Miderun continued to stare hard, as though she was looking for an answer and was unsatisfied with his. "But why Baltarok? Why orcs? The High Kingdoms called for aid as well. But our call was also answered."

Miderun, I fear you've idolized me far more than I deserve. Two quests were on the board, I signed up for both. Perhaps it was fate that I was to come to Baltarok. I wish I could give you some deep answer as to my choice, but I have none. All I can say is I am glad to have came to Baltarok. I'm glad to have made a difference, and I'm glad the country is better off for it.

Miderun blinked, and sat down on a nearby barstool, pulling a drink over quietly and sipping from it.

"I understand. Thank you in any case for the aid, Givrahkdalgir."

She glanced over at Polly struggling to reach the quest board and write down her name.

"So, I suppose you'll be staying awhile, then?"

Polly skipped back up the stairs and plopped on a stool next to Mideron, she set Mr. Sanders on the stool next to her.

"I guess so, did you know they're raffling off free stuff? This place must bring in quite the cash. You told that Dyric guy you're from Balta...Baltarok? Where's that?"

Dyric walked back to Sorrow to make the final exchange. As he did, he contemplated Miderun's last words.

Givrakdalgir. Dyric's grasp on the orc language was limited at best, but he'd picked up bits and pieces during his time at Baltarok. He couldn't recall hearing the word before, but elements of it sounded familiar. Givrak...

The assassin stopped briefly, grinning. 'Shadow of Light'. Was that the Orcish translation of his moniker? Fascinating!

Dyric Rone, Givrakdalgir. He would have to practice the pronunciation if he were to return to Baltarok.

"I already signed up. Given what these people accomplish it would not surprise me. Baltarok is far in the west, across the sea and behind the High and the Low Kingdoms. It is the land of orcs and their kin, ever under the favor and sightless eyes of Tarok." Miderun tugged down her mask slightly to sip her drink again, a reminiscent smile on on her face despite the would-be intimidating fangs. "It is an extremely dangerous place to live, but it is our place."

"As you were saying, full of wryvens and dragons and stuff. I'm from Bric'lin myself."

"Just wyverns, no dragons. Lots of aepyorni though, dangerous in herds. The weather is not pleasant, and water is scarce too. Not to mention what lies across the river."

"I've never heard of Bric'lin. Is it a country, or one of these...what are they, the Free Islands?"

"Yik, remind me not to go there. Bric'lin's a city, silly. It's just north on one of the trade routes from Eubric. So is everyone from Baltarok an orc like you?"

"Oh. This island doesn't seem that large. Baltarok isn't as nearly as condensed, but I suppose we have more space than this."

"No, we have goblins, hobgoblins, trolls, porcs, gremlins, "thug slugs" as you call them, ogroblins, and ogres."

Polly nods as Miderun lists off the different green-skin races.

"Sure seems confusing. Why not just call them Orcs? Short Orcs, tall Orcs, pig-nosed Orcs, stupid Orcs, cruel Orcs, and wise Orcs?"

Annienal coughs from the back before making her softly spoken opinion heard.

"Because that'd be generalization. I'd be like calling you a gnome because you were short, despite being a human youth... if that makes sense."

She timidly goes back to her cider.

Miderun smirked slightly as she put down her drink.

"So then we can call everyone else pointy-eared humans, short humans, giant humans, hairy humans, and flying humans? We're all very different from eachother, Polly. Goblins even have their own country."

"Oh, I get it. It'd be like me calling you a green human! But you're not, you're an orc." Polly smiled with understanding and opened up a small pocket notebook. The girl wrote down the different types of green-skin making note to put Miderun under "Orc" and the name Skrull under "Ogre". Polly gestures to the Elf, "You don't have to sit all by yourself you know, we've got an extra spot up here." So saying Polly moves Mr. Sanders from his stool to her lap. As her legs don't quite reach the floor, Polly rocks them back and forth between the rungs, humming a little ditty before pausing. "So Miderun, if Baltarok is so far away what made you want to leave your home to come all the way over here?"

Miderun glances over at the elf the young mage referred to, then back at the child herself.

"Truthfully, I don't know, Polly. I love Baltarok, but this is the second time I've left it, and that's twice more than most native orcs. I think I want something more out of life. On most rites of passage orcs try and hunt aepyorni or small rocs - which sound trite, but they're very quick, and temperamental if cornered. And off I went into the den of a damn wyvern to try and prove I'm better." Miderun rubbed the back of her neck. "Things seemed quiet after that for a while. Then a clan leader gets kidnapped, dad moves us all to some village, and everyone's worrying about this bridge they've been building."

The orc pauses, taking a sip of her drink again as she frowns. "Next thing we know our hometown is burning and they're taking an army to the bridge. The dust settles, and...everything's different. And in the middle of it all are some random humans nobody's ever even seen, fighting for orcs they've never even met, and winning. I found out they're part of this organization here. Heroica. And if they do that kind of thing regularly, well...nothing I ever do in Baltarok is going to compare to that. So here I am."

"I didn't just abandon them. I found a purpose, and they seemed pretty proud of that, if nothing else. Leaving Baltarok was understandably difficult, but my father spent a lot of time with those heroes. I guess he'd thought I'd be good at it because he gave me enough gold to make it here."

Benji notices yet another new hero enter the Hall and talk nervously to the other heroes. 'Reminds me of myself when I first got here...'

He walks over cautiously and clears his throat.

"Hello, miss, you're new here? What brings you to the Hall?"

Annienal notices the beast-like man walk up to her at the last minute, feeling intimidated by the reptile like appearance to him. Words were failing to come her, like always. She looked at the man awkwardly until something finally came out, although it was soft and mumbled.

"Hi."

Annienal is too nervous being around the strange reptile man to notice Polly's offer.

I will purchase the bow for the previously agreed upon 170, and the helmet for 670 and my silver ore (worth 60). It'd a bit heftier than I'd planned, but I'm willing to pay.

A long-haired woman marches into the Hall, looking around worriedly. She hurries to the Quest Board, glancing over the names of the Heroes signed up for Quest 109: Dreamscape.

She smiles sadly.

14509285888_156af7882d_t.jpg

"I'm glad so many have signed up to save my son," she mutters. "We only need four, but..."

She glances over the names again, scribbling onto the notice with fancy, curling letters.

Chosen Heroes for Quest 109: Dreamscape:

Bartholomew Docken, Level 44 Warden (Brickdoctor)

Alexander Vandangant, Level 23.33 Hunter (Wedge09)

Annienal Avanar, Level 1 Knight (Kintobor)

Francis Barkley, Level 1 Ranger (Captain Settle)

Please gather at the Redstone Manor on the Eleventh. I will send a guard to escort you, should you lose your way. I have heard many tales of Heroes from Heroica; I know you can save my son!

"Yes, this is for the best..."

Walking over to the Quest Board to find out who will be departing on the next quest, I spot one of the new Rangers, and I also see the name of a new Knight on the list of chosen heroes.

Excellent. Low-Level parties always bode well for a selection of enemies balanced in my favor by the Voice in the Sky.
