"Trust me, Dyric, if not for the magic of the Veterans, I think I would already by six feet under. They've done what they could, perhaps unknwoingly, but I thank them nonetheless.

Yes, I am. I've out stayed Nature's welcome on this world. Like I said, my bucket list is fulfilled. Saved lives, made a home, met my family... All thanks to Heroica. This hall has done a lot for me, you know. Gave me the medium I needed to help people, gave me a place to sleep. Annd I also happened to meet my granddaughter here, karie, by pure chance. It's been a good run, but I'm at peace.

Now... You said you wanted to purchase something?"

Erik wanders over, hearing a discussion about Sorrow's helmet.

"Mind if I make a bid? This Gold Statuette (useless, worth 100 gold) for the helmet?"

Annienel returns, noticing the large crowd forming around one of the tables. She timidly avoids the table and makes her way to the bar, where it appeared no one was sitting.

"No. It isn't. We're heroes for hire, I suppose. People are in need, they come here... And we heroes do the rest. I've done everything from slaying archdemons to escorting cargo. It's an interesting job, but a taxing one, too. Right now, some dangerous quests are going on... Expeditions underground, laying siege on the castle of an abomination with a god complex... It's rewarding though, at least."

During Sorrows long disorientation on the nature of Heroica, Polly had slowly inched her way forward and hopped up on a stool to listen to the aging assassin more attentively, or get a better look at his decay face, but no one could tell the difference.

"Wow! So did all that work for Heroica do that to your face?"

110 for the helmet. Let's not making this a bidding war, I'll most likely win.

"Decide this among yourselves, gentlemen. I won't get involved."

I turn to the young girl.

"You think it would, wouldn't it? but no. I'm just old. Really, really, old. So, did I ever get your name?"

Benji notices yet another new hero enter the Hall and talk nervously to the other heroes. 'Reminds me of myself when I first got here...'

He walks over cautiously and clears his throat.

"Hello, miss, you're new here? What brings you to the Hall?"

Polly wasn't sure about the assassin. He was really old and he looked it, but she had been always taught to at least answer someone nicely when asked a question.

"Polly and this," holding up her bear, "is Mr. Sanders. We were here to collect a bounty on an ogre, but apparently he isn't here right now, so we're going to look for other stuff to do. What do you have to do to join this organization, do you have to kill something big like Mideron did over there?" Polly indicates the orc barbarian at the bar.

Miderun waved briefly at Polly as she tried to converse with what looked like a long-rotting corpse chatting with the assassin from earlier. The assassin who- what was his name again? Daric...no, Dyric?

The orc blinked hard, and immediately walked over to the group.

"Polly. Zombie." She greeted each of them with nods, then turned to Dyric. He did look familiar. "Are you Rone?"

Well, Erik? What do you say?

Dyric Rone, yes. And you?

"I don't believe Sorrow's that concerned about money right at the moment, and I think you're getting his bow as well. Plus you've already got a nice hat. But certainly, I'll bid 500 gold."

"Well, Polly, my name is Sorrow. And no, no killing. Just a little bit of screening, that's all. ...And you seem to have quite a talent for implying violence against Heroicans. Some of us may seem scary, but none of us are evil or scary monsters or anything."

Dyric Rone, yes. And you?

"I am Miderun." The orc bowed slightly. "Ash dir givrahk lan zar ei vohl. You may have tired of hearing this but all of Baltarok is in your debt. I feared I may never get the chance to thank any of you, this Hall is emptier than I would have anticipated. If I may ask - why did the six of you answer the call to serve Baltarok all the way on this island, where corruption already runs deep?"

Indeed, but I can always use a nicer one. I'll meet your five hundred, plus an Aquamarine.

I- wow. Thank you for your kind words, ma'am.

I can't answer for the others, but for me, I came to help with the stability of the nation. I fight for the same thing here, and it's a large part of why I'm in Heroica. I'm the Assassin of the Light, and that means thwarting the evil and fighting for the good in the world, be it Eubric or elsewhere. I'll help where I can.

"Well that's a relief." Polly caught herself. "Not that I couldn't take care of an evil scary monster or anything like that. So you just wait around until someone comes rushing in here shouting for help or something like that?"

Miderun continued to stare hard, as though she was looking for an answer and was unsatisfied with his. "But why Baltarok? Why orcs? The High Kingdoms called for aid as well. But our call was also answered."

"They pin up a notice on that quest board over there. Just sign up, and hope you're picked. If you are... Well, it's off for adventure."

"That's it? Well I can handle that." Polly pops off her stool and heads down the stairs seeing the sign-ups for Quest 109 she affixes her and Mr. Sanders names. She looks at her bear. "50 Gold Mr Sanders, that's like 45 more than we ever got for an allowance. This is going to be a piece of cake."
