"You need not to refer to me in the third person, Mr. Brutenhal, unless you are once again misinformed - I am the Sand Queen. And your associate, Em, is quite right... The Regret is a formidable being. As you said, he is the first being I have ever heard of with the ability to block my visions so thoroughly. Demons have plagued my visions in the past, but The Regret... He manages to stop them completely and utterly.

I have done some research on him. The Regret is only his chosen moniker, you know. In his many milleniums on Olegaia, he has had so many... As my understanding goes, his other titles include The White Devil, The Defiler, The Desecrator, The Silver Death, The Night Hunter, and in some cultures he is simply called Adversary. He frightens me, Mr. Brutenhal. I see no reason to hide that fact."

"Those really seem like made up silly names. What kind of loser makes up a n-"

He then sees the chosen heroes for #105.

"Well... it doesn''t look like I'll be fighting the Silver Ugly."

Atramor blinked, looking up and nodding at the pale, sniffling cleric.

"Good to see ya' again, Ratabor. Will do."

He looked down at the list, then up at the monk he was sitting across from.

"Looks like you'll be comin' along. Thalion too. Who's - what the hell kind of names of Heckz?"

"No promises mate, but I'll try my best not to die."

He hears Atramor mock his name, even though it was a made up name but Atramor meant to mock his real name. He then walks up to him.

"I'm Heckz Brutenhal, at your service unless you decide to make fun of my precious name once again."

He produces a ball of darkness in his hand then he quickly makes it dissapear.

"And you are?"

Atramor stared, unimpressed. "Atramor Gibbin. Regulator. Badass lockpick. Your party leader."

"I dont know... I think you are right; I feel we are doing right by the people, but who are we to say what is right and what is wrong. I know what you say, we were together on #44 and what Bonapartes did to those rebels, as opposed to what they said they will do, made me regret helping them in their time of need." He takes a sip of his homeland wine. "However, I have to disagree with you that only the strongest change the world. I think those that are able to survive, adapt and eventually thrive on that success can change the world, as you said - for better or for worse. The smartest, fastest, strongest if you will, who live long enough, enough to peek their ability - eventually change the world... And if that is what you meant, then we are in agreement, those kind of people change the world..."

"I am sorry to hear that, he seems like a good kid, and to be manipulated like that, it is shameful... I still cannot believe U'Reeka did what he did, but I think its better for Wally to be out of such nightmare or whatever else it might have turned into."

Thalion takes a glance and his keen elvish sight spot his name on the quest board, "I have to depart on the quest, but thank you for sharing that sorrowful information with me. As painful as it is to learn such truths, I think it was for the better of us all." He bows to Hybros, "Until our next meeting, stay well my friend!"

Thalion approaches Atramor and bows, "Atramor, it is good to see you again! I saw that you were talking to that pale looking guy, who I assume posted the quest, and you seemed to know one another... I saw that time is of the essence so where are we off to? If there is anything more that you know, we can discuss on the way."

Atramor turned away from Heckz, to Thalion, and nodded in greeting.

"Aye, that's Ratabor, mate. Good in a fight even if he don't look it. I dunno anythin' more than you do, but I guess we'll see when we get there. We're headed to the observatory everyone, so round up whatever the hell you need and let's meet there."

The regulator stood, downed the last few drops of rum from his bottle, set a glaring McCafferey on his shoulder, and set off.

Heckz felt sad that he wasn't the party leader this time. He really liked the power.

He overhears Atramor saying were to go, so he quickly goes there without buying anything.

"Maybe we'll quest together some day, Monk, but not today." Boomingham looks at Atramor sincerely. "Stay safe, boy-o."

I chuckle somehow having gotten over my dark mood after the events of the last quest,

"Well, perhaps two paladins are overkill for any party. Quest well and respect the little fellow on your shoulder. He seems a decent enough fellow, although I can't say I appreciate his comment about my angel embarrassing me. Still, I would have probably said the same thing if I didn't know my angel."

I hesitate and then mutter to Barty,

"Watch out for that girl, the red-head. She seems to have her mind open to the influences of demons. She talks well one moment, but then switches the very next. If your charge quests with her, keep an eye out. Make sure she doesn't get too close to any demons. It can't do her or anyone else any good."

"Karie?" asks Barty, his eyes narrowing. "That is one matter that Boomingham and I agree on. She will not do any more evil on our watch."

"I respect him as much as he deserves it," says Boomingham with a wink.

I spy Thalion approaching.

"Ah, Thalion, how have you been since our last quest? Well, it really hasn't been that long ago, now, has it?"

I nod in parting to Boomingham.

Erik watches a somber figure in green enter the hall and chat to some heroes. Probably off on some quest. He thinks to himself.

His guess seems to be confirmed, as Heckz and Thalion group together with the hatted fellow, and Pretzel seems to be wrapping up his conversation with the other old guy.

The barbarian raises his drink to his lips, but finds it empty. He eyes the bottle suspiciously. Wow, all gone?

"What was Pretzel asking about those Crimson Crown guys for, anyway?" He mutters to himself, standing up and staggering slightly as he heads to the bar to get another drink.

After the long walk from Murkwood, Deus reenters the hall after completing his first quest.

He walks over to a nearby table and takes a seat.

Grabbing a bottle of whisky from the bar, Erik turns to see a dark-clothed ranger, his face concealed by a bandanna, and a scruffy tricorne perched on his head, sitting not far from where he'd left his equipment. Erik shrugs, and grabs a pair of cups. He steps forward, but reconsiders, and replaces the whisky, instead selecting an ale.

The slightly inebriated barbarian takes a seat across the table from the ranger, pours ale into a cup, and offers it to Deus.

"Don't think we've met. I'm Erik. Just back from a quest?"

On my way out of the hall, I pass by Erik.

"I'm off. Remind me to talk to you about the Crimson Crown next time we meet. It's all a rather strange business."

Erik nods to Pretzel as he passes by. "Yeah. Figured you were busy talking to Karie, but I'd like to find out what exactly happened back there at some point."

The entire hall seems to darken as the door swings open once again, ushering in one of the darkest beings to ever walk Olegaia walks in, a barbed scepter in hand. His piercing eyes silently survey the hall, the Sand Queen recoiling in surprise and fear as The regret enters the hall. The heroes eye him nervously, the being rarely displaying such audacity as to simply enter Heroica Hall.

heroicanpc-sandqueen.jpg

"You... menace! Begone from this hall!"

The Regret speaks, his voice cold and depraved. His every syllable is laced with a gleeful malice.

S8jrq.png

"Hush, your "majesty". I would hardly think that a Veteran like yourself would dare make such a scene."

heroicanpc-sandqueen.jpg

"A scene? No, Regret, I simply seek to erase evil when I see it."

S8jrq.png

"Ah, I see. You're masking something, Queen. I can only assume that my nullifying of your ever-so-sacred powers has instilled a fear of me in you, hasn't it? And now, you're masking it with bravado in order to "confront" me. You're lying to yourself, just to get the courage to stand up and speak to me. Pitiable."

The Sand Queen shrinks back.

"Now then, Veteran, let us do a bit of a threat analysis. One, you are painstakingly aware that my magic can nullify the magic of you veterans. And for all you know, I may be interfering with those precious artifacts of yours. Two, I am an immortal being, therefore making your chances of actually killing me zero. And finally..."

The Regret's hand becomes engulfed with a roaring flame, just barely contained to The Regret's palm. If he let the inferno loose...

"I hear wood burns pretty easily. So, unless you'd like there to be a pile of ash and a mound of charred corpses where this hall once stood... You'd back down. Now, my dear, are you going to listen to reason and realize you currently can't do anything, or are you going to condemn this hall and its heroes?"

The Sand Queen steps back, head hung low.

heroicanpc-sandqueen.jpg

". . ."

S8jrq.png

"I like you much better when you submit, your Majesty. You Veterans will make fine Devils when all is said and done, but... I digress."

The Regret goes to the questboard and writes something down.

Chosen Heroes for Quest #105: Eternal Reaper:

-Lawrence Boomingham (Zepher)

-Em (Emjajoas)

-Erdathcath Madilinas (The_Customizer)

-Jeaux Elmfyre (joeshmoe554)

-Karie Alderflask (Kintobor)

-Masson Cour

-Punii the Progg

The Citadel eagerly awaits. Prepare yourselves, as myself and my associates await you as well.

-The Regret

QM Note: The quest begins August 2nd - in a week.

With that, The Regret turns to leave, striding past the sand Queen without second thought.

heroicanpc-sandqueen.jpg

"You've just chosen those who will undo you, Regret."

S8jrq.png

"Time will tell. And you're hardly an authority on how this will all end, Queen, considering your disturbing lack of visions."

heroicanpc-sandqueen.jpg

"Hrrrmmmm..."

The Regret was nearly about to depart... If any heroes wished to speak to him, now was their only chance before the finale was upon them.

Karie looks upon the scene downstairs and clenches her fists, feeling something she never really felt: a sense of righteous fury.

I'm going to end this, one way or another.

Erdathcath looks down upon the scene revealing itself below, "Now.. Now is the time to finish this once and for all. Never again will the Regret raise his head whence I have finished with him. Time to prepare myself."

Em rises slowly, striding towards the commotion. He glares daggers at the Regret, his face pulled into a frown.

He had been chosen. Good.

Em grinds his teeth before calling to the monstrosity: "I've been looking forward to our match for a while now. Don't disappoint."

"You bear the mark of my creations. To run into the belly of the beast, where thousands upon thousands Oculoids prowl... Someone as frail as yourself should've never volunteered for this."

Karie does not respond immediately, feeling slightly shamed that her back was covered by a thorny and contorted spiral. Her mind lingered on the dual pronged scar still embedded into her skin. How did he know of this, unless...

"Yet unlike your creations, you have no control over me."

Karie clenches her Paper Doll.

As painful as it is to learn such truths, I think it was for the better of us all." He bows to Hybros, "Until our next meeting, stay well my friend!"

"Maybe you are right about change. You are an elf, after all, and have seen many more years on this earth than I, heheh." Hybros tips his hat. "Good luck, Thalion."

The regulator stood, downed the last few drops of rum from his bottle, set a glaring McCafferey on his shoulder, and set off.

Hybros sits in his chair and watches Atramor turn to leave. He was a bit disappointed that he wouldn't yet be able to quest with the regulator again. He sighs. It was like he said before, such fleeting times and quick departures. He looks at Atramor and tips his hat.

Hybros gets up to go to the bar, but bumps into a large ogre, who he recalls is named Skrall. "Oof... oh, hello there, hehe..." The imp has to arch his neck all the way back to make eye contact with the hunter.

Dyric strolled back into the Hall. He had taken some time off to spend with Claire, but Heroica would always be at the forefront of his mind. So here he was. He would probably stick around for a couple weeks, so how everyone was faring in the summer heat. It was only fair.

The Hall seemed busy. Heroes where coming and going every which way. Dyric decided it would be best to sit down for the moment and wait for any old friends to come to him.

After the long trek back from the forest, Darksten walked into the hall a little after the other ranger who had been in his party.

Looking around, he was happy to see his usual booth was unoccupied. As he transitioned there, he passed the quest board and noted the listed quests.

He had no interest in going underground, so skipped over #107, he scribbled his name on all the other quests though (#105, #106, #109), hoping something other than bug hunting would be involved.

Quest #106 really peaked his interest, so he hoped the quest was still open for sign ups since it was still listed on the board.

After he had made his mark, he strolled over to "his" booth and began to sort through his items.

Skrall had been reaching into his bag to skewer the monstrosity that had just appeared on a well aimed crossbow bolt when the imp bumped into him. "Hello there, small one. If ya don't mind, I was just about to make a wall trophy of the hulking monster that wandered in here down below, care to join me?"

"Whether you're referring to the oculoids or you Heroicans as toys, well, you're right on both counts."

And with that, The Regret snuffs out the flame on his fist, and dissapears in a black mist...
