Jebediahs Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 Nur could not hide the shock on his face due to Hybros' reveal. Fascinating...Nur had heard of powerful mages successfully making pacts with demons to serve common interests. Perhaps I can make a deal with this Hybros... "Aye, he is a golem although a special one as he has a mind of his own. Which means he stays with me because he chooses to...as a friend." Nur looks at the dwarf a moment to show that he acknowledges his presence at the table. "Tell us what transpired with your golem encounter, Hybros." Nur was interested in learning what he could about the spell animating the golems of the impending story. Quote
JimBee Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 "Mm, choice. It is something that golems that I encountered had without realizing it. Perhaps your friend here is lucky that he does, if you speak the truth, eheh." Hybros shifted again, making himself more comfortable in his chair before continuing. "It was in a small town called Towr in northern Uland. We were hired to help because it seemed that the town was overrun by golems, an experiment gone wrong. I think the townspeople wanted a loyal guard army, but it went wrong when they tried to give them free will and then hide from them certain facts about the town. Something about how mages and alchemists do not like each other, I am not clear on the details, heh. The spell backfired, and all of the golems now mistook the townspeople as golems, and believed themselves to be the real versions. You see, to create the golems a part of each townsperson was taken and manifested in the golem bodies. They were like mirror images of their real selves." "Ehehm, the short story is that the golems turned against the real counterparts and a lot of the citizens died... we, erm, did not get there in time to stop it..." Hybros seemed to become uncomfortable, omitting the part about the heroes' own golem counterparts that had caused so much damage. "I... have my doubts about whether these creatures can be controlled or given free will, but erm, time will tell I guess... My experience with... unnatural creation has been extensive and dangerous, eheh. There was a quest a while ago with a device that somehow created copies of long-dead Moon Elves..." "Er, under what events did you find that one?" Quote
Jebediahs Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 "A part of each person was taken to create the golems?" Flesh golems? "Disgusting. That sounds like necromancy to me. The golems I became familiar with were simple sculptures formed of earth and stone, animated by an accomplished geomancer I met in The Darklands. They were able to follow tasks of various complexity and did so without hesitation once commanded by their master. I do not understand the magic behind it but my companion was granted a mild form of free thinking to simulate intelligence in order for him to give the lesser golems daily instructions. The use of living components seems to have given your golems true life and made them, unpredictable." Quote
JimBee Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 Hybros shrugged. "It obviously was not a good idea. I would be careful with him, especially with all of these insane alchemists and wizards around, he could end up like one of the flesh golems in Towr, heheheh..." Quote
Jebediahs Posted February 20, 2015 Posted February 20, 2015 "I admit that I am quite oblivious to large issues whose focus are not directly on me. Tell me, does this feud between the alchemists and magic wielders extend here to Eubric? I do not even know any alchemists other than the lady from whom I purchase my tonics." Quote
JimBee Posted February 20, 2015 Posted February 20, 2015 "Erm, I do not think the Guild of Invision and the Ziegfrieds are very fond of each other, eheh... perhaps because they use different kinds of magic, but I am not sure. I have only recently trained with the Guild and read a little from the Library. Do you hate alchemy or other forms of magic besides the ether you wield?" Quote
Jebediahs Posted February 21, 2015 Posted February 21, 2015 "I have no quarrel with those who employ other forms of magic and welcome spell types different from my own. I even admire the type used to animate those despicable townspeople copies you mentioned, although to a lesser degree. I am not always guaranteed a chance to replenish my ether reserves so I appreciate a good tonic." Nur leaned in a little closer but not so far as to be overly creepy. "So you are a member of the Guild of Invision? One should not judge another by their appearance alone but you look more like an accomplished warrior than a potion maker. I suppose your guild requires strong arms to protect its secrets." Quote
JimBee Posted February 21, 2015 Posted February 21, 2015 "A member, well, no, but I am in their good graces, as it were, eheh. I and another hero finished learning their ways recently, but I have yet to test these skills in battle." Hybros ordered a tea and turned back to Nur. "I am many things, and I used ethereal power not long ago, as my people once did - ehem, do. Like you, we specialize in manipulating the earth, as well as plants and trees. I am also a skilled Assassin, but I have long since hung up the cloaks of other assassins from which I procured them from, heheheh..." Quote
Jebediahs Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 "Hmmmm. How do your people feel about interracting with outsiders? I would like to visit them...and perhaps they would share their methods of moving earth." Quote
JimBee Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 "Erm, probably not too well. They have... just experienced recovery from dark times. Perhaps another time in the future, eheh." Hybros takes a long sip of his tea, looking to the bottom of the cup to avoid Nur's eye. "Where is it that you are from?" Quote
Jebediahs Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 "From here and there. My family moved us from village to village quite often. I have not one town or city I call home. A child of the road I suppose. It is a reason I am now so curious about your people as I have been everywhere yet never have come across one such as you. Similar, but not quite the same. Are ye a demon offshoot?" Quote
JimBee Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 "Heh! You could say that. But really my people are from Olegaia, and were here before many. Until recently there was only me, but my people have returned to Olegaia. Few know my people today, and most records of us have been lost to time..." Hybros became a little uneasy, shifting uncomfortably. He wondered if he should be revealing this information to a stranger. Quote
Enceladus Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 As the heroes in the hall talked about golems and imps and far off places of great promise and importance, it was easy not to notice a new hero slip quietly into the hall. Dressed all in black from his wide brimmed hat down to his robes his very appearance gave nothing away. Every footstep was softly laid down, some would say daintily, and he moved with a simple, elagent grace that suggested he had all the time in the world, every step accompanied by a rythmic tap-tap of his staff on the floor ahead of him. His eyes roamed lazily over the many denizens of the hall before he cast his eyes over the questboard. if he was dissapionted no quests were avaliable he did not show it, merely shrugging his shoulders and finding a quiet corner of the hall in which to sit down and wait Quote

I can understand how a family reunion could be fulfilling yet now, you are no longer unique." Quote
JimBee Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 "Does the return of your people bring joy to you? I can understand how a family reunion could be fulfilling yet now, you are no longer unique." "Hm, it is not a matter of being unique. My feelings are... mixed. My people do not understand what the world has become since they were gone. So much has changed, it seems. They do not know this land like I do. But it has been only goal for entire life to find them, and now that I have, I still feel that I have something to fulfill. I was drawn to this city for its many secrets and extensive history, and I have found many answers here... Yet, I think I was drawn here for another reason. Do you feel this way, Nur? What is your purpose here?" Quote
Emjajoas Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 Mortimer quietly enters the hall with a shuffling step, his shoulders slouched. He was obviously weary. As he makes his way towards a small table in the corner, the heroes can't help but notice that he keeps glancing to his left, his head turning with every step-- no doubt due to the bandages that covered his left eye. He lowers himself onto a chair, making a point to seat himself so that most patrons would have to approach from his right side. He didn't want to be alone with his thoughts. Hopefully a good quest would come along soon-- he could use a distraction. Quote

What is your purpose here?" "Oh me? My father sought to capitalize on my newfound abilities once he learned his son had an aptitude for magic." Nur looks down and to the right. "He...exploited my skill at the expense of others. I never knew my mother but I like to imagine she would prefer me to be here helping others. She was a druidic dwarf or half dwarf I could never get a straight answer from my father which might explain my affinity for the earth." En Sabah Nur slaps boths hands on the table to snap himself out of the looming pity party and once again separates himself from his emotions. "So! To honor my imaginary mother I do good." Nur smiles briefly as his hands move under the table. His fingers take on a life of their own as the mage mumbles a phrase under his breath. "How long do your people live? As long as elves?!" Quote
JimBee Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 "Hmm..." Hybros nodded as he listened to Nur. "I am also a traveler, like you. For a half-century I roamed the High and Low Kingdoms and their surrounding lands before coming here. So I think you could say that we live longer than that amount of time, eheh... although I am not sure. My people have been through some... special circumstances. Maybe even they do not know, but we are similar in stature to gnomes, and they only live up to 40 years." He took another long sip from his tea, this time gazing at Nur over the rim with his crimson eyes. He put the cup down and noticed Em enter the Hall. He nodded to his former questmate. He would have some stories to exchange with the Warden. Quote
Emjajoas Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 Mortimer noticed the imp nodding in his direction. He pulled his lips into a small smile and raised a hand in return, waving at his friend. Quote
JimBee Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 Hybros signaled 'Em' over. He explained to Nur, "He is a strong-willed hero. I was with him when we ventured below Eubric to find Moon Elf ruins." Quote
Emjajoas Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 Mortimer rises, glancing to his left as he made his way over to his fellow Heroes' table. "Hello, Hybros," he nods, turning to the imp's companion. "We haven't met. I'm Em." The Warden seats himself so that he can face both heroes with his good eye. "Questing treating you both well, I hope?" Quote
JimBee Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 "Well enough, eheh. I have had some quests of my own as well. It seems you have seen better days... heheheheh." Hybros grinned, but then looked away in embarrassment of his pun. "Ehem, how are you, Em?" He looked around the table. It seemed that the dwarf from earlier must have slipped away during his and Nur's conversation. Quote
Emjajoas Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 Em snorts a little, smiling slightly at the joke. "As you said, I've, ha, seen better days. I suppose I'm just... tired, though. Eager to quest again." He sombers up a little, glancing between the two heroes. "Are you... familiar with the hero Erdathcath? ...She was killed." Quote
Zepher Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 Boomingham shambles into the Hall. The ship ride had been long, and his stomach was hardly able to handle the sea under normal conditions. He trudges over to Em, Hybros, and Nur. "All my favorite chaps." He collapses into a chair. "Who'll have a drink with their favorite old goat?" Quote
Emjajoas Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 Mortimer nods to Boomingham, flashing another small, sad smile. "Gods know we've earned one, my friend," he mutters. "You holding up?" Quote
