Heroica RPG - Heroica Hall

Benji is silent for a long while. "Yes, this is my destiny."

He pulls out Blitze's Modified Remedy, and a Level-Up Mushroom.

"Cheers." He grimly states as he chews on the mushroom and pours the remedy down his throat. He sits quietly for a couple seconds before falling onto the floor screaming.

His eyes cloud over and his body tenses.

After being out of it for a few minutes, he comes to. Getting up from the floor, he groggily sits back in his chair. "Uhhh..."

"Schnappi! A face I recognise. Have I missed much since the last time I came to the hall?" Tesni grinned, the reptillian beast warrior had possibly been questing more than Jess.

^{(A note. In a quest together Tesni called Beniji "Schnappi" and "Handbag" more than once.)}

Karl rubbed his chin in thought. He realised that more than a bit of stubble had grown since he'd last "shaved". He looked from Keliim to the quest board and back. "How about we team up for this Field of Glory thing? I saw a few other people teaming up, and each of them along looked like they could have taken on a dragon and won. I somehow think that surviving the Fields would be more likely with two rather than one. What'cha say?"

[Lind Whisperer]

I am Keliim, Keliim the cruel, what is there to do in this place?

"Mostly, just breaking the fourth wall."

Benji looks at Tesni. "Uh.... do I know you? Sorry I just went through a stroke, or something like that."

As he takes a swig of his drink, he looks at her again. "Ah! Tes! It's been a long time. Yeah, well, been traveling a bit, out to the High Kingdoms in a part of a massive battle, was at an island at the far side of the map in a mission against an evil magician who wanted to murder the inhabitants of the islands. Then I stayed here in Eubric and tracked down a murderous creature, which we then proceeded to kill it, only for it to be an little girl... I've been through a lot Tes. I think I'm going crazy. I just saw a vision, or prophecy of sorts. I think it might have something to do with this modified remedy that I acquired, that was supposed to heal me of my lycanthropy... oh did I mention that?" Benji slumps back into his chair.

Hmm , Keliim thinks, why not. And response back to Karl, sounds like a good plan to team up.

But first I need a drink, a bath and a new set of cloths, 2 years of outside climate has done its course.

Turns to the board: I will sign up to Fields of glory and team up with Karl.

"Well, uh, I'll let you get back to that then..." Tesni waved over a server and picked a large bottle of gutrot to deposit by Benji, he'd surely appreciate it at some point.

[Flare]

"Bah!" Benji slams the bottle that Tesni passed to him on the table. "I'll talk to Copper Fox about this."

Karl grinned, spitting into his hand and holding it out for Keliim to shake. "Heh, I got used to it. I had to." His expression darkened slightly, then perked up as he remembered. "Actually, the drinks here are free, so... Might go grab us a couple." He eyed the bar calculatingly.

[Lind Whisperer]

"Would you two like to enter The Fields of Glory as a group?" he said, waiting for their reply.

"Or if you prefer, perhaps we could merge with Grey Foxer, Actaeon, and Kiray, as party of 6. It would probably make things more interesting, and may increase our chances to be chosen, instead of vying with them over a party slot."

"Seems like there are more than six of us. I would be more than happy to join your group if there is one, and if you don't mind." says Purpearl.

"I believe, in the long stream of conversation that is flowing past, the barbarian I was speaking to quite reasonably missed hearing my request.

If the three of yourselves are interested in joining my group, you are not only extremely welcome, but I am quite certain the forces that control the Fields would find our group well balanced(whereas the barbarian was so skilled that she might have been considered unbalancing compared to our own skills at the moment)."

"'The Grey Foxer'? Who calls themself that?"

Lind scowled slightly.

"I presume, if you have not heard of me, that you will have heard of the master thief Arsene Lupine? You will not hear of him anymore." The rogue pulled his Darker Ethereal Deck out of his pocket, and gently felt the sharpened edges. "It was with these that he fell. And with his fall, I took his name...His strength...The fear that he created."

"And what's a 'Munchkin'? And are we signing up in groups now?"

"The Munchkins are the tribe of master strategist humans that disappeared into the Forests of the Blue Pools but ten score of years ago."

Boris gazed at the screaming elf rolling about on the floor. He considered a brief excorism for a moment, but before he could move the elf stood upright and grew quiet. Boris shrugged and swigged down his ale before turning to Karl and Keliim.

"What's this about a field? You mean old Farmer Mack Donauld?"

"Thanks, Grey Foxer," Kiray nodded, seeing the party she was hopefully to be a part of. She saw the new rogue who came in, chuckling when she overheard him remember the "price" of drinks.

Karl turned to the vampire. "The name rings a bell..." His eye caught the notice board again, and the name it was under. "Ah. Yes. Farmer Donauld, that's it. Why?" His eyes narrowed in suspicion.

"65 Seconds..." Boris takes another drink, "I was called out there a few months back, something about performing an exorcism on some poultry. He in some sort of trouble again?"

One minute.... One minute until...? What? Karl was torn between dual instincts of curiosity and self-preservation. Curiosity won, so he decided not to leg it to the nearest bomb disposal squad, and instead wait around to see what happened. "Umm, yeah, I think so. I didn't read the article through properly," he said, immediately resolving to do so as soon as the opportunity presented itself. "but I think the notice said something about swarms of monsters, so... Wait, did you say exorcism on poultry?!?"

"Sounds like Mack alright, never could stick to just simple goats and cows. Yes, chickens to be specific." Boris munched down on a biscuit at the bar. "Thinking about going over there?"

"Already signed up. Me and Keliim here, that is." He nodded towards his newfound questing partner. "Any tips for surviving? I've never actually been out in the field, if you'll excuse the pun."

"Don't die. Pretty simple, if I know Mack he'll probably have bitten off more than he could chew. Would surprise me if he had problems big enough to eat you and your friend here whole. Still, if you need a guide..."

"Any tips for surviving? I've never actually been out in the field, if you'll excuse the pun."

"At the heart of strategy, everything mostly boils down to putting your heavy hitters and those with good armor in the front row, and the healers in the back row. Try to crowd control the little monsters that will mob rush you. Heal up whenever the next round is going to leave you KO'd. There was once a good song about order...how did it go?

Karl jerked his shoulders into a shrug again. "Two's company, three's a crowd. Maybe we need a crowd to really lay into these monsters or whatever we're gonna be facing. Any suggestions? I'm not the best at hero-finding..."

"You could tack a sheet onto the board for your own team, see if there are any other beginning questers. But, I do have to warn you - the Fields are typically meant for heroes with several quests under their belt. That doesn't mean you shouldn't try and dazzle us all, but yes, you'll definitely need a crowd or two to do much of anything."

"That's the problem with the Fields - no hidden rooms, no traps. It's KO, or be KO'd, at its simplest."

"Sounds like a party..." Not entirely looking forward to the coming adventure, he sought solace in the thought that there would be some people who could cover his back this time. If they didn't stab it first.

"You could tack a sheet onto the board for your own team, see if there are any other beginning questers. But, I do have to warn you - the Fields are typically meant for heroes with several quests under their belt. That doesn't mean you shouldn't try and dazzle us all, but yes, you'll definitely need a crowd or two to do much of anything."

Nodding his thanks, Karl bobbed over to the notice board and scribbled out a message

Well, he's cartainly got combat experience, for one thing... "Good to have you with us, Mr...?"
