Dragonfire Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 Lind looked over to the table. "Was his name Throlar? Ambassador to Eubric from Titaan?" "Is that what he calls himself now?" Avalanche nods in confirmation, then adds, "If you should happen to run into him on your travels, don't mention I said that. He'd probably put a price on my head," he chuckles. Quote

JimBee Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 "Heavens no!" Quintessa gasped. She ordered a goblet of gin from Scheherazade and took a civilized sip. "That would be unbecoming of a Queen Consort, let alone the Queen Mother! But there are other ways to defend one's honor, young woman. Growing up, We were quite popular with the noblemen, and We had to resort to unspeakable methods to keep the most enthusiastic ones away. And nowadays, someone might mistake Us for a frail old woman to be easily disgraced. Why do you think We carry this rolling pin in Our possession all the time? We do like to bake goodies, but it also has other uses." "Well then you see, you have no business being a sellsword if you have no sword to sell. Or experience. Let me tell you, lady, ruling a country is a lot different that fighting a dragon." Quintessa gave Jinnipher a subtle wink, then sipped on her drink once more. "Hmm, if you really are so uneducated about Heartland around here, We must do something about it." The Queen Mother reached into her apron's pocket again, and rummaged around. "Quite handy, having a pocket-of-holding in one's apron, We must say... Ah, here it is!" She procured a small parchment scroll and opened it for Jinnipher to see. "Behold, Our homeland!" Jinnipher pored over the map and absent-mindedly began sucking on her candy cane. "Hmm, well this doesn't look so bad. I thought Mistaria was all jungle. Although..." she tapped on the map. "Why would elves need a preserve? We're not animals." Karie returns to the Hall with a new haul of items for sale. She decides to move to the bar and places three new items up for sale, her Ethereal Cloak (SP: +2, Max Ether: +4, suitable for mages, clerics, necromancers, scholars and weather mages; back wear) for at least 190 gold and her Rusty Dagger (WP: 2, deals the poisoned by 10, breaks after 3 uses) at 25 gold. She also reluctantly puts her Paper Doll (immunity to hexed, accessory) up for sale at 20 gold. "Come get my swag while it's still here!" Jinnipher slid a pouch containing 20 gold down the bar for the Paper Doll. Quote

Flipz Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 A familiar-looking farmer--at least, familiar to a few in the Hall--enters the building and checks on his sign-ups, sighing at how few there were. "*sigh* Might as well have an ale, since I dragged m'self all the way out here..." He sits down at the bar for a drink, but just a few minutes later a pink envelope bursts into existence next to him, disgorging an inked quill that floats to the Quest board on a gust of wind and proceeds to write a note beneath the second notice in purple ink. A moment later, both envelope and quill light themselves aflame, curling quickly to ashes. "..." Old Mack Donauld stares warily at the dying flames, then gingerly pushes his untouched drink away and quickly leaves the Hall. "Frankly said, it was not Our idea to join this organization", Quintessa explained. "If We can confide in you, Jinnipher, We have an awkward habit of falling into a blind rage when aggravated. Our son decided it was best We aimed the rage towards monsters instead of lazy servants... And lousy cooks... And gossiping handmaids... And sloppy, potbellied guards... And that intolerable young gold-digger that made Jovis divorce his perfectly suitable if not a little withered first wife and marry her instead!!!" Quintessa's eyes suddenly turned white and she slammed the rolling pin hard into the counter, tipping over all the goblets and mugs on it. The saloon fell silent and everyone turned to stare at her. Scheherazade frowned, but not even she dared to say anything. Quintessa blinked, and regained her regal composure. "You must excuse Us, Jinnipher. Now what is it you wanted to ask about the elves of Mistaria? Oh, the forest elves keep the preserve themselves, we do not keep them there. Other races are forbidden to enter their woods unless invited. Many rare creature dwells there, so some foolhardy poachers try, but the survivors always run out with an arrow in their buttocks." Karie continued to tune her guitar next to the woman as she slams her rolling pin into the table violently. Karie scooted over a bit to avoid the alcohol as it trickled down the counter, picking up her playing again as the woman's composure settles in again. "So, you new around here?" Quote
Sandy Posted August 24, 2015 Author Posted August 24, 2015 "So, you new around here?" Quintessa turned to greet Karie. "Why, yes We are. Just arrived from Heartland this morning. The journey on one of the Miranda Trading Company's vessels was pleasant, thank you for asking." Quintessa was not even aware that Karie had not asked anything of the sort. "You have a lovely place here. Very... atmospheric. The gin is excellent, as well." Quintessa raised her goblet. Quote

Don't remember a whole lot though." Karie set her guitar down and poured herself some more wine. She looked around the hall at the mention of it being atmospheric. "You like it? It's a little old fashioned for my tastes, but at least it serves good liquor. My name is Karie Alderflask-Cour. And yourself?" Karie raised her glass, anticipating the queen mother to toast her. Karie raised her glass, anticipating the queen mother to toast her. "You may call Us Quintessa. No need to be formal with Us, young woman. Here, have a candy cane. But yes, this hall might use a bit of a woman's touch..." "Now wait a minute!" Scheherazade exclaimed from the other side of the counter, but Quintessa ignored her and moved towards the windows. "Yes, some velvet curtains and a few tapestries hanging on the walls would make this place feel more like home. Maybe a few suits of armor standing over there..." Quintessa tapped her lips with the rolling pin. Scheherazade looked flabbergasted and disappeared into the kitchen to let out the fumes. Quote
Kintobor Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 Karie hesitantly lowered her glass. The fact that royalty were stubborn enough not to even acknowledge her raising of her glass in good faith irked her. Sandy Posted August 26, 2015 Author Posted August 26, 2015 "What's in these things?" "Sugar and some spearmint for flavor", Quintessa mused. "Our grandchildren love them. Especially little Julien, but he got too chubby so We had to stop giving them to him." Quote

Myrddyn Posted August 28, 2015 Posted August 28, 2015 Erik Tyrvarr enters the hall after a few days away. The usual bulge of a book in his pack is absent. He crosses straight to the questboard and signs up for the Unlimited Quest: Fields of Glory. "Blasted creatures." Looking around the room, he spots Karie, and not being well acquainted with anyone else in sight, sits down near the minstrel, with a polite nod to Quintessa. Quote
Kintobor Posted August 28, 2015 Posted August 28, 2015 "Well, um... thanks." Karie replies to the queen mother before getting up. She notices Erik and waves him over down the bar. "Take a seat if you like. It's been awhile since I saw you." Quote
Myrddyn Posted August 28, 2015 Posted August 28, 2015 "Thanks. Yeah, not since the academy. I saw Noel the other day, at the lottery. All those brat kids 'ave signed up with the Wolfgang, I hear." Erik says as he takes a seat. "They're in for a shock." He mutters, but brightens up on seeing the guitar. "You're a Minstrel now, 'ey? And you got a new hat. Looks good." Quote
Kintobor Posted August 28, 2015 Posted August 28, 2015 (edited) Karie shakes her head. "Oh, please, don't remind me. If those kids want to become Ulric's cannon fodder, be my guest. I won't be the one to help to them when they're begging for safety once they realize what they've gotten themselves into." Karie takes a drink from her glass, having brought it with her when she moved. She nods and begins to grin once Erik mentions her new look. "Yes, I am, thank you! It took me long enough, but I'm finally here. Things seem to be quiet here for the time being, which is nice.... although with half the loonies around here it won't be for long..." "I see you've signed up for the Fields of Glory. I wouldn't mind heading out, but not with half the names on that list. I'd want a group I could trust. If you can get some people on a list, we can head out as a group. Get Warlen, the half-elf. He's a decent guy, and we could use some magical expertise. We could use a healer though..."
