The Chosen Minifigure Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 You left your floating head, asleep at a bar? Warlen grins at the absurdity of the sentence. "Yeah. Admittedly, he wasn't mine as such." Quote
Asphalt Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 You left someone else's floating head in a bar? Quote
The Chosen Minifigure Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 "I left a floating head in a bar. A living, flaming, floating head." Quote
Yzalirk Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 Mhinak listens to the conversation about the floating head and raises his left eyebrow. "That's insane, laddie! When you said 'he', I assume you were talking about the head so what was 'his' name, if you don't mind me asking. And how do you know the head was a 'he'?" Quote
The Chosen Minifigure Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 "His name was Quarion. I know he was a he because I met him when he was a whole body, not just a skull." Quote
Yzalirk Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 "Is Quarion a friend? And exactly how does his skull float around?" Quote
The Chosen Minifigure Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 "Yes, a very old friend. I don't mean he's old, I mean we've been friends for ages. I'm not sure how he floats. I do know it's magic, though." Quote
Comrade Commander Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 With his name selected for the musical quest, Darksten gathers his belongings and makes his way out of the hall. Quote
Yzalirk Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 Mhinak frowns but begins to shrug it off while he talks. "Well it's good to still have a friend with you, a close one that is. When I used to live back in Nalkahm as a young inventor, I did have some friends that were kind of close until everything changed. But that is a story I do not like to tell, sorry. Anyways, I'm not very fond of the use of magic since I'm a Dwarf and we usually aren't supporters for it. Care to shed any light on it?" Quote
The Chosen Minifigure Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 "Sure. What would you like to know?" Quote
Yzalirk Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 "Exactly how does it work? I know how a Crossbow and a Hand Cannon but when it comes to using different elements of nature, how can a staff do that? I've read old books about enchanted weaponry so I'm guessing it's the same thing? Please, correct me if I'm wrong laddie." Quote
The Chosen Minifigure Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 (edited) "It's... complicated. There are some things that I'm not allowed to reveal, but I'll do my best. Imagine that in the place of the air, there was a mass of wibbly wobbly stuff. It comes in blobs, and patches, but fills everything. This stuff is called ether. Now, because of all the blobs and bits of it, there are fault lines in it. With proper training, you can begin to manipulate it. It is necessary to have a gem, which from being underground for so long away from light develops certain properties that can be used to manipulate the fault lines. Although it is possible with proper training to channel it through the gem alone, most will also need a staff, wand, or other weapon. Basically, the gem releases a burst of energy, which hits the nearest weapon, and the weapon launches it along the fault lines in the direction of the necessary target. It's much more complicated, but that's the gist of it. Any questions?" Edited January 15, 2015 by The Chosen Minifigure Quote
Yzalirk Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 "No, nothing else laddie. That's very interesting yet very complicated. Right now it's kind of hard to describe the way I feel about magic but I do find the subject interesting. Perhaps magic is too complicated for Dwarves like myself since we've never had any use for it. Well as long as it protects you, than you're set. I'll just stick to Crossbows and Hand Cannons because they are simple. Swords are simple too but they are no fun." Quote
The Chosen Minifigure Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 "Well, you can combine gems with weapons to automatically use magic. The process is complicated, but I can explain it if you like...?" Quote
samurai-turtle Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 My first problem will be the research to meld the will and flesh to the machine. It would be all to easy to simply craft an arm, but if it has no function I might as well nail a club to my shoulder. I believe the answer lies with automata. It will take both magic and mechanics to make this a reality. I do not think I quite explain that right. It would be more like more like you have your "robot arm" (or whatever you called it) and the shield would just pop out of the arm. It might just be easier for me to draw a picture of what I have in mind. "Ahh, yes. About that." Warlen looks around nervously. "See, on my last quest, we had to visit a bar. And he fell asleep. And I didn't notice he wasn't there until we arrived at our next destination. And so, he has a new "Home" now." That brings up more questions. Like you have not went back to check up on him? Now, that it seem like you have some free time. Second, maybe I should just get him my self. And, see if he wants to hang out with me for a while. Or, he might just want to hang out here in the "Hall" with his other friends. Quote
Asphalt Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 (edited) You meaning was clear Master Germ. But the probelm remains. If I cannot control the limb with my will, then it is useless to me. I hope to find the answers I seek in the library. Edited January 16, 2015 by Asphalt Quote
Yzalirk Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 "No need to further explain it, Elf, I can always research what I wish to know. Speaking of which, I never caught any of your names and it was rude of me to not introduce myself so I guess it's better late than never. The name's Mhinak, skilled Dwarven tinkerer and researcher. I joined up to help people in need when others will not. If you hadn't noticed this baby here, well now you do. I haven't named her since well, she's not of my creation. I like to call these Hand Cannons because well, it's like a cannon fit in a compact size for your hand. It's small but definitely packs a punch. I know she ain't a beaut but she gets the job done." Mhinak smiles and lifts up his "Dinky" Hand Cannon revealing it to anyone near him. Quote
samurai-turtle Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 If I cannot control the limb with my will, then it is useless to me. I hope to find the answers I seek in the library. OH, that is your problem. The solution is simple (to me any ways). All you have to do is hook up sensors to your nerves and you should be able to control the arm with your mind. It would require a surgery and hope they hook up to the right nerves. Or, if Quarion was around he might be able tell you how to control the "arm" with out the surgery. Noticing Mhinak and said: They call me "The Demon Germ" or if you want just "Germ". I saw a gnome with a bigger hand-cannon around here. I do not know how he controls the big thing in combatant. Massaging her forehead, "Ëven this... perhaps a visit to the Ziegfrieds would be kind, there's no harm getting to know more about the family, by helping them." Quote
