Skrall had been reaching into his bag to skewer the monstrosity that had just appeared on a well aimed crossbow bolt when the imp bumped into him. "Hello there, small one. If ya don't mind, I was just about to make a wall trophy of the hulking monster that wandered in here down below, care to join me?"

Hybros was tempted to draw his sword, but remembered his training. He looked to the creature. "It does not seem to be much of a threat, heheh... Are you sure it is here to fight?"

Karie watches as the creature whisks away in a cloud of smoke. She sits on his words for a moment before heading to the quest board to see if she had actually been chosen. She had. Scanning everyone else, Karie also notices Masson's name on the sheet, along with Em's and Jeaux. It had been a long time since she'd seen Jeaux. She notices Lawrence's name. She scowls. Now wasn't the time to worry about him. She heads out of the hall, and into the marketplace. She had more than one event to prepare for.

Em frowns, staring at the doors of the Hall.

He sighs, going to take a seat, and decides it best to give his shield a good wipe. Perhaps he should speak with his questmates about their upcoming adventure; some way to formulate a strategy, or at least get everyone on the same page. He was looking forward to the quest, not only because he would get a chance to face the Regret, but because he was familiar with everyone going.

He continues to wipe his shield down, thoughts echoing about his head.

Grabbing a bottle of whisky from the bar, Erik turns to see a dark-clothed ranger, his face concealed by a bandanna, and a scruffy tricorne perched on his head, sitting not far from where he'd left his equipment. Erik shrugs, and grabs a pair of cups. He steps forward, but reconsiders, and replaces the whisky, instead selecting an ale.

The slightly inebriated barbarian takes a seat across the table from the ranger, pours ale into a cup, and offers it to Deus. "Don't think we've met. I'm Erik. Just back from a quest?"

"That's right, my first as a matter of fact," Deus said to the man, as he took the glass. "My name's Deus."

"I agree, having slain both a titan and a kraken, there ain't much worse than those... and he's gone. Figures." Skrall proffered a handshake to the imp, "Skrall by the way. Fancy a drink?"

"Congrashulations. Did it take you anywhere interesting?" Erik replies, pouring ale into the other cup for himself, and placing the bottle on the table between himself and Deus.

He decides to put his cup down without drinking from it as he sees a Progg wander in, argue with some heroes, set itself on fire, and turn into smoke.

Hybros nods in respect, not knowing what either creature was, but understanding that they were worthy enemies. "I have fought a dragon before, and many other dangerous things but none as big as that, heheh... I am Hybros." He accepted the handshake, a little cautiously as he was afraid his small hand would be crushed by the ogre's. He nodded and ordered herbal tea. "I mostly save drinking for battle, eheh... I have seen you in the Hall before, Skrall. Which adventure have you returned from most recently?"

"To each his own." Skrall ordered a tankard of ale. After taking a sip, he continued, "Just got back from Strivvi, had a run in with some of the Wolfgang and another incompetent government. No matter where I seem to go, Dastan, Haddon, Strivvi, here, not a single government seems to be a functional one. What about yerself, Hybros? You've been here as long as I have, if my memory serves me correctly, though I tend to be horrible with remember such things."

"Strivvi... The same as Lawrence, Atramor and Ellaria, yes? I have heard it has not gone well over there, eheh... But much of the same could be said for this city's government , or lack thereof, hehehe. We are supposed to keep the peace in this city, but how can we when we are sent to solve things all around Olegaia? And sometimes it is not for the right side, or the right reasons..."

"Ehem, I just returned from Zylstra, the underground city of gnomes. They are my friends, and I helped.... protect them from creatures from below, in the ruins of Nu Mercution. I fear that I have lost more than one friend down there... And I am already going beneath the surface once again." He nodded to the quest board.

"Yep, I was there with 'em. Yes, went rather awfully. Ya've hit the nail right on the proverbial head, why are we traipsing all about the wide world when there's plenty of issues to take care 'round here. Take that nasty bein' that just strode in here not a moment ago, security in this place should've been such that he was dropped dead in an instant."

Skrall took another pull from his tankard. "Can't say I ever heard of Zylstra, but makes sense that there's as many people livin' under the ground as there are livin' above it, Nu Mercution, rings a bell though. I ain't much one for tiny spaces though, don't know if I'd even fit in such a place as that. So are ya some sort of gnome, wrapped under all those bandages?"

"So are ya some sort of gnome, wrapped under all those bandages?"

"Something like that, eheh. That is also sort of why I am going underground again... I have seen many underground cities, including a Temple of Zoot as well. And I have never seen anyone quite like me on the surface, and I have traveled very far over many years. I know my people exist somewhere... They must be underground. I know Doctor Daneeka well, and if he has found something that can lead me to them, I will take any chance."

"And the underground is larger than you might imagine, eheh..." Hybros pictured the expansive caverns leading to Zylstra.

Hybros shook his head. "No, and that is what I fear. I have never encountered my people before... What if they are like the Shades I encountered on my last quest, with a thirst for revenge? Or if they are corpses, like the Moon Elves whose city was suddenly sunk into the ocean? Perhaps I will not find them at all..." Hybros stared into his cup, contemplating the many possibilities of what he could find.

"Murkwood, interesting, certainly, but not somewhere I want to go back to on a regular basis," Deus replied, grinning slightly at Erik's obvious intoxication.

"Excuse me," Deus says, jumping up from his seat and running to the Quest Board. Deus signs up for Quest #106: Devilish Documents.

He returns to his seat a few moments later.

"Can't say I understand, most of the time I'm aimin' to avoid my own kind. Simpler that way, ya go buildin' yer hopes up as to what the "perfect" kinda folks somebody'll be and yer hopes are never fulfilled. 'tain't worth frettin' yer head over." Skrall mulled over his last statement, but deciding he couldn't take it back, tried to change subjects. "The quest payin' any good?"

Hybros again stared into his tea with his one available eye. Maybe Skrall was right. But he knew he had to find out about his people, one way or another. "I..." He hadn't even looked at the quest reward. "I know the man Daneeka works for. If he has not changed since I last saw him, then I know he will pay well. I doubt he has changed; it is not an easy thing for old men to change, heheheh... Ehehm, listen, erm, Skrall, a few of the others who went to Strivvi said that they were looking for jobs other than one as... delicate, as that. I am not sure what we will find down there, and the outcome of this quest is very important, to me, and to Olegaia. But the Doctor is a smart man, and I believe we can succeed. Come with me, and make the change you wish to make, right here in this city.... eheh."

Hybros paused awkwardly. Why was he trusting this ogre? It was not like the imp to trust strangers so easily. But he did need help, and something about Skrall seemed... strong, and sincere. Hybros wondered what it was about the hunter's own people that caused him to avoid them.

"Ehem, if that beats sitting in this hall all day, heheheh..."

"Eh, yer right and a good number of those folks already shipped out on other quests. Not a big fan of small spaces mind you, but anything beats sittin' round here wallowin' in the free booze and watchin' villains trampsing in and out unhindered all the time. Who knows we might actually do somethin' useful. Be right back." Skrall walked down the stairs and signed up for Quest 107, noting the small reward but shrugged his shoulders none the less. Hopefully this job would at least pay. The ogre returned back upstairs to his drink "Now what's all this about shades and corpses?"

Posted

Hybros nodded appreciatively. It would be good having someone as strong as Skrall along, or so it seemed to him. "Like I said, we were deeper than Zylstra, in the ruins of Nu Mercution. Myself, an auto... auto... machine hero named Jeaux, a young warden, Em," he indicated the heroes to Skrall who were in the Hall. "...and an old and senile relic of a paladin." Hybros gritted his teeth at the thought of Monk Pretzel. "There was also a demon-hunter and a Blue Assassin. The people of Zylstra were being taken by these Shade creatures... we went into Nu Mercution to find them. They were... created by a device that I helped deliver for a Doctor U'Reeka on a quest before. He was down there, experimenting with the device and Moon Elf magic. The Shades... I have seen them in their normal form..." he recalls the frightening image of the faceless creatures and the even more fearsome Void Husks. "But they also possessed elf corpses and copied the shape of the gnomes. We found the people of Zylstra, alive, but the Shades would not accept peace. The answers they had sought would come at the price of many deaths. I did not want to... but I had to kill them, along with the Doctor who defended them. My friend Wally was the Doctor's apprentice... I fear he will never be the same." Hybros looked on sadly.

"There was also the Crimson Crown. Another group trying to control Eubric. I think they are wrong, but sometimes I wonder what it is that separates us from them. We are all fighting for what we think is right, but... not everyone can win, can they?"

It had been a while. She'd spent some time revisiting some old haunts, dropping in on a few old acquaintances; she'd been by the docks anyhow, so why not, after all? A bit of time for her rituals and she had clean clothes and cleaner skin, hair once more neat, shiney and gently scented. She was starting to feel like her old self. Now all she needed was a drink and a fight, and not the sort she'd already found in the bars by the docks. The Hall is the only place for what she needs.

Nyx slinks through the doorway, scanning and listening. First things first though, to the questboard. Her eyes flicker over the list and confirm what her other senses had told her the moment she walked in; Lawrence had already left. As had Atramor, too. Her eyes are drawn to a familiar name: Daneeka. Such an intelligent man, she remembered, it would be good to see him again. It's only as she signs her name for Quest 107 that she notices Ellaria and Skrall's name signed up too, along with Hybros.

Her eyes turn back to the hall to look for Hybros, and is surprised, and amused, to see him next to Skrall. First though, a drink, to wash away the taste of disappointment. Burn away would be better.

"Flaming Gumball please Scherry, just how I like it." she asks as she gets to the bar, not wanting to interrupt Skrall and Hybros, and still faintly amused by the size difference.
