Alexis slaps Althior. "And you need to watch your mouth."

"Whatever names you are called you've earned yourself," he says, coldly "Or were you too busy hopping from bed to bed to realize that? Honor-less Thief... You don't see the irony in that?"

Arthur drops the remains of his devoured drumsticks and immediately puts on his face - covering helmet. He awkwardly searches for something to say. "Erm...ah..."

Althior glares at the Dragoon. "Surely you've got something to say too, Regulus. After all this time, I thought you knew how to speak up, especially after what you've been through,"

He turns to the Berserker "Oh Miss Hightribe. Trust me when I say it gets old after a while. Hell, I wouldn't be here except for..." He trails off, being careful not to mention his promise made at the tower. He pulls up a seat at the table for the first time. "What have you been doing all this time? Got sick of the whole business?"

Annienal makes her way back into the hall noticing the commotion at the quest board. She takes a seat, not interested in what either of the houses have to offer.

"After the Northern Kingdoms I needed a rest. I have been hacking my way through enemies and facing ever more political situations since I first trod through that door. I met an enemy so like who I could become and failed to send her on her path... Things had been so much simpler when I was splitting wolves and fighting rats. So I took to the mountains to refresh myself and live the life I had before for a while. I sent word out to the old tribe-hills too, I am looking for some news of my people."

Bobby sips his coffee at the bar. A strange fellow, a mage, sits down and orders himself cookies. "Right on, dude. I'm gonna have to snag one of those when they get here," says Bobby with a smile, and then offers his hand. "Bobby Bucks Jr. How's it going?'

"I couldn't agree more. Long ago are the days of emptying caves of specters and saving lost children. I've had 'success' on my last few quests in that I was rewarded handsomely for my work, but none of them satisfied me in the slightest. I only stick around for a few loose ends that need tying up, and it seems you are in the same vein. The longer you stick in this profession, the more straining it becomes with each quest. I envy those who can get out cleanly like Tarn and Haldor."

Warlen shakes the newcomers hand warmly.

"Warlen Melimane, Half-Elf. Yeah, this place has the third best cookies I've ever tasted."

He grinned.

"Genuine pleasure to meet you, my man. I gotta bit of a sweet tooth, so I am ready to chow on some cookies."

"How have those two fared? I heard little of what they are doing now though I saw Jess just as I returned, she too had been away." Tesni took a plate of food from a passing serving trolley and called out for more ale. "I have plans to work a little harder and once word comes from home, return to help the old ways survive. I was trained to replace the priestess after all but I thought the heroing call to be more worthy..." Tesni chuckled. "Our traditions are a whole lot less god-bothering than they are down here that is for sure. I think to have a former Heroica hero calling the shots in the Temple of the Mountain's Strength would sell the myth a bit more."

"No one asked for your opinion; so keep it to yourself."

"What, like you opinion on our honor-less thief here?" He rolls his eyes, shifting his attention to the Berserker once more.

"Last I heard they'd both sailed north. Regulus was one of the last people to see Tarn. Each of them had some higher calling I thought. Just didn't have the heart in them to finish what they had started." He lets out a little laugh. "Heroing more worthy? Please, no one comes her because they're worthy or looking for a way to help out. People come here to make quick money every now and then. I came here as a cocky mage with no idea of how the world work. If I had been the man I was today, I'd have stayed clear of this damned isle. Now I've gotten myself tangled in strings. Once those strings are cut, I'm going to be out of here as fast as I can. Head back west and maybe do something for myself for once. Do I know when that is? Not at all. Hell, it could be half a century before I get out, but I'm not leaving until the job is done, unlike Haldor and Tarn." He pauses his regret-fueled rant. "Seems like you've got a perfectly good exit strategy planned out, though, Miss Hightribe. I can't say I don't envy you for it..."

Althior's dismissive stance on Heroica's nature caught the attention of one particularly annoyed orc down the bar.

"You obviously have no idea what you're talking about," scoffed Miderun. "I didn't come here for glory or money, and I really doubt I'm the only one. And the real hero you're referring to, Staaldalkuaio Haldor, stayed in Baltarok purely to help finish what he started in helping rebuild our homeland."

Althior glares at the Dragoon. "Surely you've got something to say too, Regulus. After all this time, I thought you knew how to speak up, especially after what you've been through,"

The light in Arthur's eyes goes cold. "You have no idea what I've been through. Neither of you...though maybe Alexis could guess." Miirym stares in open surprise at Arthur's outburst, the slightest glimmer of respect in her eyes. A little of the usual warmth returns to Arthur's gaze, albeit in a somewhat fiery smolder. "But I can't really blame you for not knowing what I try not to talk about anyway." Arthur shoots a quick glance at Tesni, hoping she'd pick up on the hint.

"No one asked for your opinion; so keep it to yourself."

"What, like you opinion on our honor-less thief here?" He rolls his eyes, shifting his attention to the Berserker once more.

Arthur sighs. Sometimes I wonder why I ever associated myself with either of these two. A particular memory flashes into his mind, and beneath his helmet he grins. Okay, that explains one of them, he jokes to himself, before the memory of a different night with Alexis comes to mind. Pushing down the familiar sensations of shame, he addresses Alexis seriously.

"Look," he says somberly, "Alexis. It's been almost two years. Two years. I accidentally hurt you horribly, and I am truly sorry for that. Believe me, it was the last thing I wanted to do. But I did, and there's nothing I can do to change that. I loved...heh. 'Loved.' I loved you, but I've moved on with my life. I get the impression that this grudge you're carrying around is hurting you way more than it hurts me--maybe you ought to move on, too." Arthur shoots a look at Althior. "That goes for you, too, you know."

"Tarn went to Dastan to be with Ella," Arthur responds. "He left because of his heart, not a lack of it. In fact, he was pretty damn happy about doing so. Hel, he probably has a family by now." And speaking of family... "Either way, it's not really my business to judge. He followed his arrow path. That's all there is to say." Arthur wipes his hands with an old rag, then picks up his gear and rises. "On that note, I have some family business of my own to take care of. Tensi, it was lovely talking to you. Alexis..." Arthur shrugs, at a loss for words. "I hope you find what makes you happy," he finally manages. "Miiryim!" The little dragon stares at him, momentarily contemplating defiance, before deciding that antagonism was not worth the effort. She affectionately nips Tesni's hand, then takes wing after Arthur, the pair soon vanishing through the Hall's great doors.

---------------

Arthur slowly, hesitantly walks up the steps to Number 14, Heron Street. He raises a fist to the door, then pauses. Should I? He lowers his hand, strokes his chin, then swiftly removes his helmet, exchanging it for the Pointy Hat he had received nearly a year ago, now dyed blue and embroidered with stars to match the hat he'd first worn when he came to the city, that particular piece of headwear now little more than a tattered rag buried beneath the bulk of junk at the bottom of his bag. After one last moment's hesitation, and a glance at the unusually-compliant Miirym sitting on his shoulder, he raises his fist once more.

*Knock knock knock*

Tesni grinned and the little dragon and watched it fly away after her 'person' then turned to the necromancer

"I am glad those who I once fought alongside have found their path leading them to something they can feel well with, maybe even find joy. Worthiness though, I would not say I though being a hero was a greater calling than serving a temple above a lost tribe-home. I needed the change of place and pace. I spent years living with the loss of my people and then the priestess died. She was the last of them, I thought." The maudalin changed to a small smile. "Word has some of the other sons and daughters who heard a calling elsewhere are returning to the mountains. My tribe becomes once more."

However, Tesni paused thoughtfully. "I do not think heroing like this is more worthy on a world sense, just personally. I have been further than I ever expected and learned more than I would have atop a mountain." She shifted in her seat. "I have a clearer view of my path now, one that had been clouded and murky is laid out for quite a while now. I can't say I chose it though. After all, does the walker choose the path or the path the walker?"

As the cookies and wine arrived, and the pair began to eat, Warlen asked a question.

"So, Bobby, where are you from?"

"Yo man, I'm from right outside the hovels. Don't know why I make that distinction though. You know, like, where'd they even build that wall anyway? Who decided that, know what I'm saying?" Bobby shrugs and munches on a cookie. "Crazy, dude. Where are you from?"

Warlen put on a despairing face. "Mine is a tale of loss, and woe."

His face switched back to normal. "Well, I never met my Mother and Father.

Seeing as how I'm a half elf, I never got to meet mum. As for dad, he died in the second quest of... no, Battle of the final tower.

Long story short, my dad was a powerful general, and his dying wish was that I should become an Archmage. After much deliberation, I went to live with the Elven Mages. Before I could finish training, along came my friend Quarion, long travels, lotsa fun, and now? Here in Heroica, plenty of new friends."

"So, Bobby, any long term plans with Heroica? My end goal is to become a Prophet, but I have several goals till then: Evoker, better equipment, finding one of every gem, becoming Archmage, you know, the usual. You?"

"Ah man, I'm just going with the flow. I want to help dudes, you know, but that's about all I got right now. Sorry 'bout your dad though, bro. That's rough."

"Tell me again, who was it trying to get me into bed the other night?"

"Who knows. I chose the path of the mage, but the path of the necromancer chose me. Some people look towards a god as a higher being. Me, I'm not sure I believe that anymore. I still think there's some sort of a higher power letting things play out and setting us on our paths, whether we do so willingly or not."

CURRENT SIGN-UPS:

Althior once again bolds his name under Quest #125, making sure it is clear that he would prefer to help the Ziegfrieds once again.
