family who specialise in magic, but I am not overly knowlageable about these things, you would be better off asking the librarian (Byblos) to tell you."

De'kra nodded and clicked, "I think I know place like Free Islands. There one nation, and six villages. One leader per village, leaders focus on only their villages. Those villages fought, their leaders lead charge. The fight for power destroyed them. I should check Lie-bury, need know world. Thank for help, lucky quests." The shade walked away, headed towards the Library.

Haldor, for the second day in a row, had been unable to talk to the certain elf. He knew that if he was going to talk to them he would have to be brave and do something. He decided... to write a letter!

Being a Norse man he was never taught to write properly, but had picked something up on his travels.

Deer Certan Elf (you know yuo are)

I am writing becose I ahave been unable to talk to you for days, my days aer empty and holow when i do not see yoo. You know I alllways think of you and need to see you. :cry_sad: I want to tell you

Haldor's quill breaks and he leaves the letter on the bar anyway, and leaves.

"Excuse me, pardon me, if you could just shift over slightly good sir!"

A strange mage clad in sandy blue and carrying an odd staff was negotiating his way through the crowded hall. He seemed to have come from one of the upper galleries, clutched in his other hand was a large stack of papers and notes. One sheet broke free and floated along a while before being magically returned to the mage. A brief glance revealed it read: "Big Rat, stronger than Rat."

Reaching a door out of the hall the mage tipped his hat.

"Finnegan The Sandy Blue, Mage, Scribe, Beastologist. Don't mind me brave adventurers!"

And with that he left the hall.

But why were the Shadeux in possesion of the souls, could they have something to do with the beast? :look:

Cronk guessing Shadeux either stole souls from Evil Mage Zed's suppliers or were Evil Mage Zed's suppliers. If Shaduex stole souls, Cronk think that might explain why trouble with demon come to head now. Maybe demon kidnap Mage Zelda to force Evil Mage to get more souls by another means. Since Ziegfried Mages want to handle demon alone, all Cronk can do is wait and hope nice mages bash evil demon. Cronk hope Mages find Mages' GramGram alive as well.

But Cronk not want dwell on sad business. Cronk want relax and drink buttermilk with Cronk's friends.

Yes, I think our findings are linked somehow. I think you have a solid theory on it, heh.

I wonder how the Shadeaux are involved in this, though? Heh, only time will tell...

That's disappointing, but at least you stood and fought them to the end, even if the fields were ruined. It also looks like you all found some... useful items. Like that Dread Hat, would look very good on me, hehehehe.

De'kra returned to the hall from the library. The shade walked carefully over to Hybros and the Orc, careful to avoid the light. "I ask library-ape about dean-man," added De'kra, "He say Abraxas dean-man manifestation of pride. There dean-men for other negative emotions also, not know their names. Do you know what demon exactly?"
