"That's not necromancy - that's just being a serial killer."

He chuckles. "I believe I said something along those lines myself."

Kaire... I knowyou're aWitch right now. Ever contemplated Necromancy?"

"What? Oh, yeah, I guess. Not particularly sure it's where I want to go with my already illustrious career, but I've thought about it."

"Heroica having to kill psychos. What else is new."

"I'll come clean here - I haven't done any raising the dead or communicating with ghosts since I first got the training. Part of me worries it's not going to be pleasant for an undead to control other undead, but Althior is in one piece, so..."

I cough.

"Y'know, another hero said she saw you pregnant. Did she have you mixed up with someone else? You're very clearly not..."

"Nothing 'thespian' enough for you? Judging on what I just saw in the fields, Witch seems to be suiting you just fine for now,"

"We have more psychos than we do have to kill them,"

"Glad I can provide an oh-so wonderful example for you, Sorrow. You'll get the hang of it, trust me.

"Sure you've still got some of that blood in you? You're looking a bit non-corporeal to me,"

"Oh, so you heard." Karie replies. "Yeah, well, I'll have you know I did have the baby. She's alright with Masson right now. We debated on what to call the baby, but in the end we decided to go with Rachelle.

I've been through a lot of pain in this line of work... but I am never having another child." Karie remarks, shaking her head.

"Oh, no, I enjoy being a Witch, and there is something thespian enough for me, it's just Dyric Rone, Assassin of the Idiots screwed me over and now I'm stuck having to go off and fight dragons in order to get in the good graces with the Hinckwells again." Karie responds, clearly annoyed.

"There's enough psychos in the hall as is. Speaking of, I met a demon worshipping, human sacrificing cleric a few months back in here. She's a "hero" here, too. Her name is Calamity."

"Dyric.... I think I know him. It was a while ago when we quested together; long before either of you were around. Trust me, I know what it's like to get stabbed in the back by your party,

"I'm guessing the three of us help make up that group of psychos," he grins. "I remember her. She had a large fixation with me due to my 'dark power' she said," It's nice when people notice, he thought.

"That's great! You have a full plate now, huh - house, job, husband, daughter. You're not going on maternity leave or anything like that, to spend time with her?

And hey, could've been worse. Could've been twins."

Karie crosses her arms, looking sternly at Althior. "I still think this is an issue that should be dealt with. With the Regret dead, I'm moving my attention to getting rid of Patricia and Ulric, but that doesn't mean I don't care about this demon issue. I'd prefer if we didn't have demon worshipping cultists in this hall."

I smile.

"Um, well, yeah, about money..." Karie laughs awkwardly. "We're a little low on that, what with Masson taking a leave of absence. Someone's got to be out making the coin to pay for food, and I doubt it's going to be Masson. At least not for a while. Or at least not until I can get some good words with the Hinckwells."

Vindsval looks up as the new group of heroes enter the hall from the fields. He recognizes the witch who sold him the medallion. He moves over to her.

Greetings Karie, It is good to see you have returned.

"Oh, it's you, um... I don't think I caught your name last time, did I?" Karie says, trying to think back.

Vindsval grins, with all of the comings and going it is to be expected. "I am called Vindsval, among those in this hall perhaps one of the more easily misplaced names, though I would certainly hope not faces. Since we last met, I have succeeded in beginning my journey along the Witchery Way. It is rumored that you and I may be the only ones."

"And I'd prefer if we didn't have traitorous dwarves and nords. She's not the most corrupt member in here, at least as of now. She's a new recruit, meaning she's being trusted with child's-work for the moment and can't megabluck up anything major. Besides, there are much more pressing matters than her to deal with now. When she's a problem, she'll be removed. It's as simple as that,"

I push a hundred gold towards Karie.

"I have more than I'll ever be able to spend. You should have it - you have a child to raise now.

And... Masson IS an employee of the Town Watch, yeah, even if he's on leave? The Syndicate is part of the Watch, if memory serves... Wouldn't offing Patricia just make him lose his job?"

"Eubric needs some sort of watch; even the Wolfgang knows that. Patricia Coulsand though? She is not the woman to lead it."

"Well, you're going to be only one once I'm finished. Hopefully if I get on this dragon quest, I'll be closing this part of my life and Minstrelling it up in this hall! Music all the time, every time!" Karie's body and soul are clearly ready for rock and roll.

"I see."

I push a hundred gold towards Karie.

Karie pushes the money back.

"I've got enough money now. In fact, I'm rolling in money. You keep it. I'm worried about when this money runs out."

"I fail to see what the issue with her is."

Karie glares at Sorrow.

"You've seen her act as judge, jury and executioner. You've witnessed her murder my sister. She sits on her seat and keeps the poor out of view. I do not condone of the Wolfgang's actions, but I also do not condone of the Watch's action more."

"Anyone seen Darksten? I've got an offer for some of his items."

"Sure, Patricia is the one who dealt the killing blow. But I'm the one who designed a bow specifically for slaughtering werewolves, pumped her full of arrows until she was on the ground in submission. Maybe she should have gotten a trial. But you know how it would've ended.

Who do you propose takes over the watch? You have to have a solution in mind before tearing down the old order. Someone from the Syndicate? That Lillith woman, or maybe someone from Heroica?"

"There is not a soul who can stand up alone against Heroica. There's corrupt people in this organization, but there are just as many who can stand up against her if she does become a problem."

Karie glares at Sorrow.

"Couldn't have said it better. I do not condone the Wolfgang either, but you have to admit they do have a few good ideas. Most importantly bringing down that damned Hovel Wall. Patricia Coulsand is headstrong and ignorant of the problems she faces. She has done an admirable job of reforming the watch, but in no way does that make her qualified to lead it."

"She despises heroes for being above the law, yet she herself is no better. Ignorant, Headstrong..."

"They're trying to tear down the Hovels Wall because they're grooming the people in there to be their soldiers. I have no sympathy for them."

"Because the people in the walls are kept their by Coulsand and her goons. If you take a pot and try and block it up with a lid, eventually it will boil over, which is exactly what is happening with the Hovels. The Hovels are full of people who have nothing left to lose because clearly the rest of the city doesn't give a megabluck about them. The Wolfgang, however, is giving them the resources that have been kept from them for so long. Ulric claims that it's due to generosity, though it's just as likely bribery.

"I'm not trying to justify the Wolfgang, but evidently something is wrong with how this city is run. If there were no problems, we wouldn't have this vocal of a revolt going on. The houses and the watch believe that ignorance is bliss when it comes to the Wolfgang, when it clearly is not. Something needs to be done, and soon,"

Posted

"I don't fully disagree with you. I'm just saying you need to produce a solution beyond "offing Patricia", because putting the Wolfgang in charge is a death sentence to virtually everyone."

"I'm not saying that 'offing' Coulsand is the solution. I don't know who is qualified among the watch, seeing as I'm not on the best of terms with them. Nor am I saying that the Wolfgang needs to be put in charge. The pride of the houses and of the watch make them believe that everything will be alright if they force the city to remain the same as it has been, and it is evidently not working. Times change, and so do we- no, so must we."

"Maybe we should just have that Vorpal dragon fellow come over here and conquer us, maybe we'd have a leader then." I quip.

"These are pretty dismal times, you got that right..."
