Coming back from a cemetery, Mizuki entered the hall, seeing many heroes assembled at the different tables of the hall. Walking to the quest board, Mizuki saw no quests. "This isn't good. The next few quests are going to be hard to go on"

I'm glad they're well. It's odd to think of anyone disagreeing with Denerii, she was very easy going when I met her. Nerwen shrugs, That was a while ago now.

Speaking to the knight she said,

I'm sorry, I didn't realise you were after a shield. I was recently a paladin and have two I no longer need. A strong orcish barbed one and a much weaker but more useful one, with immunity to blindness.

"Pirates, huh? Sounds fun. Yeah, a little gnome with a big spanner? What's he been up to?"

"I'm sure you know that he got work with the Guild of Invision, right? Anyway, he became an assistant to this sniveling wretch of a creature who spoke funny also. Anyway, as it happened, the wretch of a creature used his influence over Wally to sneak him into a sort of underground kingdom, the old kingdom of the Moon Elves. In any case, the wretch created this machine down there that could literally spawn demons. Not just a few, but hundred. They took hostage the whole gnomish village hostage and somehow turned them into demons too. We had to knock out the Baron, Mr. Moke, and many of the others, even Melvin the dwarf from that ship...I forget its name, was down there too, in order to recover them to a right state of mind. We had to fight through scores of demons together with Posco, the former blue assassin, in order to reach the spawning machine and destroy it. Up until then, Wally was a great help even, although, perhaps, a reluctant one. As it turned out however, when we came to the final step of the journey, we had to destroy the last of the demons, but Wally's mentor refused to let us do so. Heck! Up until then I was seriously thinking of letting him go despite his crimes if nothing else than for Wally's sake. However, not only did he refuse to allow us to defeat the final demons, but he also refused to quit his experiments which were putting the whole gnomish village in danger. What was even more intriguing was that then the Crimson Crown showed up and actually wanted to destroy the demons as well. It was probably one of the most uncomfortable situations I've been in. ...In any case, we obviously had to destroy the demons, as much as I hate the Crimson Crown. They were too much of a threat to the village and even to all of Eubric. I'm afraid for Wally though. He didn't take it well..."

Seeing Mizuki, I hail her over.

"How have you been of recent?" I query.

Alexandre sells his Black Knight Armor for 100 gold. (592+100=692)

Alexandre upgrades his shield to SP:11. (692 gold - 110 = 581.) Then upgrades it again to SP:12 (581-120= 461) Then he sells his Winged Sandals for 40 gold. (461+40=501) Then he buys Fighting Boots for 200. (501-200=301) Then he buys Heavy armor for 230. (301-230=71) Then sells 2 deadly venoms. (25x2=50+71=121) Finally he buys the Gladiator Helmet for 120 gold. (121-120=1)

Distracted by Alexander returning to the hall with a whole load of equipment, I call over to the x-Black Knight whom I have spoken to a few times already.

"You know, I can get you a fifteen percent discount on all of that stuff."

I turn back to Erik and Mizuki, "The same applies to you two of course. It's one of the perks of being an Artisan. The merchants can't fool me anymore with their inflated prices." I say smugly, but lightly as well.

"Yeah, a little gnome with a big spanner?"

Matthias' ears go a little red...

Dyric overhears Guts over the noise of the Hall and snickers to himself.

and then his face turns red too as he holds in a laugh as well.

"It was probably one of the most uncomfortable situations I've been in...."

"I know what you mean about uncomfortable situations," the gnome laments, "but at least you weren't pitted against other Heroes."

"You know, I can get you a fifteen percent discount on all of that stuff... It's one of the perks of being an Artisan."

Matthias' mouth hangs open a little and he does some quick mental calculations. "So could you, say, take this Peashooter and have it upgraded to WP:7 for only 213 gold?"

"Or have a gem merged with the Fireball for only 43 gold?"

"Don't worry about it," Kiray shrugged. "We're all bound to miss things every now and then."

Still, were you interested in either of them?

"Which are you willing to part with? I can give you the shield I bought and you can sell that to keep for yourself. Is there anything else you would want?"

"How have you been of recent?" I query.

"Eh, not much......." Mizuki said as she walked towards the monk and his companions. "I mostly did small jobs. Stuff like escorting goods for the Shadeaux and going off to Laticum to help a revolution. More recently, I went to Loush.......and well, it's changed a lot since we last went there. Anyway, just came back from a job for the Bonapartes. Had to take down a massive sea beast. Took a toungue from the corpse as a memento." Mizuki looked at the monk, before pulling out a small dice. "Found this in Loush, had to spend a ton of gold, for this interesting thing. I don't know but I just feel luckier when I hold it."

"Thanks- I'll take you up on that next time I'm visiting the marketplace. I remember Sofia was involved with the Crimson Crown, but I never found out what it was they wanted. Are they just a bunch of crazies?"

"I see you've grown a tail." Erik says to Mizuki.

"Are you from Zylstra? Can't say I've seen you before."

"Zylstra? Can't say I know where that is. I'm from Drandora, in the Low Kingdoms. My name is Matthias." The gnome extends a hand. "Well met, Master ...?"

As the gnome extends his hand to the hero in front of him, movement near the door catches the corner of his eye and he watches Dreyrugr saunter in. More mental calculations ensue; Matthias makes a note of where the Black Knight sits.

"You spent a ton of gold on a dice? Well, I don't think luck is really anything more than what you think it is, but..." I shrug.

"I don't really know. The ones I encountered seemed more reasonable than Sofia and her cronies, that's for sure. They kept excusing her actions though. I hate the Crimson Crown...really, I do, but perhaps they're confused amongst themselves about what's right and wrong."

"Zylstra? Can't say I know where that is. I'm from Drandora, in the Low Kingdoms. My name is Matthias." The gnome extends a hand. "Well met, Master ...?"

"Pretzel...Monk Pretzel. If you want me to upgrade your cannon for you then just let me know."

Dreyrugr comes back into the hall after a long walk. Not finding any quests on the board he takes a seat in the corner.

I glance up to see a face I haven't seen in a while. "Oh, God!" I mutter inaudibly.

Nerwen shrugs,

I'd part with either or both, they don't have sentimental value to me. The orc one you could have for eighty or the fire lizard one for sixty. Your shield is only worth twenty five if traded back to Anwyl and it makes little difference whether it's you or me that does it.

"I'd very much appreciate it if you could get this Amythest and Topaz imbued into the Extraordinaire," Matthias responds, handing Pretzel the items and 85 gold. Noting the artisan's look in Dreyrugr's direction, the gnome wisely doesn't mention his acquaintance with the vampire. "Peace to you, Master Monk," he says, and excuses himself with a nod.

Picking up two tankards of ale from a line Scheherazade had poured on the bar - the matron apparently come and gone already since he and Bucks lamented her absence - Matthias makes his way to the corner seats where the black knight sits. The gnome sets both steins on a chair, climbs into it, then moves the steins to the table. Setting one ale in front of Dreyrugr, he gets right to business. "Master Dreyrugr, on our travel through the High Kingdoms you loaned me a particular armor, a Hunter's Plate. I was wondering if I might be able to buy it from you now, or if you would loan it to me perhaps?"

Dreyrugr chuckled to himself not letting the monk's reaction slip by him. Dreyrugr was mostly annoyed at people's over the top reactions at his vampirism but Pretzel's utter disdain was rather amusing to him.

"I'd rather you not call me 'master' if you would Matthias, I have an unpleasant history with that term." Dreyrugr dryly said whilst picking up the ale the Gnome had brought to him. Mulling things over in his mind Dreyrugr pondered for a moment before speaking up in a more conversational tone.

"The Hunter's Plate is a rather nice piece of armour and quite honestly I'd rather not part with it for good, but I'd loan it to you again for...50 gold or so."

Dreyrugr looked up and down the Gnome noticing he'd gotten a tad better and reminisced for a moment as he started drinking the ale. "You seem stronger, that cannon doing good for you?"

Matthias takes a sip of his ale, straightening his shoulders as the vampire remarks on his more experienced appearance. "Yes, the Fireball is extraordinary, though I haven't used it recently - Doctor Tesla of the Tritech Corporation was restoring it for me and I just got it back," he says as he counts out 50 gold onto the table. "When do you think you'll be wanting this armor back?" he asks, taking another sip of ale.

"Well, you can sell the shield then and I'll give you 55 gold for the rest for the orc shield. I'm bound to come across a gem or scroll on my next quest, and I'd rather not have to spend tons of money to build up a shield. How does that sound?" Kiray holds out her shield and 55 gold to Nerwen.

Nerwen takes the 55g and shield from Kiray and passes her the orcish barbed shield. For a moment, the incongruity of the dull metal plate in contrast to her shimmering sheer dress makes her smile.

Agreed. Us girls gotta stick together, help each other out. Nerwen says, winking at the young knight.

Matthias accepts the upgraded Extraordinaire from Pretzel, bowing his head to the artisan. "Thanks," he says simply, not wanting to delay Pretzel too near the vampire because of the obvious dislike between them.

"Maybe after a quest or two, whenever we see each other next will be fine."

Returning to the hall, I hand the gem-imbued hand cannon back to Matthais, casting another woeful glance in Dreyrugr's direction.

Dreyrugr once again seeing Pretzel's unhappy demeanor lets a small smile creep across his face.
